@@karoo_bushman6880yeah, current firmware 1.08 only has pixel mode on 4x scaling. Full screen is like 4.5x or something like that, but it looks pretty good as well and nothing looks distorted.
Yes, I’ve got it to work with Pokémon blue, red, silver, crystal, Tetris and f-1 race. Even did some 4-player f-1 race and it works with the 4-player adapter.
Yeah but a micro SD slot would likely increase the cost, since that would also require some sort of OS to load it. I'm sure they can eventually add flash cart support with a firmware update. But I totally understand wanting to pass on this for now. Im definitely gonna keep using my original GBCs for now since there's so many little things different about this, but I can definitely understand others wanting this because of the features it does offer for the price.
@@doorht I don't know about this video you made though. I'd need an actual gameboy to compare clock speed side by side. Why not just don't give user option and have it properly dialed out like analogue pocket. Giving us an option to change speed makes me think they don't know how to solve this problem.
@@jackipiegg The choice for clock speed may come down more to player preference. The original GBC had a clock speed of 8MHz, and I think the maximum that the FPGA let's you set is 1.25x their own base clock speed. From what I've read, the problem FunnyPlaying is having is more of a hardware fault. It's not something that 99.9% of players would notice, or even be bothered by, but it's still something that exists. Honestly, I personally can't think of what it would really change aside from an ever so slightly faster game speed. They can probably change something in the software eventually to let you get back to the normal though, considering there's an option to speed it up. I don't own an Analog Pocket and have no interest in buying one for too many reasons, I think if I were to get an FPGA I'd get this one, but with the mods I can get for my base GBC, I've not been convinced just yet.
Depends on if there's storage on the FPGA itself. They could fake a sleep mode by dumping the RAM when the console shuts off, with the only problem I can think of being changing cartridges while sleeping. It'd be neat to have though. I'd be more likely to get one if there was a sleep mode.
@@unagibson oooh! That's honestly cool, it's one thing I wish I had for my GBC. I'll be honest, reading my own comment back I'm not too sure what I was talking about, hahaha. xD
I had the exact same issue on the firmware. I have the 1.1 version and mahko’s 1.02 firmware is less than half the file size of the google drive version on fp’s website. Thought I bricked it till I found an alternative update.bin file. It did take 3 tries to update since it didn’t fully take the update on the first two attempts but Zi did get the new fp boot screen. I’m currently playing pokemon red and don’t notice anything wrong with clock speed. I just wish they improved that dang hum noise from the speaker since it is very distracting.
So far my favorite song of 2024 is the Pokecenter theme clock-speed-staggered reprise. Beautiful! Yes I know other people have mentioned this same issue, but I'm glad people are verifying this for themselves and posting about it. I wouldn't have noticed this, but I would like FunnyPlaying to nail the issue down and get it as close as possible to the original. Thanks for bothering to check this for yourself Dan. Awesome work as always.
It's a known issue that the clock speed is slightly off at any setting. I've seen it mentioned in more than one youtube video overview. It's not really something anyone would ever notice just playing on its own so I don't think it's a giant priority to "fix". I'm guessing there's a hardware reason for it and it's not that they just don't care.
@@BastarBI think it’s got something to do with syncing to that more modern display. Gameboy natively 59.7 frames a second and I bet the new display is a little pickier about it landing on an even 60. Maybe that had something to do with the American Super Gameboy being clocked a little fast. I dunno, just a hunch.
This has to be an out of season april’s fools joke This can’t legitimately work now can it? 😭 Why am i only learning about this trick that makes total sense now and now when not only have i been modding for ages but also i have a cartridge save reader and writer
