Great information, and a complete walkthrough. Thanks 💪🏼🥏 I don’t plan on dying my discs, but i now have the knowledge to do it. Those looked really good and you explained the process very well. 🤙🏼
Cool. As a vinyl sticker guy with 30 yrs experience, i recommend investing in a bondo squeegee on the cheap. Credit card works betterer than your fingernail or a spoon. Also work air out from the center outwards, not one side to the other when applying a decal. I'd also probably have it cut with a circle to aid in alignment. This can be done by laying the disc onto the decal, just getting the decal to tack onto the disc. Then carefully flip and squeegee the sticker down. Makes for easier aligning and isnt going to cost much more since you're paying per sq inch. But great creativity!
Let's say I have a dark, forest green disc and I want to die a graphic onto it using the Chartreuse color. Will it actually change the color from dark to vibrant Chartreuse?
The best dye tutorial I've seen yet. Awesome job. Just a quick question: if you have troubles with clumping, have you ever tried the top to a salt or pepper shaker to break it up? I mean you put the powder on like seasoning anyways 😂
Thanks for this video. I was working on trying to learn my Cricut, and got to give my husband a new fun disc in the process. This surely won't be the last time I do this! I appreciate your clear instructions.
Thank you for giving clear explanation in this video, it was extremely helpful! I just tried the stencil dye on a practice disc with just the black colored dye only (no other colors mixed in) and the dye took but it was extremely light. I let it sit for about 2 hours. What have you found to help get the colors to be darker or dye better on the disc? I was planning on trying waiting longer, adding more black colored dye to the mix, or heating it like you said. There is a color intensifier that comes with the dye, do you use these packets as well?
Which dye/brand did you use? I use idye poly (same from this video) and it works perfect. I've tried other dyes and they came out very light at best. I always let the discs sit for 6-8 hours as well. Hope this helps!
@@ianandrew3973 I use idye poly as well but didn’t let it sit 6-8 hours. I just tried my second attempt with more dye and will let it go 8 hours, hopefully it comes out darker this time (and I did it on a lighter colored disc this time)
This was awesome, thanks so much for the in depth tutorial! 2 questions, first is do you sell discs? Second, where do you get the vinyl sticker cutout?
Thank you so much this was such an educational video. I love how you really took your time in this video and explained a lot of things in depth so we understood why better! I watched this after already doing my first set of dyes im bout to take them out in a few hours, this will be my next method to try no doubt
It drives me nuts when there is an awesome stamp, and they have awesome foil colors, and awesome disc colors... but they don't pair them well. Learn some color theory people!
It depends on the type of dye you use and the type of plastic your disc is! I had the same issue when I started. If you Google 'disc dyeing wiki' you'll find a super helpful page from reddit with basically everything you need to know about dyes and plastics!
I assume there are other options but people who don't want buy paper plates all the time... I picked up some stainless steel electric stove covers. The small size is useless but the big one work well for dying and you can just wash it off.
