In the pilot episodes of BSG 1978, the Cylon centurions looked pretty scary and evil. However, a few things should have been taken into account to make them look more authentic: 1. robots of the same type have the same body size. 2. combat robots march in step and synchronised, and don't stroll with their legs apart like cowboys entering a saloon. Nor do they move as clumsily as knights in full armour or people waddling around in bathing sandals. 3. combat robots don't wobble and nod their heads like Statler and Waldorf from the Muppet Show when they talk to each other. All this could easily have been done with the means of 1978 (see Star Wars, The Black Hole, etc.). Unfortunately, as the original series progressed, the Cylons, which were still quite terrifying at the beginning, became increasingly ridiculous and implausible.
I recall seeing the Cylons for the first time in 1978 when I was ten. Up to that point in my young life, they had to be the coolest looking robotic creatures I had ever seen..........then they started speaking 😲
Damn. Flashbacks! Yesss. Just ordered a roland vt4 just for this!! Had forgotten the awesome cylons. From kid to bow 52 i still get that cylon stokeness! Thanks for this!
There’s a dude on RU-vid that tries to replicate the voice from back in the day. Omg super complex!! You can’t even get the equipment nowadays. It’s an Uber sexy voice regardless of the times.
1978, original Battlestar Galactica, great storyline, even a bit deep, with a dark edge. 1979, Buck Rogers, light chauvinistic fun, super sexy babes and episodes titled "Planet of the Slave Girls". As a little kid I could never decide which one I loved more.
