If you read Ray's book X-Ray he talks about who Julie Finkle really is at the end. She is not a real person she is a part of Ray's mind. She represents his "audience of one" who motivates him to keep writing his songs and also possibly his feminine side and inner spirit. So all the people claiming to be her in this comment section don't know what they're talking about. This song is not about you. Unless you are Ray Davies.
Chrissy Hynde and the Pretenders had a hit with this cover of Ray Davies in 1982, but Ray wrote this song in 1965 for Peggy Lee. There is a demo-version of Ray singing this song from that time as well.
Why no video of my band. 😢😢😢 300k is a lot and you all know the bigger the crowd - Ray turns it into an intimate “frat party” where if they could - people would swing from the chandlers - Ray had this talent of making huge spaces - his own - and you were there. Also, at this point in 1982 - Ray/Dave been performing on international live TV for 15 years - his moves, unique and choreographed and his VOICE - 😊and they’re playing was great. impressive. Dave also. He was SIXTEEN performing - you really got me - behind his big brother. Party. That’s the kinks - they would positively rip Philadelphia apart when they performed there. That’s where I witnessed the “frat party” atmosphere
The Stones had set the mark for the Second Waves comebacks with "Tattoo You" and the Davies boys thought they could do better. They slam dunked it with this album. It was considered more cool than the Stones and slightly punk. Great days of early 80's.
