I was thinking of getting some traitor guard any way so will probably pick up a box if it makes it to third party retailers. Could be more cards and boards in forth coming white dwarf mags
I am mainly into the lore (I collected 300+ Black Library books in the last 5 years, mainly 40k but some Warhammer Fantasy as well). I am into video-games (1000+ hours in Vermintide 1/2 and Darktide combined + many other Warhammer video games and not only of course). I am NOT into Warhammer wargaming tabletop, due to high complexity, extreme dice chucking, time and money requirements and painting requirements which is something I just can't and don't want to do. However I like board games and I buy and play some. For Warhammer I have some board games including the 3 'Space Marine Adventures' games and the 'Warhammer Quest: Lost Relics' (and I play 'Blackstone Fortress' digitaly at Tabletop Simulator). Also I am mainly solo board gamer. So this Darktide Miniature Game is perfect for me. I completely realize it's a ultra-light and very simplistic, so in essence it's a butchered version of the real thing. But since it can be played just solo (with the "A.I." behavior) and it doesn't really need to be painted (I have all the abovementioned Warhammer board games unpainted and it works okay) it's a good little way to emulate a Kill Team experience despite being just a shadow of the real deal. So I am happy of this product (pre-ordered already). Its target audience is us casuals and not you seasoned veterans whatsoever. And the main idea of GW is to try and pull us into the real deal. Agreed. The price would be my primary downside for this game but otherwise I think it’s perfectly for the board gamer , the casual gamer , the Warhammer curious etc… not saying that the complaints from the Warhammer veterans don’t matter but to the casual gamer, do you think the casual gamer is going to be upset because there are no new sculpts … heh I very much doubt it. For someone who is Warhammer curious , wants to “dip their toe” into Warhammer but don’t want to “go all in” buying a kill team starter set , assembling tons of minis , buying the missing parts to make a full team etc… this game hits the mark.
I might be getting some currency conversion wrong (Just like GW have since the 90's!) but does this box cost more than the current Kill Team starter (the one with Vet Guards and Ork Kommandos)? Putting out a 'lite' version of a game that ends up costing more than the full thing is a bold move.
Wow wasn’t £65 , I got blood bowl for that when it came out.. just think it’s over priced for what it is, normally would have got something like this, like the lord of the rings game that can out, that was cheap… you can get a 40k starter set for £32ish.. really shame.
One thing I noted for the heroes, they are older models but they are new sprues as can be seen from the dates on the sprue. The original models weren't on sprues like that. Looks like the dates on the bad guys sprues are from 40k 8th edition and Blackstone. As far as pricing in the US, looks like MSRP $110 which is way too much for this. When you compare to other previous starter games like Fireteam, Bladeborn, Lost Relics, Space Marine, etc., they were around the $50 range when they released. I won't be buying this.
