The expelling of the French Huguenots was thought to be not that costly, but Prince Eugene almost single handily exacted that cost through blood.

Yes, since the front wasn’t all that far away.

06:31 So he fought for the French, rhen against them? As De Saxe fought for the Brits, then against them? But why??
@FieldMarshalYT
@FieldMarshalYT 7 дней назад
It was regular at this time for officers and soldiers to serve in multiple different armies. National identity and nationalism stepped aside for loyalty to Monarchs.

Wade wasn’t a very good commander. The officer is playing on humor ; the capture of Wade might just result in a competent general replacing him.

Impressionnant, vous faîtes énormément d'effort pour garder et prononcer les noms Français des régiments, c'est très courtois.

Luxembourg was part of kingdom of the Netherlands. It only became independent after the death of king Willem III because they still had the law that women couldn't inherit the throne, and Willem only had a daughter wilhelmina

The Habsburgs really needed to manage the genetic line far far better ... they were kings they could choose as they liked the smartest and healthiest suitors from the common folk to keep the genetic line good. Imagine the legacy they could have created instead of an inbred, sick offspring incapable of furthering the dynastic line. There was plenty of opportunity for this not all arranged marriages were needed politically to rise in power.

"This brought forward the largest extend of the Holy Roman empire since Charles the 5th in the 14th century." Charles V ruled in the 16th century, not the 14th.

ANOTHER ENGLISH FALSIFICATION It is incredible how many battles the British allocate to themselves while they were only helping their continental allies that were the real fighters and providers of logistic and weapons. In this battle, they even dare to minimize the french victory and even the irish participation.

Although an interesting video, the fast monotone narration and mispronunciations make it hard to follow. For the record, Eugene is pronounced as follows: "eu" as in "burr", and "gene" as in "gentry" (but with a soft "g", not the "dj" sound).

And this is the reason why John Churchill is Britain's greatest ever soldier. And to achieve all that whilst juggling Parliamentary frictions, an unstable queen and his wife's intrigues at court makes it all the more remarkable. Any other contenders in anybody else's opinion? And why please. 🤔
