I'm an avid Virginia angler who loves to target Bass, Striper, Crappie, and Snakehead on our local lakes and Rivers. I enjoy fishing from my boat, kayak, and even the shore. My #1 goal for this channel is to teach others how to become better anglers and continue to learn and grow everyday on the water.
I love teaching anglers how to better read and interpret their fishfinders, from the Garmin Striker 4 on up to the Garmin Echomap Ultra 106. You will find many videos featuring how to use these great fishfinders to their fullest potential.
On this channel you will find a variety of content from fishing, to sonar interpretation, tips and tricks, and even maintenance on my Evinrude ETEC outboard. I hope this channel has a little something for everyone who watches, and we all continue to learn and grow together.

Stupid comment, but I cannot find the hose anymore (discontinued) for a 2008 250 etec. Crowley marine cant get it either. Is there a generic hose I can use and cut to fit? I know some hoses are for fuel, some for other purposes. I need 25" for my motor. Thanks.
Any frequency should work fine, you just want a color that shows good contrast between hard or soft returns, and possibly put the depth in manual and increase it so you can see any 2nd or 3rd bottom echo returns.
@@1Cast1Fish fantastic on point response thank you. What colour pallet would you recommend to achieve optimal contrast? Do rocks, shells, gravel bottom all have same density colour indications?
Can you tell me how to turn the volume up on the Garmin striker 4? It says to hit settings my device, but I don’t see my device anywhere. Can you help me? Thanks.
I bought the same nocqua kit but the 4.4 ah… planning on using it for a garmin striker 4 vivid cv. Will that last me a full day of fishing? Reviews were mixed but most said the 4.4 ah was more than enough
If the shad is already behind you when you see them on the display (history), how do you manage to net them....do you back up? I am only comfortable throwing a net off the left side of my kayak, how do i know the shad are not slightly off to the right.
Yes they are...I normally just turn around or toss from the rear deck of the boat. 2D Sonar does not show you left or right, just that something is within the cone. Luckily we really are not talking about 100's of feet differences in most cases. In 20ft of water our cone may only be 10-15ft wide...now consider shad are in the middle of the water column...now that area is maybe 5-10 ft....so you have some margin
Epic video! Do you think this could be used as a portable setup? I work as a spearfishing guide in very remote areas and am constantly switching boats. I’m looking for a sonar/fish finding setup I can use on small inflatable dinghies, fibre boats or pongas with a single outboard engine while being able to easily move it from boat to boat. Cheers and thanks for the help!
Excellent Video! You would think the manufacturers would produce a video like this. Thank you for taking time to do all of this work. I struggled with how much battery I needed to run my gear, FYI I went with Lithium batteries in my boat - except for cranking and saved a lot of weight and gained a lot of reserve power.
I don't have a link for the hose and orifice, I got mine from Barnicle Bills Marine Supply...they specialize in ETEC's. Give them a call. It was kind of expensive for what it is, but everything is expensive anymore :(
The Software would help alot as you can see Realtime data for the motor. Problem is it could be many things...here are a few places to start Plugs, are they gapped & indexed properly Fuel, any restriction, crud in lines or filters Control cable adjustment TPS calibration (Need software)
Hi got a 50 etec took mine out it was the same thing black and dirty after change it put everything back on and still idle good when I go backwards runs good but when I go forward it stalls
@1Cast1Fish i never changed it right after hunting bowhead whales my niece went out hunting bearded seals it stop and no power to go forward or backwards but it would idle okay
You will see that the Red lines correspond to where a fish arch shows up on the screen. The brighter lines are stronger returns and if you watch them once you see the lines (Inside the cone A-Scope) you will see the fish arch start to appear on the screen (History)
My ETEC 115 has the following issue. After idling for a period of time looking for fish and bottom cover with my electronics, the primer bulb gets soft (lack of fuel in it). If I then start my engine and try to get up on plane she will stall because of the lack of fuel in the line. I then squeeze the primer bulb until it’s full of fuel again and once the engine starts it will run fine at full speed. Would this VST filter cause this or should I look elsewhere? I am not a mechanic but I could probably change the filter without having to drive through two states to find someone who will work on an ETEC.
Thanks for the helpful video. I successfully linked my striker 4 and my 4cv. However, if I mark a waypoint on one unit, the other unit shows the waypoint as 2060 miles away. Any idea why?
I would want a full diagnostic check with the software...look at alarm and code history, hours, temps, voltages, ect. Preferably a on the water test with software as well to see any issues in real time or historically. You can also perform system checks with the software such as injector checks
@@1Cast1Fish I meant the modification. The manual for the IV says there’s a rotor brake to prevent unintended bail trip but with my first session last night I almost lost an expensive lure ! Guess the 4 has body slope - part 1E also ? Unimaginable that Penn hasn’t fixed this terrible fault
I think it is because many people still use the reel handle to close the bails :( I always close the bail by hand regardless, but that auto closing feature mostly uses a ramp or similar. It's a catch 22 design....remove it and people will be mad they have to close the bail by hand....leave it....we get this casting issue with heavy baits.
First and foremost, your videos are the ONLY reason I was able to realize my dream of mounting a fishfinder to my kayak; I never knew a transducer could blast sonar through the hull, and had no previous knowledge of the Nocqua battery :) That being said, do the visible fish icons appear when the GS4 is in Clearvu mode, or only in traditional mode? Thanks again for all your help!!
Glad you have enjoyed the videos and learned alot, the fish icons are only for traditional mode. In CV fish will mostly look like little white dots (It;s there swim bladders...air) that you see
My grandfather is giving me his boat soon and he has a fish finder already in it but wanted to get the striker 4. I never knew how to read one since I’ve never had a boat . I always thought all the fish in the screen were the fish under the boat . I really needed this video
You talk about the GT 8 and GT 15. But my unit came with the G20 transducer, and is much larger than the ones you've shown. Can you give an overview of the G20?
The GT 20 is just the base model CHIRP transducer with the addition of Clear VU. The higher end transducers GT8 & GT15 simply are more powerful...they can be used deeper and provides much more detail in your images. All Chirp transducers on principle work the same.
