I’m so glad this interview exists. This interviewer is so good, and I feel like I’ve gained a greater respect for Sebastian as a person with a European history, rather than just the respect I had for him previously as an actor.
I CAN feel he struggles to speak romanian, like a normal regular speaker. He can but it looks like that. It happens when you are raised in a second language environment for such a very long time for the most part of your life.
I remember when my parents moved from the former Communist East Germany to the West with me, I was 11 years old. I can relate to the crying, being scared, and just a whole different experience living there. They did not make it easy for us.
I'm a French person and a lot of people around the world say that they love french bc it can sounds like a song/melody when we talk and that it is a beautiful language. But here in the interview, Romanian sounds like a real melody to me it is really beautiful to hear.
on youtube you will find reactions to " mandalorian seson two finale " and a lot of ppl, was asking who is Luke, it is Sebastian Stan? please be Sebastian Stan ! congrats man when ppl ask you for this role you realy are someone.
Yes, I'm here for Sebastian Stan (because uff), but also, as an armchair linguist. Romanian is such a fascinating language with an even more fascinating history. While the Romanian people aren't directly descended from the Romans, their language is a testament to Roman presence in the region, when they colonized the region of Dacia in what's now Romania. As such, the Romanian language retains distinctly Latin grammar and sentence structure. When spoken, it sounds like a Slav attempting to speak Latin. Very cool. Thank you for posting this interview!
Stan is my age and I left Romania when I was 8 too (to Germany). What is remarkle about Stan is that he doesn't have an accent in English. Usually it's imprinted already in your vocal cords when you're 8 and it's almost impossible to get rid of. The inner dialogue language remains in your mother tongue too btw.
I'm Romanian. He speaks better than many others here. The fact that he said that his unfulfilled dream is that he wishes to speak Romanian again as before, or that he said he'd wish to go to Constanta the next day if he could (that's his hometown and it's by the seaside for those who were wondering about "the beach" dream) melted my heart. Such a humble man who respects where he was born even though he had to move away for a better life
Thx :)) Just like Portuguese, Romanian can be very elegant if spoken by an eloquent person, but it can also be very vulgar. It depends on who speaks and on the situation.
baiatul asta a plecat din Romania la 8 ani si vorbeste romana aproape perfect, altii parasesc comuna la maturitate, vin in tara dupa 1-2 ani si....."quel calut mititel"...

Great job translating the interview. I'm Romanian American and trying to remember more of my native language to teach my granddaughter; I didn't teach my kids, unfortunately.
@@ilie123petcan9 I don't understand this statement "teach children your native language". I was speaking Romanian to my daughter as soon she was born. We only speak Romanian at home. I do speak English with her only when is Homework's time. Romanian was her main language until she went to Nursery and learned British English. Now she is bilingual and I am so content with myself because I took the decision to communicate in Romanian with her.
