Jackie wanted to sound exactly like Bird, and didn't care if anyone thought he was just a copycat clone. He sounds NOTHING like Bird. Very original. Out of Bird, yet totally his own sound.

Your presentation articulated Jackie ever so well. I too am spellbound with his sound and hard bop ideas. He's got the tastiest alto I've ever heard and would rather listen to him than Bird who is phenomenal. I try to get his sound, but NO WAY. I also try to get Joe Henderson's sound, but NO WAY. They are my hero's on horns and I will always appreciated them for what they contributed to us when alive. They left a legend that will remain forever in Jazz.

This is your friendly reminder that Jesus took the bullet for you and then overcame death itself by being resurrected so that you’d believe in Him as the proven way out of this mess and “not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

My Bass player is a former professional and has been playing at a high level since he was 15. He really doesn’t know any theory, at least not in an academic way, he knows a lot that he picked up over the years. his main “tool” are his ears.

I'm a pro guitar, bass and keyboard player. They are all different instruments and it's counter productive to attempt to play guitar like a piano or vice versa. This is rubbish advice so ignore it :)

It may not be for you, to each their own. The comparison to piano is only about similar fingerings at different octaves. It's an anology and not meant to be taken literally. Thanks for checking it out, your opinion is welcome here. .

hey man i appercaite this input. A tab or music note might help , because what I am having problems with coming from piano to guitar is like you said is trying to get from C3? C4 - to C6 , shaped across, I hate being in this box. Of What you used in the first couple of minutes, of the C box on the top 2 strings E- A shapes. Especially looking at a Chord stacking like D- , D its hard to find an acutal finger pattern that make sense. I have seen countless videos on guitar - piano so just some house keeping. 1. That template for the like subrscibe you got is too big. 2. You sound like you know what you're doing I woul dtry to get guitar profile and put the tabs / notes as an overlay ! thanks again I will rewatch this again and again see If I can follow along the shapes better.

I'm with you. My best sounding amp is the Vibroverb (2-10's) and I replaced the stock speakers with ones from Carvin and it made a significant difference. I also eschew flat wounds...they sound kind of muddy and 'thunky'. I like Thomastik Be Bops. They're expensive, but they sound great. You're a terrific player.

Nice to hear Jackie Mclean getting some credit. He is definitely one of the best altoist of the post-Bird era - together with Lou Donaldson - maybe an even more underrated musician. I love the stuff he does in the movie The Connection, though it was clearly a bad time in his life on a personal level. A very lovable soul - who put his own personal stamp on bebop .

My jazz piano teacher was a sax player that learned to play the piano as an adult after lyme disease ended his sax career. During my second lesson with him, he shared a story about how early on he found himself feeling overwhelmed and frustrated trying to do all the "right" things in his practice. But then one day he was out driving somewhere and he saw some kids skateboarding, and one of the kids was trying to land a trick, but kept biting it. The kid was getting banged up, but he kept trying, and his friends were all cheering him on, and they were all having a great time. He said that at that moment, he decided he was going to approach his piano practice in the same way, and when he did that, practice became fun and everything started to click for him. When I saw the title of this video, I was intrigued because it reminded me of that, and I think it's neat that you and he both make that comparison. When he told me that story, it made a big impact on me, and I appreciate the reminder to learn more like a skateboarder!

I'm a retiree who really can't afford to go to live shows BUT as a teen I would blow my whole check on either LPs (keep backing up the needle to learn a passage) or buying concert tix- the smaller the venue the better. With a 250-seat listening room I'd shoot for the front row, even try to get backstage to chat with the act himself. I miss those days!
