That is so awesome! I have a question. Is there a company out there that refabricate parts of those Merlin and Allison engines? Or do you have to search the world for certain parts? Unfortunately here in the states they took a lot of those Motors and used them in the hydroplanes boat racing. I'm not ditching on boat racing. I just know back in the day you just couldn't go to a mechanic shop and go get a piston for a for a fighter plane.
There’s a few companies in the UK now that are specialists in Merlin and Griffon engines and the Aircraft Restoration Co at Duxford do an amazing job on airframes etc.
Spitfire Squadron Scramble! 9 Spitfires in formation at Sywell 2024. The sight of 9 Supermarine Spitfires in formation over the Northamptonshire airfield of Sywell at the Sywell 2024 Airshow was truly incredible!
The Red Bull team never disappoint at air shows and seeing both the Red Bull P-38 Lightning and Red Bull P-51 Mustang perform at Sywell 2024 was incredible!
Flying Legends - Sywell 2024 Air Show Sywell 2024 proved to be a huge hit and has been the ultimate warbird airshow in the UK for 2024! With a variety of P-51 Mustangs, Supermarine Spitfires, Hawker Hurricanes, and so many more it was a great weekend of vintage Warbird flying!
Hope it brought back some happy memories! Sywell was an amazing addition to the UK Airshow calendar this year and everyone is hoping it’ll return for 2025!
Thank you! Was great to speak with you on Saturday too and please get in touch before your Bastogne trip if you need any tips on places to visit or avoid!
@@Walking_wartime it’s a self built rig but the camera is an iPhone 15 Pro Max with an ND filter and using the Black Magic Camera app (which is free!) and a Rode Mini 2 Mic
@@Warbirdcoffeeco definitely gonna have to get one of those .and I could do with a decent mic. I heard about the black magic app but I thought you had to buy it
I wish I was there! I really love all those old war birds. My favorite fighter is the p-47. I know it wasn't the best but it could take a licking and keep on ticking! I've seen plenty of b-17s fly in my lifetime but I hope someday I get to see a lancaster. Thank you for the video Stay safe.
Thank you Mike! The Jug looked amazing, especially when it was in formation with the F-35A from RAF Lakenheath! Hopefully there will be a Sywell 2025 if you’re able to make it over the pond for it!
@@mikehall5815 their Facebook page was brilliant at providing almost daily updates so worth finding them on there if you use Facebook and following them as it’s hoped it’ll be on for next year!
The flight line walk at Sywell 2024 was outstanding. Access to the front and rear of the aircraft that would be displaying was a real bonus rarely seen at other airshows.
Heroes of the Battle. Hawker Hurricane’s AE977 from the Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar and P2902 from Fighter Aviation Engineering stand poised on the flightline Sywell 2024 ready for an action packed weekend of legendary warbird flying!
Have not watched this yet. My wife's great uncle was a tail gunner on a B17. He wouldn't talk about is experiences as a tail gunner. All I can say is thank you to all those brave men that flew and worked on those beautiful birds so we could keep our freedom!🇺🇸💪
@@Warbirdcoffeeco we are TRYING to do the homework on him. But because of old age and this humble man not saying anything about his experience in the war its been difficult. I promise you if we find out anything more I will share it. I believe all these men's stories need to be told.
What beautiful birds. I've been lucky to see a few in flight in my time. Never in formation though. Although I did see a Mustang and a F22 fly together. Thanks for sharing.
They look stunning don’t they. The USAF Heritage Flights are always a privilege to see and we were lucky enough to see it at Duxford back in 2018 when they had an F-22 with a Mustang as well! An amazing display of power!
Thank you so much! Ive just found Warbird coffee companyhoogled it, was directed back here to you tube. I come from s military family, my grandpa getting the war medal in 1916 only to be killed in his home tiwn and leaving my gran a widow with 7 children. He was on scaffolding, fell and got impaled. Dad, mum, aunts, uncles all WW11 and my brother in his 60s has been building the wings of planes at our Prestwick aerospace /spirit plant. I have a keen interestbin borh wars, having enjoyed teaching it. Ive made a good find tonight because i can buy him this coffee as a thank you for helping me go through a tough time. In Ayr, our town. There is Liberatir srive - a shopping complex but where a Liberator crashed during WW11. Loads of interesing faxts for us. Thanks for showing me which type if coffee to buy too!
Wow thanks for sharing that! I just had a whole bunch of questions answered. From Logistics on how you stack the the bombers in formation that was amazing.
Target for Today is without doubt one of the best wartime films produced! The detail and breakdowns of all the elements of a raid are an incredible source of information!
I love the P47! I know the Mustang was a better plane. But it's still badass. I also love the Hawker Hurricane. Spitfire was supposed to be a better aircraft. But that hurricane still badass!
What are perspective. It really opened my eyes to what fighter pilots saw while going into combat. How focused you have to be with your head on a swivel looking for the enemy pilots and staying in formation at the same time. I can't even imagine what it would be like in a dog fight!
It depended largely on the ability for the pilots to maintain that close formation. If one was struggling to maintain a tight formation gaps would increase making it easier, also flak knocking down aircraft making the box defence less effective and on the early B-17’s the lack of forward firing .50 Cals meant the Germans knew to attack head on as it could wreak havoc hitting the cockpit area of the Fortress.
P-47D-28 C4-N (42-28614) of the 388th Fighter Squadron of 365th Fighter Group piloted by John H. Roger collides with P-47D-4 C4-B ‘Mamie’ (42-22747) piloted by Harry S. Katoski after it’s gear collapsed on landing at Y-34 airfield at Metz on the 24 January 1945.
Lt John Clark of the 418th BS, 100th BG describes his experiences of flying through flak in a B-17 Flying Fortress in the skies above Europe during WW2.
A B-17G comes under attack from a Luftwaffe Bf-110 G-2. The attack commenced from 600 meters with the Bf-110 closing to as little as 30 meters. From the lack of return fire it can sadly be assumed the waist, tail and ball gunners have been wounded or killed. Although the fate of the B-17 is unknown it can be assumed that it didn’t make it back due to the extreme fire taken to the Numbers 1 and 2 engines.
Pink Lady in France could return to the skies but from accounts I’ve read it needs a lot of funding to do so. Luckily though the Sally B team work tirelessly to keep this incredible aircraft where she belongs! And absolutely agree about Duxford!
That will be amazing when Just Jane takes to the skies again! Another 8/9 years I believe until that point but it’s great to see the team at East Kirkby moving ahead with it!
It was incredible! And amazing to hear the Merlin and just how different it sounds from the inside compared to being stood on the ground and having it go past! Thanks for watching!
