Hands down the best soft natural styling video I’ve seen. I love this “field guide” approach! Wonderfully systematic concise breakdown with fantastic examples illustrating the style do’s and don’ts.
I’m a soft natural and this video is so incredibly helpful. THANK YOU!!! If you do a follow-up video, I would love to see your take on plus sized soft naturals. And how the different essences work with soft naturals (I think I have some Gamine essence and sometimes it’s tricky to find the right balance). ❤❤❤
Your videos are beautifully done! Great work. It's interesting how essences can change as you age. As a young girl my eyes were very slanted. I was told almost daily that I looked like Brandy Norwood. As I've gotten older my face has completely changed but I've grown into my authentic personality which I believe truly brings out my essence (which I believe may be romantic). Looking forward to more content. It would be great to include more people of color since there isn't as much content on yt for us.
Maybe it's just my impression, but I feel like classic and natural essences are like cousins? Lol I know natural is more about rawness and asymmetry, while classic prefers symmetry, but on the other hand both love interesting materials and textures, a nice equilibrium between angular and soft, simple and neutral tones, hair and makeup... I guess it's due to both being "not-that-yang" and "not-that-yin" either. Can somebody see the same I see? 😅
Great video! I enjoyed seeing how Kibbe's recs for SD can translate into a contemporary idiom. I'm SD myself with a Dark Autumn palette, so seeing sumptuous colors paired with SD lines is always ~chef's kiss~ from where I sit. I recently gave birth to a daughter; needless to say, shopping for postpartum gear with an eye to honoring SD recs plus my seasonal palette has been an adventure. Wrap styles, as in tops and dresses, are where it's at. (I was happy to see wrap styles for both swimsuits and sweaters here.) Again, thank you!
So, question for you when it comes to print for the body types. I have a soft natural body type, romantic essence but I also have ingenue/gamine . For these essences a tiny print is recommended. Big prints age me a lot. I guess I just kind of get confused when people mix in essence terminology with body type terminology. I thought that a combo of both is what makes the look work is the case that it really just depends on the person then?
Depends on how much of those essences are your dominant,if is the large scale essence dominant, than you'e gonna use more large scale prints, if they are almost the same percentage, than medium size might be better,or medium-small/medium-large.
New subscriber over here ! love your thorough explanations and your voice is really easy to listen to, and the examples you give are amazing , colored and non- western examples in these style videos are often so hard to find ! thank you !
This was a great video. The patterns were very helpful because I love patterns but most of them don’t love me! At least it seems like most patterns are not for flamboyant naturals, unfortunately.
I have ingenue essence and everything you explained about this particular essence resonates with me. According to Google, it means the nature of something. In my definition, essence is the aura your soul or spirit gives off. Because of this our inner state is a reflection of what aura/essence we're giving off. Oh also my color palette is warm spring and body type is classic.
16:32 the 2 dresses on the midle look, the one with long corset dress and and sheer fabric is romantic, actualy, florals patterns arent exclusive for ingenues only. That pink dress is not ingenue neither, have ruffles and lightweight fabric but the vibe is not ingenue, they have a romantic feel rather than inocent feel, low neckline also add too. On Scarllet, maybe is not her best color, but is too heavy for ethereal or ingenue, so that doesnt feel youthfull or otherworldy,on Jennifer and Blake looks strange in those dresses 😮 on Margot looks like the dress is wearing her😮. 18:19 mmm I think it really depends person to person some lost the essence or change, some don't. I personaly think she don't look that great tho😐. 20:10 she look very beautifull in the midle 🤩 Loved the video, good job🫶🏽.
I appreciate your detailed analysis. We also must remember that celebrity and fashion are businesses. Anna Wintour pairs designers with Met Gala guests. Wintour has been trying to rehabilitate John Galliano's reputation for years. Therefore, pairing him with Zendaya, a celebrated fashion icon, elevates Galliano's stunning creativity. Was it a good match in this case? As you pointed out, there are different routes Zendaya and her stylist, Law Roach, could have taken. However, we don't know the politics and the business behind the scenes that could have affected their style choices.
I was wondering what it is about the video that kind of didn't sit well with me. I know this is about Ingenue essence, about what makes them shine, about how this could have been a 'missed opportunity' to showcase the Ingenue essence to the next level or to the extreme yin that it is. Now that I think about it, I think it's because we already know what a Prime Ingenue / Prime Ingenue-Ethereal looks, and we've already seen it on Elle Fanning. I see other style influencers and content creators go like, "these are examples of [this] essence, but of course you can find your personal, /authentic/ way of expressing it! Ethereal doesn't always just look like X, you can put your own twist and make it X+You." She chose to wear this, therefore it is still part of her style. While I appreciate this video, and you do put the disclaimer that this is your opinion only, the messaging feels like putting back this Ingenue-Ethereal person back into the stereotypical box of what "Ingenue-Ethereal" looks like. I appreciate this dress because it looks different on her. I appreciate that it shows a different way for an Ingenue-Ethereal person to look, and we honestly need more of that content than the usual examples we can easily find on 100+ pinterest boards.
Agree a lot with your comment, ingenue and ethereal essence can be expressed in many ways but influencers do like to push the stereotype that " ingenue wears clothes with and pink flowers and ethereals wear wedding gouns with with shine facbric" when in reality, ingenue essence and ethereal essence can be mixed with many others essences and creat a style that really reflects what you want to communicate.
I think you're right that your internal essence matters more than your Kibbe type. Kibbe is easier to use practically when you're getting dressed but the reality is your clothes best serve you when they reflect who you are inside.
I'm an FN and this really helped me understand why some gamine elements resonate with me- I've got some gamine in my essence, but i'm mostly natural essence. This video is an amazing pep talk for Natural women, both Kibbe and Kitchener. I'll come back to it when I need some inspiration.
I love Elle's feminility and kindness, she is a sweet person. When I saw her look, it took my breath away, she looked like a glass flower from an ethereal world. I agree with you about her hair and makeup, she could have put a huge thing like Lana Del Rey and then all would have come unbeatable. But I still think she did not disappoint. Thank you for your video, as always.
This was very interesting to watch. I just went through all your videos (they are great btw). I'm a Kibbe body type soft dramatic (pretty much text book, very similar to Sofia Vergara body). But watching the essences, I think I have a mix of primarily romantic but mixed with some natural and dramatic in there.
As a SD its always great to find new videos on SD style tips. Especially, because casual clothing can be quit challenging. But Body Typing together with with Colour Analysis (I'm a Dark Autumn) really makes it so much easier to stay away from things that dont suit me!
You too? High five from one Dark Autumn SD to another! (Although I am still figuring out prints and patterns that honor the recs for both Kibbe ID and seasonal palette.)
When they put her in the gamine lines, her expression looks harsh or even angry, it comes off that way because it is such a mismatch for her essence. Great video.
