Expensive pens are designed specifically for people to show off to less knowledgeable people. My new FP cost fifty bucks. It is made by a respected maker. It is a great writer. You need more fountain pen education, I am afraid. 😢 FAIL!

Pen friends, for those F and XF writers, both Mead and Oxford has apps that transfers your writing from the page to a file, in the case of Mead, it's pdf. Look for printed triangles or square markings along the margins, which allow the app to map out the writing on the page.

I recently got into fountain pens after being told I really have bad handwriting. I've won writing contests in my youth but my penmanship has always been a criticism, and I acknowledge and I admit, its something I never intended to correct. For most of my adult life I stuck in the belief of writing thoughts and unfinished work down on paper at the end of every working day. With a fountain pen, every word is written with more intent. As you said that slower pace just feels different. Its helping legibility but I'm just a few months in and I'm retraining myself to fix my cursive writing.

@2:50 a micro-camera, fitted exactly in your current pen feed, could easily capture, scan and convert what you put on your paper, directly on a pdf of any colour and page format (digital). And now with magnetic charging, I do not see any problem even charging easily this camera. Plus, I do not see any problems with the cleaning of the pen, plus after you dip it into an ink bottle. All is doable today. For me, it’s just a matter of feasibility and finances, e.g., if a company see this as a profitable scenario. I could see easily - for example - Mitsubishi, with Lamy going this direction now.

I use a fountain pen just for the feel and look. A ballpoint is useful for a quick jot but for any task that requires more than two lines of text, I’ll take a fountain pen every time.

I feel like trying to find a niche for fountain pens in the digital world defeats the purpose. The person who's most likely to buy a pen like that will probably ask themselves why they shouldn't just type their notes out in the first place. I do agree with you on more people being attracted to fountain pens because of their environmental friendliness compared to cheap ballpoints, that's one of the reasons I switched in the first place! Also, nice pen!

I recall, from decades ago, a prominent calligrapher (who cut his quills and ground his ink) explaining one of the fundamental attractions of his art: "I like it because it's wet." Along with personal expression, the allure of controlling the flow of a suitable liquid onto paper is and will continue to be a pleasing aspect of fountain pens.

I have visited your website. I have to consider the shipping cost when I order I was considering a notebook but the shipping almost doubled the cost. Clearly when I order it will have to be something to balance the shipping with the price of the merchandise. As for the future of writing with fountain pens or any style of pen, there is always a place for their use. I like to do journalling and writing the day's entry with a pen allows me to practice my handwriting as well as to get out my thoughts before they disappear into the ether 😊. Writing letters is so much more personal than sending an email or a text message. I believe the handwriting passes along your personal emotions more clearly. Using a fountain pen enhances that feeling, your personality, your emotions on a direct basis. I don't believe it to be archaic at all.

The shipping costs are why I try to get everything I may need in the same orders. I will get more of the little things like Washi tape, and I also like to get a new bottle of ink. In your case, you could buy more notebooks at the same time and give some as gifts or Christmas presents. That would be a great way to help offset the costs of shipping.

I'm sorry but as someone who has been using fountain pens daily for 20+ years which has included a huge range of fountain pens from $5-$800, this video is a lot of bad info. There are PLENTY of affordable range pens that write and feel just as great as much more expensive pens. Furthermore, gold nibs 95% of the time make little-to-no difference over a properly tuned steel nib and being gold does not make them adapt to the user, that is a completely debunked myth. The material of the nib is not even what is touching the page, the tipping material is. Gold nibs are not more sensitive to ink types or paper than steel nibs, where are you even getting your info? Also, not trying to be a total negative nancy, but Visconti has famously bad quality control, especially in regards to their nibs... something I've experienced multiple times myself.

can you suggest some pens that are as good as premium fountain pen in term of writing.
@knownaigm
@knownaigm 2 дня назад
@@rouniksahoo4970 First off, let's clarify that a good performing pen lives or dies based on how well the nib is tuned and both cheap and expensive pens can be properly or poorly tuned. For example Visconti (expensive) is known for being pretty hit or miss in terms of proper tuning out of the box but Faber Castell is known for having a pretty great hit ratio for very well tuned nibs out of the box yet those pens can be as cheap as $30. Furthermore, a cheap OR expensive pen with a poorly tuned nib can often be tuned by the user in a matter of minutes with a loupe and some maybe some micromesh. Also I don't know what exact line we're talking about here in terms of "affordable" vs "premium" as most of the brands talked about in the video are well into the $500+ range so I'm going with "affordable" being more in the $50-150 range for pens that can give comparable writing experience. Some other more affordable pens I own that perform just as well as the much more premium ($500+) pens I've owned: many models by Kaweco, Lamy, Opus 88, Sailor, Platinum, Faber-Castell, Diplomat, Esterbrook, Benu, Edison. That being said, you can also get $30 range pens that perform exceptionally well, they may just have a a worse hit/miss ratio.... but then again, Visconti doesn't have a great ratio there either. Point being, more money does not automatically equal better experience, it greatly depends brand to brand and model to model.

While I have a few expensive pens, most fit into the category of inexpensive. A pen has to feel good in the hand and writes very well on paper. It can be steel, gold, or other material nib. It also needs a good ink capacity. I usually avoid converters for that reason. I will eyedropper fill a barrel whenever I can. It also needs to be easy to maintain. Many expensive pens are not made for such maintenance, in my opinion. I have a Montblanc Edgar Alan Poe. The resin is truly mesmerizing. It can also be a distraction when I want to write. Maintenance is problematic. So, it sits on display which is a shame.

The Lamy Studio is a better pen & value over the 2000 in my opinion. Lamy is an awesome brand. I absolutely love their pens, but they don't compare to the "luxury" allure of Montblanc or the Pelikan lines. One additional German brand that I love is Waldmann. They are not as well known, but they have the amazing build quality expected from a German company. Their pens are incredible writers and are beautiful to look at/use.

After buying a bunch of 25-30$ fountain pens, I decided to splurge on a nice Pilot pen. And that's likely going to be it for my "collection", because even right now with only owning about 10 pens total - I cannot use them all enough to justify buying even more.

For a Mont-Blanc my choice is a 146. My preference for a quality writing instrument is the Pelikan M800/805. I have three with an extra nib when I feel the urge to change widths and looks. Lamy is definitely not my “cut of tea”. Ink selection is important for different writing moods.🇨🇦👍👨‍🦳

Love my M815 with a fine nib. Unlike other high end brands. Unlike other high end writing brands, It works with any ink on any paper, at worst decently at best fantastically. It is a tool of the highest quality for someone who writes professionally or extensively. You don’t get the immediate signalling value of Montblanc but people who write know and love Pelikan.

Pelikan M800 or M805 (silver-colored clip and trim parts) are just phenomenal. In my opinion, the nibs on my two Pelikans tend to write a little wider, F is leaning a little bit into M. I like it a lot. Same with the Lamy 2000, where I feel that F is rather M compared to their standard nibs on the Safari etc. I had one with a M sized nib which was almost broad.
