Thanks for the good velcro tip to avoid the rattling! I also added some self adhesive felt pads at strategic places inside the awning, to avoid the rattling of the legs against the awning case..
Saw it from California Mohave desert while waiting for my creator. Stark as naked running through the desert at night. Thought they were finally coming to pick me up. HAF
what is the view out the window like when sitting at the dinette? seems you would be eye level with the topper seam. never seen any youtuber sit in a FWC dinette and show what the view is like.
Thank for a great vid of your amazing rig!! Please, some questions: -Do you ever wish you had gone with an F350? -Did you consider putting your spare in the garage maybe above or beside your fuel tank?
Thanks! It's been a lot of fun. Occasionally I wonder if I should have done a 1-ton but so far the setup has been great. I'm OK with the spare underneath. I blew a tire in KOFA in January and it wasn't too bad to pull out from under the truck. I don't think I could get it in over the fuel tank and then I would have that weight much higher on the rig.
Thanks for sharing. Planning a trip to the North Rim very soon and glad to see your video on Jumpup Point. Been looking at trails and Jumpup Point looks great for the view and camping. Taking a 4Runner. God Bless and Stay Safe.
@@uncledougiecampboss8382 We will be there in May - like by next week - God Willing. Again, thank you for sharing. Enjoyed your video. Plus, it was very helpful. God Bless and Stay Safe.
Nice video, we will have to check it out next time in AZ. We also have a F250 Super cab. I do not think I noticed any rocksliders on your rig. If you have some or have thought about getting a pair do you know any company that makes them for the Super cab? So far are we only found them made for the Crew cab.
Thanks! And YES I do need to get rock sliders. It’s on the top of my list. Having same issue finding pre-fab for SuperCab length. I’m going to call White Knuckle Off Road in Apple Valley, CA. I have a buddy that made some for his IH Scout BUT I’m not sure of his quality control.
@@uncledougiecampboss8382 Thanks for the response. I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with. We also will keep you posted if we find someone that makes them as well.
Great video! Bucket list location and headed to the North Rim in July in my current rig, not sure I willing to risk it in that. Love your set up. I have a 2024 3/4 Chevy LTZ and can't decide to go with the Slide in or Flatbed. You may have pushed me over the top on the FB. Keep it up.
Nice nice rig...and as such, I'm pretty sure you have tire plugs for tire punctures but I thought I share something I found out a few months ago re: sidewall punctures. I always thought if you had a sidewall puncture, game over. However, there is a company that does have a product that can repair side wall damage (temporarily) so that it can get you out of bind. The company is called GlueTread and it looks impressive. Anyways, thought I share.
That is the perfect set up - I have a Black Series trailer, which I love, as I can "leave camp" and drive around, but this is a super nice truck set up.
I loved the GMRS radio placement! Nice job! I’d end up with an HF radio just below that and a VHF/UHF radio above both!(or a 991A Al mode all band from Yeasu) Cool idea! Love it.
Just found your channel... cool stuff. I'm considering a full size rig with a Hawk camper as well. I want to do a lot more overlanding, especially when I retire in a few years. It's a lot of money to invest in a rig, when you consider the truck, the flatbed and the camper. I'm wondering if you ever feel limited with it? Or does it ever feel top-heavy? TIA for any insight you can provide.
Thanks for the message. It was "a lot" of money but I am enjoying it so much, All in (pre inflation) i was just under $125K to build the whole thing. I sold my house for a HUGE profit which allowed me do do it. Also I wasn't planning on a new truck but during C-19 used trucks were insane. I never feel top heavy. Only once did I freak out and thats when I hit 18-dgrees of camber.
So all that money and you put a leveling kit, typical American overlander. Not proper suspension to handle rebound and compression so maybe invest in an actual suspension system
Do you wish you had went with the diesel over the big gas engine? Or a 350 over the 250? I’m about to factory order a truck and I’m really on the fence about both questions.
Just found your channel and love the build!! Been enjoying catching up on the videos. I thought the F250's all had 10k GVWR, were you able to order it with a higher GVWR package? I saw in one of your earlier comments you were approx. 600#s under at 10.4K, it sounds like your GVWR is 11K? I've been looking at F350s for a slide in camper, but there are a lot more f250s out there and if their available with a higher GVWR it would possibly open more options. Keep up the awesome channel! @@uncledougiecampboss8382
@@blake6426I believe you can get the 11,400 lb payload package on this particular model of superduty - gas engine, ex cab, etc. It really depends on many things when determining what the high payload package number is. Snow plow\camper prep packages usually get you higher GVWR along with what cab, 2 or 4 wd, single or dual rear axle, gas or diesel(heavier), trim level, etc, etc. Iirc, the crew cab maxes out GVWR at 11k, and regular cab, dually 2wd obviously would get you the highest possible GVWR. Check on Ford's site to see what each models can get what ratings. Google - '24 Ford superduty GVWR chart to see that.👍🏻👌🏻🛠️🚜🚚 ✊🏻🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸✊🏻
@@uncledougiecampboss8382 very cool. Do you feel like you need to about balancing the weight forward and s aft since the truck has been extended from stock?
No. All of the camper items that are heavy (water tank, batteries, water heater) sit in front of the axel. Everything in the camper behind the door is pretty light.
Nice review. I guess if it pvc you could ad a few lightweight d rings so a seat could be used. Wish it already came with a few more and is the skeg interchangeable so you get a shallow water fin for river or creeks?
So I'll break that into (2) types of "windy conditions" Windy While Top is Up - I've been in maybe 45-50 mph gust and it really didn't affect me or my experience. When I know it's going to be a windy night, I'll position the camper so the nose or tail of the vehicle is into the wind. Windy While Driving - I've been in a few AZ Summer Monsoons with gusts over 50 and I do get moved around the road but nothing serious.
@@uncledougiecampboss8382 Brilliant. Thanks for speaking to both the on-road manners and the camping experience. It’s a huge help in making my decision.
Thanks for watching. The Redarc was installed with an additional outlet. It is the one nearest the batteries and fuse cabinet. That is the one thing I would like to change on the future as the 110 outlet installed by FWC and located on the passenger dinette seat is only hot when plugged into shore power.
Oh wow! Stay warm. I was out at KOFA last week and I think it got down to 35. But for us "thin-skinned" Arizonans that seemed chilly. Thanks for watching!
I'm currently contemplating selling my house in Tennessee, and buying a Silverado 2500 ZR2, flat bed and Hawk flat bed camper and working from the road. Just hard to make the leap
I hear yeah. That is the route I’m moving toward. I bought my truck from selling my house at a market high here in AZ. Not full-time yet, most likely about 7-10 years more work. Currently in an apartment and going out 1 or 2 times per month.
Regarding your side step, you could possibly attach a U bracket or channel that is bolted to the camper that way you just slip your step over the top and WaLa
