@@ciachetti hello, thanks for stopping by. What level player are you? I’m not sure how many of my lesson videos you have watched but I have several where I repeat the same lick or phrase many times at various speeds. So I think if you look at some other videos you’ll find some that have more of what you’re looking for. It also helps to watch at slower speeds on RU-vid as well. That’s what I do when I watch videos by gsharp and laszlo. They go much faster than me and add more variation more quickly. If you look at lessons number 3, 6, 8, 10, and 11 I think you will see more repetition and slower speeds. I don’t do tabs at all. I have never even used them myself since I began playing. The idea of writing all that out seems quite tedious. I realize some people learn that way but I think if you just watch and play along you’ll be able to pick it up. Thanks again 🎸👍🏼

Again what a great channel man. Another one for me to study and practice. I know you are way more advanced and maybe detrimental to your practice to do a slow version of the penta scale positions. Idk why I feel I can easily navigate the board but maybe I only use 1-2 positions or something that resolves the flow of the scale but in a conscious way I doubt I know what is position 2-3-4-5 😅 Someone with your approach and patience could really help others like me

@@DragDealer hey man, thanks for reaching out and I am glad to hear that you’re continuing to dig these lessons. I understand where you’re coming from with all the position. I did a rather long video down months ago about transitioning through the boxes, but I’m sure it’s not organized in the best possible way. I was slow to learn them all myself. I have long used box 1 2 and 3 but didn’t use the others. I actually have grown to like box 4 the most Maybe. I don’t tend to use all the stings for each box most of the time but it’s good to know. I do go back and practice then from time to time. Maybe I’ll do a beginner type video for all the boxes. Or maybe I’ll just make one for you ha. Sometimes I get overwhelmed when trying to describe it all because I kind of have all mapped out in my brain visually and don’t think in terms of fret numbers and such. @@slashtrio Thanks for sharing and letting me know I’m not alone, I’m on that point of the journey when something is gonna click but it doesn’t coz i need a more advanced person to break it down to me. I’ll be so stocked to see the video you mentioned on your comment, for me only, no. Hopefully many others are on a similar journey where they also feel like things are clicking but they lack that visualization and breakdown of the transitions and how to use only a few strings on some shapes. That a huge part of the problem, we think we need to hit them all when I fact is learning locks that move around and flow into other shapes. Hopefully (crossing fingers) you make such video. I use mostly 1 and 2, I’m pretty sure I use something else coz my fingers move and flow into other shapes which I can’t tell what they are, maybe another scale idk, it it resolves nicely. I been thinking on driving into the diminished scale but I want to know the penta first and the melodic minor. My nemesis is lacks of transition into other parts and lack of knowledge of blues licks. You’re such a great player so it’s always an honor when any great players gives such nice or complimentary feedback, so cheers my friend. Regarding hand strength or discomfort, I do not do any kind of stretched or hand exercises, although I have been considering starting to do such a thing. I’m getting up there in the years so the body is more prone to aches and tendonitis type of injuries, definitely gone through that with other activities I love like tennis, surfing, and even working out. I play every day for an hour or two and usually my hands are fine. Occasionally I’ll get some joint aches in the fingers, and if I do I’ll just stop for the day. I have been into 50s fat necks for a while but recently got a LP classic that has a much thinner neck and I’m noticing that maybe it’s better for my fingers, at least for fast type playing. But yea, I don’t do exercises as of yet. I think I naturally have a fairly soft touch, not really something I practiced or was even aware of until some people mentioned over the years. That said, I have made even a more conscious effort to not grip any harder than necessary. Oh, I also use lighter strings! I have a hybrid set so that the 1st 2nd and 3rd are from a set of 9s and the others are from a set of 10s. I decided a while ago that lighter would be better for my joint health over the long haul. @@ShumuStudios thanks again man, your feedback has been so nice. Yea we all have our relative strengths I suppose. I started playing pretty young and got into blues in college. I think I naturally had a soft touch which seemed to lend itself for smooth playing and bending and such. I quit playing lead for many years and got back into it in 2019 or so. I started doing more online lessons and heard guys emphasizing bends and good vibrato. I had never even thought about my technique at that point and was pleasantly surprised that I seemed to be already doing it pretty well. But I have continued to be mindful of it and get even better at it. I think it helps if you can sing at all and have a decent ear. I can song okay and I really notice when I hear players, sometimes really good ones, bending out of key or having stuff wonky vibrato. So I try to emphasize that I’m my videos. My weakness has been knowing all the scales, knowing any theory, and playing fast licks. Those are the things I have worked to improve these last few years. Around 9:37 or so you're doing a couple of bends, I think what you're doing is, one, you're bending the 4th up to the flat five a bunch, and second, you're bending the minor 3rd almost to the major 3rd ... kind of mixing major/minor, kind of an exaggerated "blues curl" ... in case you're looking for words to describe what you're doing, maybe mentioning scale degrees in addition to pentatonic positions you already mention might be a place to start. Great lessons, btw, g-sharp and lazlo always seemed to blaze through a little too quickly without enough repetitions and without talking about where they are in the scale imho, so you're more my speed.

