Great work! I really enjoy all of your episodes. I’ve been learning to weld after your camper build, and I’m now doing up a camper trailer, repainting some of it, installing a water pump and associated wiring and plumbing, along with some usb chargers and a fuse block. All inspired by videos on your channel and a couple of others. Thanks for sharing and keep it up. I like a suggestion mentioned in the comments of showing some of your work on ‘fast forward’ to keep momentum. I wanted to add, if you can get companies to give you stuff for the build, why not?!
Onya mate for having a go yourself but in case no one told u it is a sacred thing that when u do a exhaust you must start it with only the headers and give it a rev just to be loud and a little bit obnoxious but just so u know for next time it must be done. Otherwise the car and 4wd gods will not be pleased 😊 enjoy it mate but careful once the bug bites u be stuffed
My Jimny is an SUV, and it's smaller than most "ordinary cars" and has a 1 litre engine, am I gonna get my tires deflated too? What a bunch of boring jobless trust fund morons.
Keep it up Steve. Love watching these vids. By the end you will be a qualified mechanic, auto electrician, metal fabricator & probably a better chippy 🤣
Learning heaps mate, thanks for documenting your journey. I really enjoy working with my hands, and solving these sorts of mechanical and electrical issues!
Hopefully the 4wd shed can find the issue, seen on Facebook all the stuff you have done so far, I wonder if the fuel pressure regulator has failed due to how bad the fuel in the tank was, maybe it’s jammed up and cannot reduce the amount to the injectors.
Good to have you following along. Yeah I’m definitely hoping phill can at least point me in the right direction of what’s wrong. Hopefully find out sometime this week. ( should be filming an episode with them )
So many people don't know how to do the simplest job on a vehicle. Your videos bring back the basic skills of car maintenance. Keep going with these videos Steve and keep doing what you need to do to get the job done. Sometimes you don't know if people are willing to help, donate parts unless you ask. Will keep watching mate.
Thanks for the support mate. I really do appreciate it Encouragement is my main goal here. Doesn’t need to be with cars specifically. It’s just stuff in general. I know ppl that don’t even know how to mow their own lawn 😬😬. I genuinely feel like as a society we are going backwards in some ways haha
Great video mate ! Working on your own 4WD is the best night time therapy. I do 99% of my own work on mine as I don’t believe shops have the same OCD I do. 😅
It has proven to be good therapy for me actually which has been nice. And I agree it’s hard to find a shop that really cares. They are out there but few and far between
Thanks mate. I did change the filter a few weeks back but not since changing the tank. I have a new one waiting to go in. And no I didn’t flush the fuel lines either. I don’t really know how 😬😬. Looking at the fuel in the rail it was all clean so I’m guessing the filter was doing its job
Hey Steve, would love to hear about the exaust sound in terms of the drone. I've been eyeing off DEA exhausts due to their value but have always been put off by the terrible reviews and lack of info on liveability in terms of the drone. Cheers
Hey Steve, You gave me the insperation to build my own version of a draw system for my dual cab ute single draw on teflon with a fridge slide and slide draw same as what you had done
I do as much as I can on my Gq. Alot better to spend money on tools to do the job yourself and learn than always giving to a tradesman. But then if its something I can't get my head around I'll gladly pay an expert. Great vid as always.
The next episode is going to be pretty much exactly about that. Sometimes you do need to realize you are in over your head and it is best to send it to someone who knows what they are doing. There are some things that are still best left to the professionals haha
Firstly good on you for having a crack, its how you get experience by doing it definitely keep going 👍 just a suggestion....given the condition of the fuel in the original tank id be new fuel filter (even if youve replaced but run it with the old fuel) , getting the injectors cleaned properly and a valve clearance check wouldnt hurt.
Thanks mate. I do plan on replacing the fuel filter again now it’s done. I’ve already checked valve clearances and they are okay and I’ve had the injectors cleaned
Cut the old mount off the old exhaust and take it somewhere to be welded on to the new exhaust. Also mate, do yourself a favour, get some big sheets of cardboard to lay on instead of the cold concrete. Seeya Rob.................and yes I know you have a creeper haha.
