That may be one of the most thorough explanations about dying I've seen yet. Thank you so much for going through all the work it took to put this out. Really enjoyed it.....clearly....I just sat here mesmerized through a 40 minute clip.
no name You covered so many things as well as multiple disc projects, I think you explained a lot in the time you had from good things to disappointments. Anyone who's serious about learning this will take the time to watch. Excellent video in my opinion.
Thanks for this video. I was working on trying to learn my Cricut, and got to give my husband a new fun disc in the process. This surely won't be the last time I do this! I appreciate your clear instructions.
Mad skillz sir! I just started experimenting with different techniques for dying discs a few months ago. This is the best how to video I've seen on how to dye discs. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much this was such an educational video. I love how you really took your time in this video and explained a lot of things in depth so we understood why better! I watched this after already doing my first set of dyes im bout to take them out in a few hours, this will be my next method to try no doubt
I used to lay vinyl stickers for a living. Using a credit card to lay your decal helps you not have bubbles. If you do have a bubble poke it with exacto and press the air out with the card
Amazing tutorial! I've watch it through three times now. Lit a fire under me to finally try dyeing myself, even made a little video of my effortss too. Credited your teachings and linked to your video here, thanks again!
Thank you so much I’ll be trying out my first dyes soon using the method with the pilot. Once you waited the hour or longer how did you get the paint off just rinsing with water?
Such an explanation of the process and very easy to listen too. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. I also have a massive craving for chicken wings from that parchment paper box after staring at it for so long.
Awesome video. Thanks for the information. I wonder is wall or exterior adhesive vinyl would be better for preventing bleeding. My wife and I have a shirt business side hustle and have the stuff on hand. I might have to try it out. Thank you for the great video.
Love your designs! What type of vinyl do you use? I have a Cricut and was curious if the Cricut brand vinyl is good enough for it or do you use Oracal651?
Fantastic video, thank you so much for sharing! Is there a reason you use the contact paper rather than just using a bigger piece of vinyl that goes all the way to the edge?
The best dye tutorial I've seen yet. Awesome job. Just a quick question: if you have troubles with clumping, have you ever tried the top to a salt or pepper shaker to break it up? I mean you put the powder on like seasoning anyways 😂
I assume there are other options but people who don't want buy paper plates all the time... I picked up some stainless steel electric stove covers. The small size is useless but the big one work well for dying and you can just wash it off.
Where do you buy your material? The Idye i have figured out but where do you get the stickers and the plastic film from? I know you do your own stickers but you have to buy the stickers material and then you cut it on your own, so what is that sticker material?
Thank you for giving clear explanation in this video, it was extremely helpful! I just tried the stencil dye on a practice disc with just the black colored dye only (no other colors mixed in) and the dye took but it was extremely light. I let it sit for about 2 hours. What have you found to help get the colors to be darker or dye better on the disc? I was planning on trying waiting longer, adding more black colored dye to the mix, or heating it like you said. There is a color intensifier that comes with the dye, do you use these packets as well?
Which dye/brand did you use? I use idye poly (same from this video) and it works perfect. I've tried other dyes and they came out very light at best. I always let the discs sit for 6-8 hours as well. Hope this helps!
@@ianandrew3973 I use idye poly as well but didn’t let it sit 6-8 hours. I just tried my second attempt with more dye and will let it go 8 hours, hopefully it comes out darker this time (and I did it on a lighter colored disc this time)
Do you have a video for the vinyl part of this? I want use my own original art and fan art, so if I could find out how to make the stickers then that would be so amazing!
If you want to do it by hand, you can buy Vinyl sheets, then you need a light box( or similar. I had a glass table I put a lamp under it), cut out the image with a xacto knife, use transfer tape (or masking tape to hold the image together), peel the sticky side and put on the disc. Here's a video someone else made... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LUB0Rrqx_2A.html Your other option to find someone or pay someone with a vinyl plotter (sign shop usually have that stuff, i've seen people in disc golf forums offer service as well) that can digital transfer and cut out images.
26:30 Sorry, but this is really funny as I had a similar problem frosting a cake until I found the *offset spatula,* an invaluable tool that does minutes of work in seconds...
I know I’m super late to this video but I would love to know where you get those vinyl sticker stencil thingys. I would love to do my own stencil dyes but I don’t know where to get the stencils
yeah man really good video. one critique though, it would help your dude if you put a list of supplies in the description. should do more though dude...I think you just hit the tip of the ice burg. what would you say the best vinyl for this is though? I want to do something with great detail...kind of don't want to give the idea away. yet it's just so cool. I'm gonna do hail oderus...prob on a dd2, boss or katana. I was thinking like a purple die on top of the clear pink blizzard. most yall dude's prob aint into gwar any ways lol. p.s. I get power throwers turn em over but if you got that perfect form flick like your dude does...blizzard really launches. yeah meant more for old people and kids...but 140 or lower this thing even floats and not just across the field. that's the secret though the lower weight. if your having problem with distance...but got form down. id give it a try.
really though I've seen vibram about the same weight too. so just lower weights in general. yet cant get a katana or boss in vibram. cool discs though.
also you know its good to have variety for them noobs reading thinking they should fill out the bag. I'm rocking star, champion, blizzard...got drivers, multi purpose, putters. even had a fairway...du know what happened maybe lost or givin away. I always play from best of 2 any way, so id do a light one and a heavy one. sometimes you need something to cut through the wind, sometimes you want to be carried by it. shhhiiiiiiiii I use a rock for trick shots and putting...distance drivers too, but aren't we all putting from the T. lol
This was awesome, thanks so much for the in depth tutorial! 2 questions, first is do you sell discs? Second, where do you get the vinyl sticker cutout?
How would I go about getting the sticker made? I would like to use my own logo that I have but I am not artistic in any way really so I don't really know how to go about it
Richard Clarke I made them on a Cricket. That's would be a whole other video to explain how to use a cricket. There are plenty out there to watch honestly.
Some manufactures sell blanks. Otherwise you need wipe the stamp with Acetone. Though the impression from the hot stamp will always be ghosted on the discs.
I’m really late to this video but what should I do if I don’t have a place to make vinyl stickers. Should I just use normal paper and somehow stick it on there?
i have a question... i have a black pro disc already took the logo off. am i able to put just shaving cream on my black disc and the pigment white of the cream stay on the disc? thank you!
Let's say I have a dark, forest green disc and I want to die a graphic onto it using the Chartreuse color. Will it actually change the color from dark to vibrant Chartreuse?
It depends on the type of dye you use and the type of plastic your disc is! I had the same issue when I started. If you Google 'disc dyeing wiki' you'll find a super helpful page from reddit with basically everything you need to know about dyes and plastics!
Britt Markum so first I would try a bleach foaming spray, if that doesn't work try vinegar and baking soda, and the cure-all is to actually scrub it with 100% acetone and baking soda. That will dang near clean anything