@@StephenCameron hey man, I appreciate that technical info! Sounds like you know what you’re talking about. I have definitely learned a lot over the last few years from watching lots of RU-vid guys, particularly some course I got from Brett Papa. And yea, Gsharp and laszlo are excellent blues rock players in general and at the slash style in particular. But I have had some frustrated moments trying to learn from their vids due to them going too fast and not repeating enough. Unfortunately G is no longer with us. Seemed like a cool guy, would have loved to take some lessons from him. Not sure what’s up with Laszlo. He hasn’t posted new stuff in a years or two and seems to have lost his gear! @@slashtrio I really only barely and only recently know what I'm talking about a little bit. When I learned the pentatonic, for some reason, I decided to learn the "blues" scale, which has the flat 5 in it, which conveniently adds this little chromatic run in the middle of the pentatonic scale, and the flat 5 is this obvious landmark in the middle of that run. And then you notice there are these common bends that appear, one of which is the 4th to the flat 5. Another is bending the minor 3rd up a bit is that kinda snarly blues curl. I'm still working on learning, but found that thinking in terms of scale degrees and nashville numbering for chords instead of note names helps a lot in making sense of it all on the guitar. I think you know more than I do, or in any case are a much better player than I am. I just commented because I noticed you mentioned you didn't necessarily have the words to describe what you're doing, and I think maybe what you're missing is scale degrees (the note number within the scale). There are these very common types of bends (cliches, almost, but cliches for a reason) and so on which are probably best described in terms of scale degrees. And then this translates to the various pentatonic shapes easily (as opposed to fret numbers, etc.) OTOH, beginners may not be comfortable with this sort of thing, and be like, "just gimme the tab!" and you've got to satisfy your audience.

Thanks man, well I’m honored to even be mentioned along side of those legends. I’m a huge fan of Gsharp and Laszlo. They play very similarly I think. I’d venture to say that Gsharp is my favorite guitar player! If I had a magic wand I would be happy to grant myself his guitar playing skills. But yea, doing the legato down through the boxes in that fluid way is definitely a challenge and something that I’m still working on myself. It’s one thing to work your way down vertically in each box (which I can do in box 1, 2 and 4 - and maybe box 1 in major pentatonic), but I think the key is getting where you work your way down (or up) horizontally. I tend to do this using slides but also connecting the positions with legato. Don’t think I’m quite ready to teach that yet! It might be hard to watch ha. But I’ll continue to share whatever I can do and continue to learn as I can. I think the things that is helping me progress with this is actually taking the time to learn all the boxes / scales and then just adapting those same licks and patterns to those other positions. For a long time I only used the 1st few strings for each position, and still tend to do that. Thanks again 👍🏼🎸

