Wow, I thought I recognised Spitfire from the thumbnail. I have happy memories of driving her (under instruction) on the Bure Valley Railway. The RH&DR too makes for a great day out. Marvellous.❤
If this is the estate/railway once owned by Sir William McAlpine (and I think it is) there is a slight association with one of the Scout Groups in my District. I have been a Scout Leader in our district (Lambeth) for many, many years and a friend of ours - sadly passed away in 2011 - was a Scout Leader at another Scout Group. He was McAlpine's long time driver. (Chauffeur) Over the years McAlpine invited his Scout Group (1st Streatham Common), to come and ride the railway. Now I know what it looked like and the steepness of the climb! Good work guys.
No not at all. She is a Witch class locomotives built by Kerr Stuart in Stoke and worked in Stoke gas works. She now resides at the foxfield railway in Blythe bridge.
So lovely to see this evergreen attraction - 97 years old and still going strong - still attracting the crowds! Beautifully filmed, and you certainly had a lovely day for it!🙂
Hi, the track was approx 100 feet long. The individual track sections were about 10 foot long each. There was still atleast another 50 foot in the van that we didn't end up using. Hope this helps.
That was the name they gave the event, so I've just named the video in accordance with it. Besides the final train of the day had two locos on the front, one in the middle and two on the back, which is pretty rare for the rhdr
Thanks The field is on the south side of the line on the approach to Groombridge from Tunbridge Wells. There's a public footpath to get there from the road. I must say though, be careful when walking the path in winter or after it's rained, as it was Very muddy when I went.
Highlights: Parallel run with a mainline Class 171 4:41 Lineside 7:35 The Bulleid Pacific taken off the set out side of Tunbridge to take on water "Lady Ingrid" (after having brake issues) erupts into the platform with 4 coaches 10:30 BR Standard 4 thrash 19:45
I may be wrong, but I think the 3 car units lost a coach sometimes for fuel economy reasons on lightly used lines and to extend the life of old engines in the units.
Good to hear a Thumper working hard on the gradient towards Tunbridge Wells. It'll sound even better when the 3rd coach is fully restored and added to the set. Good to hear the electric motors and compressor sounds as well. Brings back good memories of Marshlink to Hastings.😊
