Hey Ben: Have you changed brake pads on your HD Livewire or Livewire One? I'm looking all over the internet for the correct brake pads and can't find anything. I checked the HD website and the Livewire site.
@@bullyborg943 There's a few promotional videos of some professional riders popping a wheelie. Just have to put it in track mode to disable front wheel lift mitigation
I've ridden an ebike for 2 years now and it has slowly made me extremely interested in a motorcycle, specifically an electric one. Problem is alway cost though. I initially looked at the Ryvid Anthem, and while it ticks a lot of the boxes, I'm weary of startup companies because who's to say they'll be around in 5 years? Found LiveWire and it pretty much is everything I'm looking for. Again, price is the only issue... It's August 2024 as I make this comment and I am planning on getting my motorcycle license within the next month or so and then making a serious conscious effort to go for this bike. I live alone, don't travel, my entire life is within a 20 mile radius (at max) my apartment complex and job offer free level 2 charging and I'm a minimalist with my things. If I really really needed a car for a bit I could always rent one.... Maybe I'll check back with this video in early 2025 when I have presumably the dollars for this bike, but as of right now this is my target. I've watched so many videos on this and it's exactly what I'm looking for. The ONLY thing I'm not entirely seeing reviews on is like just a bit more extended cargo. I know of their website they offer side bags and a rear rack with case, but I'm still new to all of this. Basically I'm just needing something in where I can store a few groceries from time to time, nothing major.
Hi Ben I have my Del Mar since 10 days and I was already on the Stelvio., There is the highest Charger of Europe on 2800 m. So far is everything fine, but the navigation only works when I give a destination. When I drive without destination or if the destination is already reached, the map stops. I thought you had also this problem and mentioned it in one of your videos, but I can't find it anymore. Do you have a solution? Thanks, Ralf
Hey Ralf, right now the only way to keep the map updating on the TFT is to leave the map view open on the app. The navigation uses the phone location, not the bike location, so phone has to be on and in the app to work. Hopefully this is something that gets fixed in a firmware update
As long as there are nice places to stop and charge with good views or things to do that don't cost loads of money and the cost of charging is cheaper than gas I think it's brilliant if you are just going out to have fun which is what most riders should be doing anyway, if you want a bike to commute on just get one that does the distance you need on one charge. If you want to rack up tons of miles just for bragging rights you need to take a good look at yourself and why you are riding imho. I'm not yet back on a motorcycle but looking at doing that here in the uk the roads are busy as hell and full of pot holes and roadworks so a bit off putting. I DO ride a electric mountain bike and go out for half days mostly covering about 20 to 30 miles taking in nice scenery off road, take my time and enjoy the ride and talking to people etc etc, occationally a full day out with a picnic lunch I'll cover 40 to 50 miles maybe going further afield, braggin about the distance is cool as it's the easy thing to say to imporess people quickly lol, but the real fun is just the experience of the ride and the scenery etc etc. I thought about getting a big motorbike for touring but I'm now leaning towards just an electric that I can explore the local area more with the possibilty of touring but with more stops for charging....
@@AdventuresonZero it's just for 15k bro.. that's steep and chargers are broken all over the place or just not working right half the time. That's just my reaction to the bike tho man the video was great quality, your channel has a solid focus good branding it's not my reaction to you at all bro! I do a lot of phone repair and battery replacements are a big part of that due to charge cycles hence my reaction when I looked up a lot of people's effective range
Just depends on the area. I have 4600 miles now, have not come across a public charger that is broken. Battery degradation is the nature of the beast, there a ways to reduce/mitigate it
M'mmm so I'll get one just as soon as the lottery win reaches me ! Great video mate and this probably says more about me being 65, but I had to slow the playback down to 3/4 speed to get half of what you said because you talk so fast.... you need to learn to relax a bit mate.
It's annoying when you are at a charging point an no solar panel to give some shade to you, while generating at least part of the the power used to charge for free (for them). Many times there are solar panels for regular parking slots, but not above the one that need shade because they have to be cooled. And you need to bring an axe with you when you take this kind of trips.
Too risky for S2 owners and it depends where you ride/live. There's a risk of missing the button, too much delay, or the system failing to switch modes. At least when I’m lane splitting, and a car tries to kill me, I have regen and physical brakes engaged as soon as I let go of the throttle, don’t even need to think about it. That instant deceleration might end up saving your life.
It’s just a tool - and like all tools it has a time and place to use. I’ve been using this technique for 3+ years and have found it to be effective, responsive and quite safe in most situations. To each their own
Fully agree about the battery. I'd rather run my bike into the ground having a ton of fun then constantly being on edge so it lasts a couple more years.
people like off road till it get's ya !! it's not for all i hate the streets i love the dirt not a fan of cars trying to hurt me all the time out in the dirt is my freedom !!
stay on your bike drive it over !!! walking a bike not some thing you do!! please learn the skills so you don't hurt your self and i would only ride gas off road it's lighter and 100/200 miles ev is not ready to be off road yet be safe
I have the skills, however skills won't help these tires in mud. I've learned the hard way many times what happens when you don't scout ahead, espeically in an area where no one has clearly been in a quite a while.
How is the top box holding up with the new LiveWire rear rack off road? I have the same one but my box is smaller and with other bikes it does move a lot off road, I prefer soft bags for that.
It's doing really well so far. I have the universal adapter on it, using the GIVI trekker case (silver) at the moment. I found the instructions and will figure out how to get my TRAX box installed (black one in this video). I use the hard top case and soft legend bags - great combo of versatility and security
Another great video! Glad to be a Patron as well. By the way, I haven't seen any dogs try to attack you. I had that a few times in east TN. Makes it stressful some times. I have almost 2000 miles on my bikes in the "boonies" with no problems and you are right, do it while you can! Keep it up!
