A cracking episode Steve. Typical VHC trip. Lots of 4WDing variety. Such a great place to go offroad. But jeez, that's the most I've seen Billy Goat's Bluff, cut-up like that. The relentless rain has really done a number on it. I hope it gets some track maintenance soon.

Hi Steve, I have purchased a full coil delete airbag kit with the automatic ride levelling system for my 23 y62, which I'm fitting myself. I have poured over all your episodes regarding your experiences with your airbag system and the challenges you have had. Your info has been invaluable for me to fit my system and get it right the first time if possible ;). Can you tell me where your air reservoir tank is mounted? there are a few spots it can go and want to make the best choice. Any tips you could share would be greatly appreciated. Your channel has great content and look forward to new episodes.

Looks like a fun trip. Glad to see unichip diagnosis. I guess why it stopped the car operating was due to the inbuilt safety mechanisms… interesting that the factory ECU didn’t do that?

I have a question. If u removed the unichip, and the car ran fine, i assume the compressor was still coming on and off for the airbags the remainder of the trip. How come the heat didnt stop the car again after the unichip was removed, if it was a fault with the factory ecu getting to hot?

@Australian4x4Adventures
@Australian4x4Adventures Год назад
It just overheated which caused an error code which the Unichip picked up and shut the car down. Because the factory ECU was so far out of whack the Unichip just decided to turn the car off to protect it. One the Unichip was off the car started but was rough and rang super Rich on fuel for the rest of the time until I got it fixed.

remove a unit and car is drivable again, but you conclude that the item you removed had absolutly nothing to do with the car not being drivable - unbelieveable, you absolute champion of the sponsor dollars Now, whilst the item removed may not have been the root cause of failure - only dumb and dumber (or one corrupted by sponsor money) who conclude that when an item is removed and the problem goes away that the item removed has absolutly nothing to do with the anything
@pauljbusby

So you have never been in Sand then. Otherwise you would know just how hot an Air Compressor can get, and thus the location needs many considerations. One of which you are yet to experience is the DC load on the Alternator. Ive been doing this shit for 40 years now. Now consider just how much heat those diode packs in the Alternator are. The only reason you haven't already melted it, is because of the Electronics controlling it. But you are now running that Alternator beyond what the manufacturer has considered. So I guess the Saga will continue
@Gerardus1970
@Gerardus1970 Год назад
If you think you need a Unichip or any other kind of chip you have bought the wrong vehicle. Chipping *always* comes as a cost to something, be it reliability, emission compliance or longevity. You can also kiss your drive line warranty goodbye and if you think the chip manufacturer will cover it, good luck with that. Throw that shit in the bin where it belongs.
@oldbloke204

So the moral of the story is that being scared of spiders is rather silly and fcking around with your vehicle will likely bite you at some point? Cool. My missus, daughters and myself like spiders and have no issue dealing with them and my standard, mostly, vehicle is reliable. Life is good.
@overlandready
@overlandready Год назад
This is why I like doing R&D. you get to find what doesn't work, then find out why. to be honest, it should be a no brainer with an air compressor that it gets hot and needs serious ventilation. Also worth considering an air tank for running bags as it will charge less times, maybe for longer, but if cooled properly it'll make the compressor last longer. Most compressors don't give a true use figures, like some of the Viair compressors give a 100psi figure of 100% duty cycle, when the compressor is capable of twice that. but doesn't give a 150 or 200psi duty cycle. The 150 psi duty cycle is the handy one as most tanks run 150psi.

@Australian4x4Adventures
@Australian4x4Adventures Год назад
The Unichip has separate safety built into the unit with some tighter perimeters to the factory ECU. So the factory ECU through some codes that the Unichip didn’t know how to handle so to be safe it shut the car down. It was a safty feature of the unit.
