Hi,

I am Alan and I have over 30 years of experience of restoring chrome on classic vehicles. I have always been a massive 'petrol head' and have a passionate interest in classic cars and bikes.

A few years ago I got hooked on classic American cars when I bought a 1967 Chevrolet Impala. Since then I have imported several cars and pickups into the UK and am gradually working my way through restoring and modifying them with the help of some very talented friends.

On our channel we do two things:

1 - Videos about restoring chrome from classic, vintage and custom vehicles. This way you can see how chrome is restored.

2 - Videos about our cars, restoring them and working on them. We have a love for all things classic, custom and hot rods.

There was a great car chrome shop in Northeast Philly for many years but closed a few years ago.A coworker took some pieces for a car he was restoring. Told him it would take three months so after three months when he called them to see if they were finished owner got aggravated and told him to come by and pick them up. Shop never touched them. Shop did such great work people didn't mind waiting forever & a day.

Excellent job. On a scale of 1-10, one being the best possible candidate for replating and 10 being an absolute trainwreck, how would you rate these parts as they came in?

I worked in a zinc cyanide plating facility, we plated 1000’s of pounds of nails a year for coil or stick nailers in Rhode Island, USA. I am glad I am not in that job anymore but it is an interesting process!

The EPA has made it impossible to run a chrome business here in the states, I am sure that is true in the UK also.

Can you high build copper plate pot metal trim/emblems? I watched a different video where you couldn't get all of the pits out of the trim for it was too thin and I was wondering if you could high build them to level out the pits for a clear plating

Interesting process. Also, scary to think how much money the owner has into restoring that car given the amount of work that went into just those six parts.

Hydrogen embritlement??
@MaxGiganteum
@MaxGiganteum 4 дня назад
-- I'm hardly an expert when it comes to show chrome plating as I have only been involved with heavy industrial plating... but MHO here is that hydrogen embrittlement will not be an issue. The solution to overcoming it however is to apply a 24 hour bake in an oven at around 450° F. Granted, to ensure viability, the bake process should be done after each the copper and nickel portions of the plating process but again, I seriously doubt hydrogen embrittlement will be a problem with parts such as these. My opinion is based on my experience as well as that the base material (being pot metal) shouldn't be susceptible to hydrogen embrittlement in the first place. Anyone else feel free to toss your opinion out onto the table. Best wishes! - Max Giganteum

When it comes to chrome plating,people don’t understand what a process it is,wonder what the copper balls and nickel chips are costing you now quite expensive I bet I done this for years,you’re buffer is a good one he knows how to use the buffer not tool many people know how those pieces of metal can rap around those things quick.

Amazing job! This might be impractical but just out of curiosity I would like to know if it is possible to apply some method to fill in those pits. Something similar to using molten lead or other metal with a low melting point. I assume that non-metallic fillers won't work since they do not conduct electricity for electroplating.
@angrycatowner
@angrycatowner 10 дней назад
How can you remove a "pit" from the metal? Seems like you need to fill it in.