I wish I could say I got better results with your custom profiles but I tried it out this week and didn't see any gains in range. Maybe others will though. I went back to what I was using before which is the same as default eco mode but with the regen at 100% instead of 80. I'm averaging between 190kms and 210kms of range estimated depending on terrain and speed of course.
The profiles are meant to curtail aggressive rider behavior, just one part of an overall technique to conserve range. But if your average is already 190-210kms, you’re already riding conservatively!
Great tips as usual Ben. You’ve inspired me to try a new setting! My go to custom is 100% everything. It’s greedy in every way but my theory is - I want it all, and I’m mostly commuting so range doesn’t matter. But today I’ll change to 0% everything and see how much difference it makes.
If you're riding in the city, 100% regen all the time is beneficial, as you are in a 'high stop' environment. If you have some open road sections and the occasional stop light, coasting is preferred to time the stop lights and maintain movement
@@AdventuresonZeroEight on the money Ben - on my commute I tried playing around with various settings and it quickly became clear that max regen made sense.
Shouldn’t need level 3 on that little island right?? I thought it was only a few miles wide. 😜 kidding. It’s still a fun bike to ride, but it’s not for everyone.
@@AdventuresonZero 7.2 DS with the chargetank currently. Chargetank helps a ton as it can full charge in about an hour, so if theres a charge station anywhere I need to go I can basically always leave with a full tank. I think an S2 bike would feel like a direct upgrade though, basically everything I love about my DS is upgraded with the s2, and I really love the low profile navigation display.
@@spartankittygames If you're on Facebook, join the S2 Riders group - there is a couple (Matt & Libby) that have the S2 and the DS - they would be a good source for you to compare.
I'm considering a zero SR but reports of motor bearings failing , belts snapping and issues with water ingress damaging charging / batteries is really scaring me off. Some sweet deals here in the UK on the SR though hence why I'm tempted. Live wire delivery mar is twice the price of the SR deals.. And even a 4 year old livewire is £4k more.
@@FlyingFun. my ‘17 DSR had bearing failure and zero told me I had to replace the entire motor. I replaced the bearing myself and immediately after my rapid charger failed before a big trip. I sold it shortly after and bought a LiveWire - haven’t looked back since
good morning Ben, a few thoughts on this week’s video 1. when going from zero regen (your custom B profile) to 100% regen (your custom A) at speed, do you have to match throttle position so as to not have regen engage abruptly? do you only switch to custom A when coasting? 2. don’t you find having throttle set on 0 your wrist is in an uncomfortably extended position when on freeway? you’re a young guy, probably doesn’t bother you. one might also save wrist by using cruise control, but I’m guessing that is highly antithetical to hypermiling. 3. still find it strange that Traction Control setting of LOW means highest implementation of TC (low slip.) do you know if this is industry standard terminology?
Good morning! 1. So there is a weird thing that all LiveWire motorcycles do when you switch profiles, there's always a jolt in acceleration (very minor). I believe this has something to do with the different acceleration resolution algorithms each profile uses. The only way around this behavior is to switch profiles while cruise control is on. I think at this point it's ingrained in me, so I don't really notice it now. There isn't a way to 'throttle match' this, but I think just expecting it to happen on profile switches is a good way to manage it. A mode is regen mode, B mode is coast mode. 2. So I do get throttle fatigue, but that's usually only when I'm riding for several days off-road, and the throttle gets manipulated a lot. I have arthritis pretty much everywhere in my body. I can see how that will get worse with time, and those 'centrum silver' riders might experience fatigue as well. I would say that you just need to experiment and find something that work for you. But I don't find 0 uncomfortable on the highway - I'm usually using cruise control anyways, so not an issue. Cruise control is actually good for range conservation, especially at higher speeds. Constant = efficient 3. YES! Only those that delve into the manual will discover that the verbage refers to slippage and not the actually setting name. Quite confusing. I have no idea if it's industry standard or not.
Hey Ben, I recently bought a 2020 livewire with 7k miles. It rides like butter and is easily my favorite bike atm. Definitely satisfied but I have two questions for you. what do you recommend for saddle accommodations? Also, I seen a few videos back you mentioned something about a noise possibly from the belt and it was actually the bearing. Did you change the bearings your self or take jet to HD? Thanks dude love your videos!
Nice! It's a fantastic bike. Do you mean seat options or storage options? If the LW1 is making some squeaking/chirping noises, it's 100% the belt/pulley tensioner - bearings are sealed. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9GpPUrucSbQ.html
one more question, Ben: I understand your theory re: regen, but why turn down throttle and power? do you not trust yourself to accelerate moderately? You’ve obviously put a lot of thought into this.
Turning down throttle and power is a way to moderate rider behavior. For efficient motor and battery consumption, you want slow, gradual acceleration to prevent power surges. Turning those down is a way to offer more control for acceleration rate
Who rides on the highway at 55mph. You’ll get murdered at that speed. They need to provide a more realistic estimate. It’s for reasons like these that turned me off. I had the Livewire for 4 days and while I loved the bike , stoping every 80 miles or so to charge turned my usual 2-3 hour weekend ride into an 8 hour charge festival. You’re right we need higher energy density and a better charging infrastructure.
I hope we see more progressive regen brake systems, way more effective than switching between modes. Like a left hand regen brake lever would allow the brake to be applied immediately without the 1-2 second delay of switching ride modes, and allow the rider to vary the braking power as needed.
So that’s just how I use it, you can keep it on regen and control the throttle to coast, it’s just a really small position. Much easier to switch and coast on curvy roads
