Simple, effective, reliable TEKs. Mycology without fluff.
I created this channel to help people cultivate their own edible and medicinal mushrooms at home. In a time of increasing economic uncertainty and mental/spiritual dissonance, people are turning more towards nature for answers. I want to help people achieve that in my own little way.

Who is Sage? I’m just a guy who had his life changed by mushrooms in 2012. My life was consumed by mushrooms ever since, dedicating over a decade to its study in both the personal and academic spheres. I have witnessed first-hand how ideas I had been fervently espousing for years (thought to be crazy for most of those years) became mainstream. Now I’m gonna go sporulate a little.
Hello! I have a few questions as I am learning more about mycology. I adore Paul Stamets and his passion for this field so it encouraged me to view videos and read articles about growing medicinal mushrooms. Could I get in contact with you to ask a few questions off of RU-vid. I’m not sure if they sensor or monitor. Thank you!!
@@billgatesfauciouchie1696 am new to this but I hope this info helps. You can scrape just a tiny amount of spores directly onto your agar plate. You don't need a lot. you will have to keep an eye out for contam as the are busy doing their thing and after a week they should be well on their way. It's a good idea to sector out from the edges of the healthy stuff onto new plates to make doubly sure and once you have some happy vigorous growth on your new plates crack on with the LC from there. Ps streak test your LC as well before injecting to be doubly sure. Hope that helps. Am still learning too but enjoying the process.
Glad your back and thank you for your hard work on these videos. Quick question, you briefly touched on VPD during fruiting in one of your previous videos but did'nt get into specifics. Could you elaborate please? Thanks!!
Sorry to hear how the man is trying to hold you down bro. I found your channel while you were away and it has become my number resource as a new reseacher who prefers shoeboxes. I also love to hike and kayak so we have that in common. I thru hiked the AT sobo in 22! Hang in there and thanks for all your hard work!
Hey Micophilia, quick question. When preparing a new batch of coir, do you recommend the bucket tek and pouring boiling water over the bricks, or do you sterilize the coir in mason jars in a pressure cooker? The bucket method is less tedious so I prefer that, but does that lead to higher potential for contam than full on sterilization?
@@Mycophilia Interesting. If that is the case, then in theory, the water doesn't even need to be boiled at all. Is that correct? I also had one last question about rehydrating substrate for subsequent flushes. I heard you say in a video that the current method of rehydration is spraying down the substrate with mist, and to forget the old method of dunking in water. However when I tried this, it ends up bruising the whole surface pretty badly. I don't think it is caused by overwatering because there isn't pooling water on the surface, just small mist droplets. Any ideas why this might be happening?
@@user-rw6tm8hx4g I have heard this, and follow the practice as well, but there is a lot of conflicting info out there. Mycophilia mentioned in his response to me that coir doesn't even need to be pasteurized, so there's conflicting info in my own post!
Thanks for the truffle videos! So right now I’m harvesting my truffle jars and if I want more truffles, just mix the left over grains with coco coir like you did in this video, put it in an unmodified shoe box, close the lid and neglect for a couple months, no casing layer or misting is that right? And do I need to sterilize/pasteurize the coco coir?
@@Mycophilia you said you want to grow mushrooms with jar tek from that jars with thic mycelium and use spores to start from the begining. I am curious why you don't just make clone from them. Will they be contaminated too and only solution is to take only spores from them?
@@gfifplayer4691 ahh, yes I would not clone from contaminated batches. Spores are your best bet, just in general as they are the freshest genetics and a clean start.
