I think you killed the yeast by stirring it in hot milk. The butter doesn't do yeast good either. It may have not been known back then that yeast is living cells.
Justine it takes real courage and patience to recreate this era of cooking. But you do it with such ease and perfection! You are truly amazing love you guys!❤
I had never had mush until I got married. My Mother in Law gave me her recipe which called for a small amount of oatmeal to be added. I never have figured out why for sure but I wonder if someone didn't have enough cornmeal so added that! I still add it though even though it's not really needed. I just found your channel and enjoy it very much.
Planning your actual wedding from a different century is a remarkable feat. Thank you for letting us get a glimpse into the past, it must have been extremely difficult to plan a wedding essentially from scratch. Your wedding became a piece of art. Congratulations and well done!
Oh my days, what I’d give to be there! 😢 It feels like this would be such a great vibe in the Autumn, when the leaves are falling, crispness in the air….ugh! Sometimes i want to live in the 1800’s! Lol! But then I realise also how hard life was. Having said that, I’m sure that since they were used to it, and they had no knowledge of the future, that it probably didn’t bother them much, they probably lived their lives and got on with it.