@@anthonydavella8350 dude that’s probably the coolest comment I have ever gotten! I appreciate that. Yea, well I’m sure part of my uses the slash thing to get clicks, but I think most of my motivation or intention is to demonstrate a slash type style, but not so much how to play exactly like slash or to reach exact solos of his. Slash is a big influence of mine but I am also a big fan of Clapton (particularly blues breakers, cream, and his from the cradle album), SRV, Hendrix, and wait for it…Gsharp. I actually prefer Gsharp’s interpretation is slash style more than slash himself. I have found that many people have different preferences and learning styles so there really is no one way to go about this. Some people want very short videos with no talking, some want me to call out every note like tabs, some don’t mind the long form. Ultimately I decided to just kind of do what comes natural to me and those who like it will watch and those who don’t can move on ha. I’m not in this for money or anything, it’s purely a hobby. @@TheBubbarox cool man, I’m not saying you’re advice isn’t good or worth considering, I’m just trying not to overthink it too much. That’s what I tend to do naturally which leads to me not doing as many lessons as maybe I could. But yea, I’ll continue to try and find the right balance that works. I have never used tabs and never even really grew up thinking of the fret board in terms of numbers, so I’m not so great about calling out frets as I play. For me personally as a learner, I primarily want to see the licks up close, slowed down, and some repetition. Then maybe talk about how specific licks are just ways of opening doors to other similar licks and phrases. I have watched countless gsharp, laszlo, and Jakob slash vids. I wound get frustrated sometimes because they sound kind of fly over down pretty complex stuff too quickly, or maybe add variation too soon, or maybe the cam was too far away and I count not make out what they were doing. My frustration with that was in part my motivation to makes these lessons. I wanted to make some that were more accessible to varying skill levels and to be more clear. Unfortunately I’m not as good as those guys but good enough to help some people.

@slashtrio
@slashtrio 25 дней назад
@@awesomegaming9845 hey man, good to hear from you again. Glad this is helping you. I have been working on this for several months now, mixing major and minor pentatonic I mean. It’s kind of essential for getting the slash vibe, and really lots of great players do it, like Clapton and Hendrix to name a few. I used to only play minor pentatonic and would get stuck. I am mostly self taught but over the last couple of years and I have subscribed to various instructional websites which has given me more skills and knowledge, but still very much a work in progress. So to answer your question, yes ideally you need to know your minor and major pentatonic boxes / scales. I know all the minor pentatonic scales and several major ones, but haven’t memorized all of those. But, I don’t think you have to know them all perfectly to get this vibe. I’m gonna attach some links below. My most recent lesson goes over a phrase that mixes major and minor. But yea, you go back and forth between the positions but also, and this part is important, you can also just target the major notes within the minor scale (or the other way around). So if you’re in position one of A minor pentatonic you can target the major notes within it and then kind of weave in and out of major / minor notes in a fluid Melodic way. Now of you’re playing to a backing track the song needs to have some major chords in it so this sounds good. Take for example the progression of knocking on heavens door or paradise cite, those are great tunes for mixing. Any kind of G C D stuff, you’re kind of on southern rock territory! I don’t know all the theory of that part, that’s where I use my ear and I can hear if it’s wrong. I’ll out some links below. The first is the recent lesson I did. I realize did another one months ago that kind of goes over some of this video that you commented on. Lastly I’ll add a link to Brett papa. He’s great about mixing major and minor for rock guitar. One thing I've noticed particularly is how Slash, G# and Lazlo pick is quite different to what you'd consider the normal taught approach, and none of them mention it too much in their lessons.. @@edlander1797 cool man, glad the lessons I did have helped some. Yea, I never claim to be as good as those guys but thought I was good Enough to try and help some people. As much as I love G and laszlo sometimes their videos aren’t the best for learning, at least for me. You can definitely find a few that each do that’s more clear but many maybe the cam angle isn’t good or they go too fast or don’t repeat enough. I personally learned more licks from a course from Brett Papa and then just kind of played those licks in More slash style way. Basically a lot of the same type licks but just a different vibe. Regarding the picking hand, I have to admit I pay little attention to it! I wasn’t taught formally and definitely hold the pick in a slightly unorthodox way. Like I don’t flap my thumb over the pick (unless I’m doing heavy rhythm like in an acoustic), but hold my thumb very close to the edge of the pick. It results in some accidental harmonics for sure. But I think I alternate pick but don’t think I hold it slanted. It’s all intuition on that side for me, for better or worse. I know Jakob really emphasizes picking really hard to get a slash sound but it’s not how I like it play. I’m more of a softer touch and will just keep my own style in that respect. Come to think i don’t think G or laszlo do that heavy picking like Jakob either. I know it can give you that chirpy sound but I’m not too into that. Thanks again 👍🏼🎸
