Barbary Pirates. Actully most of those pirates were Dutch captains converted to Islam so that they can raid British/Iceland. Theoricly they worked under Ottoman but it is a bit stretch
Eastern Roman Empire or Byzantine empire , also by the westerners of the time called imperium Graecorum ( Empire of the Greeks). This is after the split of the Roman Empire , the western empire was destroyed by north European barbaric tribes and the eastern was inherited to the Greeks , it’s our historical legacy the Byzantine empire resurrected Hellenism which continues the spirit of the Greco-Roman world. The new Rome transferred to the Ancient Greek city of Byzantium which took the name from the Greek general Byzas of Megara. And Constantine the Great who was of Greek descent after his death the city named Constantinople. So don’t say inaccuracies. This our legacy not yours. The legacy of classic Rome ends in the split. After we have and the schism of christianity , Catholic church of the west and Eastern Orthodoxy. It’s two different ways
ROME shall never truly die, not as long as one of us lives on to keep that dream alive, for we are its Legion, its countless, nameless, faceless, sons and daughters, we are here, we are ready, waiting for the call, for the return of the Augustus, the First Citizen, the Imperator, Constantinople shall be reclaimed from the barbarians! The crimson banner shall flutter in the winds once more, the Aquila shall rise with the sun again! AVE IMPERATOR, SOL INVICTUS, DEUS VULT!
The video is full of errors. It was probably prepared by someone who was a Greek nationalist. I laughed the most at the Greek Orthodox part. There has never been such a thing as Greek Orthodoxy. Actually, it is a Roman Orthodox church. Today, it still continues its activities in Türkiye under the name of the Rum (Roman) Orthodox Church.
something you have to remember is that one never had to be from Rome to be a roman emperor. You just had to ovethrough the current emperor, no matter what corner of the empire you were from. Furthermore, Constantinople was officialy called new Rome. So Constantine Paleiologos, and all the other emperors of the romans after Justinian are totaly legitimate
let's be honest, Constantine was left alone with a few Italian mercenaries against 80 thousand Ottoman soldiers, even the Italians betrayed him in the last days of the siege, in other words Constantine tried everything to prevent the fall of Constantinople, comparing Constantine and Octavian makes no sense in my opinion
The story but not History. That means lies. The story of the emperor’s ( Constantine - xi ) last speech, the tearful embraces and the commanders’ eager declarations of their readiness to die for their country and faith has been told and retold over the centuries as an inspiring example of defiant heroism and self-sacrifice in the face of desperate odds. Sadly, it is almost certainly untrue. The chronicle that tells the tale was a forgery. It purports to be an eyewitness account of the siege by the Byzantine courtier and statesman George Sphrantzes (1401-c.1478), but it was, in fact, composed over a century later by a Greek archbishop living in Naples. Writing in the hope that the Holy Roman Emperor was soon to make war on the sultan and restore Constantinople to Christian rule, the author embellished and exaggerated the heroism of his Byzantine forebears, hoping to rouse his compatriots to a war against the common Muslim enemy. The many genuine contemporary accounts of the 1453 siege tell a very different story. Some mention that the emperor made a speech but they ascribe very different words to him and not one of them describes his emotional request for forgiveness or the mutual embraces and declarations. On the contrary, many first-hand accounts record that the Byzantines of Constantinople were decidedly unwilling to lay down their lives and that the most active defenders of the city were the Venetian and Genoese contingents. It was said that wealthy Byzantines hoarded their money rather than donate it to fund the defence while poorer ones demanded to be paid to participate.Even among the Byzantine ruling classes, there was little interest in heroic last stands. While Constantine XI and some of his commanders undoubtedly did die on the walls of Constantinople fighting the victorious Turks to the last, not everyone was prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice. Napoleon tried to restore Roman Empire as he was french with Italian and Greek origins... Modern France was the truly successor of Roman empire as Germans and British were considered as barbarians
Slight error here. After Augustus said to his loved ones: "I found Rome of clay; I leave it to you of marble," he added the following: "Did I play my part well in this comedy called life? Dismiss me with your applause." Those were his true last words.
THE Shame in Christians .Ortosox and Catolic. The Good true Onlie King of King Jessus Christos.Tis Division destroed Europe .maybe John more chistian that Ivan.Maybe Fransis more christian that Vangelius ?
Why "Descendants of the Greeks"? Until the end and even later, although they spoke Greek, the Romeos (Eastern Romans) called themselves Romans and called the place Rome.
@@desaden7561 I'm serious. They discovered or rediscovered their entire current classical identity, which in some cases is snooty and unpleasant, in the 19th century thanks to the educated Europeans who went on holiday in those places because they were passionate about classicism. Until then they continued to call themselves Romans because they were the Eastern Roman Empire, to those who asked what it was they replied Rome (also because they were Christians and Rome was the empire that became Christian, the Greeks, although great, were parafans). Italian historians study a lot and are very careful about these things.
Say whatever you might, I wouldn't have liked to live under the roman world. Just look at how poor Jesus ended up, or the pharisees (also crucified) or the slaves sent to the arenas, or the first christians being thrown to the lions, and after that the ""pagans""" being brutally murdered. That age was a bloodshed.