We've definitely lost many of the basic skills of car ownership maintenance. I feel this is partly due to the ever-increasing reliability of cars, and also the types of day jobs most of us now have. Car manuals in the 1960s told you how to adjust valve clearances, now they tell you not to drink the battery fluid. 😁
😂. So very true. And to be honest if something came up on Betty ( my y62 ) I would probably still send it to a shop as the technology in the car requires a whole new group of tools to work on them
As for requesting tips for improving your episodes. Include B-roll footage when describing parts/items on the build. So instead of a shot of you talking about it, why not show b-roll footage with your audio instead? Visually it will be more appealing. Plus, have you dabbled in "accelerated montage"? A process of increasing the speed, in order to transmit the idea of excitement and rhythm. Particularly effective for parts that are repetitive? Like unscrewing and screwing nuts & bolts. That way, it still shows the work but keeps the momentum going. Loving the channel.
Watching these 80 vids really makes me want to own another one 😉 good to see ya having a crack and showing people if you have a little bit of grey matter between the ears you can actually save yaself some $$$$$
I agree with you Steve. I too prefer the quad rectangular headlights on the 80 Series, though not sure if I would have gone and replaced them if I already had the Sahara lights - especially if on a tight budget. Appreciate the honesty and rawness of your build. I noticed you still haven't resolved your idling issues. Have you check for air leaks in the intake hose past the MAF sensor? This is what caused my idling issue when I experienced it recently.
If I had to pay for them I wouldn’t of got them this early on. As I said in the vid. JTX were kind enough to donate them to me. I’ve checked everything for air leaks 3 times now haha but I just can’t find any. It’s currently down at the 4wd shed gettting looked at
@australian4x4adventures Did you change the fuel filter aswell when you changed the tank... i recently changed my 105 1fz filter and it fixed my idle issue
@jjimmies I had changed it a few weeks ago but not since changing the tank. I do have another spare one sitting there that I will prob put in now the tanks done
Luckily it’s an easy job to change the manifold gaskets if these ones don’t hold up. I don’t know enough to know that I needed a factory gasket over an aftermarket haha
An all in one unit would be great but the cost is astronomical. I think I'll stick to DIY. Current example being 314AH Eve automotive grade cells, 2000w inverter, 250ah Muller Energy BMS, Victron 20amp mppt, Victron 30A 240v charger + sundries comes to approx $1900 and results in more than twice the capacity and cycle life. I do appreciate the review Steve but in my opinon these types of units are only good for those who have the cash to blow or not competent with the DIY approach which isn't my case. Cheers. ps: You still get a thumbs up
After watching a slew of YT videos, I went with the Inspired Overland RTT to put on my 2024 Subaru Forester Wilderness. The latest 2.0 version weighs in at just under 80 lbs and is under 5 inches thick when closed.. I paid under $1k for it then got a sweet deal on the shipping.
Powerbanks are great for portability and ease of use. On the down side is cost and half a grand optional extra for a DCDC charger. DIY setup is hands down cheaper excluding the time involved to setup which may be a negative for some. An absolutely negaitve of DIY is the installation cost if you're unable to do it yourself due to the exorbitant cost of labour for an auto elect. Don't hate me Steve but there is at least one 200ah battery which cost only only 30% more than a 100ah iTechworld battery from a reputable Australian manufacturer (in anticipation of the components, I realise that the cells are manufacturerd in China). I'd happily own a powerbank but the cost is more than the effort which I require to build my own setup. Thanks for sharing. Cheers
@@Australian4x4Adventures They absolutely do which is why I included positives but feel that it's important to be transparent for those who are willing to build their own system.. Cheers
i run the bluetti ac200 max in my new raptor , when its not being used in the car i use it at home to power things like the air fryer , coffee machine, ect helps knock down the power bill , at home i charge the system with 3 x 475 solar panels , and in the car i fitted a victron orion 12/24 15A charger , i also use the bluetti for my old skool muscle car when i do events
