Welcome to the home of table top games, wargaming and miniature painting! Check us out at www.spruesandbrews.com. We feature Warhammer Age of Sigmar & 40k
I‘m new to AoS since the beginning of the year and have only plaayed one game so far, but I‘m really excited about spearhead. This might actually be a version my wife can get into playing, since she doesn‘t like hours long games. And apparently all creators who got a preview box agree that this is the best game GW‘s done in years, if not ever. Super excited. My Yndrasta Spearhead is ready to go and I‘m going to pick up a Gloomspite Gitz one for my holiday-project :)
Have not played Sigmar since the crossover and there were no points. Play 40k now mainly. Super excited for this mode as I always wanted to come back, but did not want two large army systems.
Movement demo for fly would be nice. Im guessing its still just as bad as 40k where its actually worse to charge around ontop and down a building instead of around lol. (Its diagonal measurement im guessing still) Great review!
Thanks for the video. I'm a 40k player who's always had an eye on AoS as I love fantasy settings. The Spearhead game mode looks great and has convinced me to jump in on 4th
I don't know how I feel about this boxes big price and focus on spearhead game mode? it feels super tacky to me... The book and cards are all for spearhead, but there's no objective card system like 40k for AoS, it just feels wrong... Why not make proper objective cards for the main game, proper generals book for the main game, it seems half of this box is catering to kids who will make a 1 time purchase.
Nice that AoS finally gets their own combat patrol/boarding action type thing. I play STD but love OBS too so this will be perfect to just get a few minis, play it there, and build from there :)
@SpruesAndBrews nice Any idea what's going to be in it? Or when its coming. I'm just super excited about Spearhead and i have a bunch of IJ so thats why I am a bit sad there are none for them
@@capefury8731 You probably will have to wait a bit then. It seems like they are seperating Iron Jaws from Kruleboyz so each is its own faction. Especially after they nuked savage orks.
I do mention it later in the review, but that symbol means that after the first time the unit is destroyed you can bring it back again in your turn inside your territory and outside of 6 of the enemy - essentially let's you recycle the unit once!
No Ironjawz in the book. What a fucking kick in the nuts. I know they won't have a Spearhead box out right away but is it too much to ask to just provide a fucking list?
Wadhammer Community shared that as soon as it's out there will be a downloadable copy - and I'm sure it'll come in printed form in thr battletome or future Spearhead suppliment
@@SpruesAndBrews There's still no excuse not to have a list right out of the gate. Heaven forbid that people who already have the models can play Spearhead too.
@@SpruesAndBrews ...may I ask: a downloadable copy of the Jade & Fire book, or a downloadable copy of additional Spearhead lists not included in the book? Thank you so much!
I really wish GW would stop with the two faction launch boxes. They’re too expensive for a couple of kids getting into the game and even for adults, unless you’re interested in both armies you now have the problem of selling or trading off half the box. Much better, I think, if they had two versions, with one faction each. I’d probably buy the Skaven side, but I don’t want any more Stormcasts, thanks.
These boxes aren't for new players really, they're for players that have been around for a while. The starters are what's for new players that will come out shortly after. The value in these boxes are always worth getting because if it's like the Leviathan box was, you got $800 of models for $250 without discounts. It's worth getting even if you aren't interesting all all of the items in the box and it won't be hard to get rid of the stuff you don't want in your local area I wouldn't think.
look at warhammer fantasy, there we had two boxes with just one force. but they were not cheap... its GW! ok you need first the money for the big box. but if you just want spearhead you can sell parts of both armys and core book incl handbook cards. the other way, if you want one force, you can sell the other half. guess in both cases you get a fair amount of paper and plastic for the money you spend.
And the value for this box is just insane. Yes it’s expensive, but you can find it online for $225, which is crazy for the number of units that you get
They are quite durable, the Saurus Warriors have a 3+ save while on an o jective, and you can give them a 6+ ward while in your territory too, meanwhile the Carnosaur is a big high damage threat in Spearhead
@@Dennis3113There's a lot of games in already. There's a channel that does games of Spearhead already and they've been pretty good. So far the reception has been really positive.
Sounds fun, but just like 40k combat patrol, the spearhead detachments are designed to "encourage" (force) people to buy newer models or models they most likely will not have if they played a specific subfaction in the previous edition.
I hope the new models that come after this boxset for both the Stormcast and Skaven arn't just more boring hero's, and are monsters, dragons, battline units, and elite units like the newer giant-er rat ogre thing (can't remember the name), im already disappointed we got yet another hero revealed (the one with wings), like Gw just give us some dracontith battline units like Tempesters but have wings and no riders and come as a unit of 3!!!!! THAT WOULD BE AWESOME, MORE DRACONITH UNITS!!!
I really wish that they had not made color alone apparently a distinguishing, important rule feature with no further indication. A little icon or the word "shooting"/"combat" would be nice, because they also chose red and green to denote Melee and Shooting abilities, with the same exact value, which to someone who is red-green color blind like me (and 10% of male humans) I can in no way differentiate those two colors. So I read Yndrasta's scroll, and it looks like she has an ability that doubles the damage of her weapons against monsters. People tell me this works only in melee because it is red colored. I have no way to distinguish that if I read the rules. Hearing that movement phase is actually gray clears up a lot of things too, because I can't see the difference between 3 of the colors.
I think you are right. It's a passive attack ability, and it doesn't say it is locked to the Combat Phase. A model like the Spirit of Durthu, in their passive +1 to hit when within range of a Wyldwood, has a clear sentence that says ''combat attacks'' pointing towards the passive only being in effect during the Combat Phase. It could be a little more clear though, that is true. But I think a bit of logical thinking would go a long way too. ''Why would a spear against monsters suddenly not double damage when being thrown versus when it is used in close combat like an on-and-off switch?'' it would be a silly question indeed.
Its been confirmed that the colors don’t dictate when a rule can be used if it can be used in multiple phases, just when it’s most-likely to be used. It’s just an extra feature, not the way the rule works.
They look nice but I wonder what they are made of? It looks to me like it's some thin cardboard or the like, not like those "competetive" neoprene thicker ones with non-slip underside with some rubber.
IMO, a HUGE failure here is not tossing that tiny rule book and some zone hazard cards in the “expansion” box and turning both boxes into twin starters. The lack of that, and a literal pamphlet of a few additional scenarios is all that makes the blue box a secondary purchase.
Being as you get almost the same amount of content, very little difference, it's hardly a HUGE fail, the difference is marginal, so the price would be maybe 5% less, if they'd left out the 2nd set of dice then it could have been cheaper for sure, but extra dice is a big win, and to be honest who ISN'T going to end up buying both sets in any case. For the combined cost of the two boxes it compares very well with everything else on the market.
It's essentially a drybrush, so not full coverage. I wouldn't bother stripping them, as some have suggested, but I would definitely give them a proper prime.
Yeah, this type of marker is pretty much required for a competitive setting, but for casual play I’d rather just use small scatter terrain and make do. I’m always wondering if the dreaded 2d terrain will appear, the way it did with Warmahordes.
