Firstly thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and making this tutorial. I have watched many videos of Fantom but this is like almost complete tutorial. Fantom has fantastic futures but only this always missing is combination sounds like how Korg kronos and montage is providing. Only reason I love Korg but as a pianist I don’t like the weighted action on Korg RH3 doesn’t feel like a real piano action but montage has still better action. After the Kawai MP11se I prefer the Roland PHA50 action and also piano sounds are nice especially V piano. I had a choice between RD2000 & Fantom8 but I choose the RD2000 as it has very much similar design and future as a pianists point of view. For Music production I prefer Logic and for sounds I prefer VSTI. I am happy with the RD2000 but I am still waiting for replacement of Kawai MP11se. Love the tutorial. Thank you again 🙏❤
Very nice review. Your are a very good pianist. I love the RD2000 a lot it has decent piano sounds but the action is really fantastic. I love Kawai MP11se because it has fabulous pianos sounds and action feels like real piano. RD2000 is more versatile in a not so heavy also there’s no compromise in built quality. If anyone looking for best piano which can sound like real piano then V piano expansion may solve the purpose. Thanks!
Question Bro 🙋 - can the Akai road hammer 88 be plugged into the MCP 61 with the possibility of giving you 88 weighted keys and more octaves ? I sent a note into Akai to see if this would be possible. That would certainly aid in orchestral companions where higher and lower octaves are needed
Great videos ! I feel very confediant after watching yo explain the use cases for this keyboard as a studio composition tool and for live as a backing track tool - I am conviencred that the MCP 61 is a great tool in our music tool box. Thank You brother I have one on the way ! Cheers 🍻
Your videos are top notch ! I like how you explained your live setup using this as backing tracks and having another 88 keyboard 🎹 with your setup . Chefs kiss 💋!
I have never been interested in playing any sort of instrument until about a month ago. I secretly bought a Roland RD-2000 and picked it up today, with Rolands KC 80 amp and Rolands RPU-3 foot switch pedal and headphones and ( she doesn’t know ). It will be my first time touching a keyboard. I want to master the piano over the rest of my life and I turn 60 in one month. Long story short, my wife had 12 years of lessons and played piano for the church for 25 yrs. She is 60 and she started playing when she was 4 yrs old. So, she’s pretty much a pro. I am not going to tell her and I will surprise her when I sit down at her piano and play “Fur Elise”. BTW, I’m putting the Roland RD2000 piano in my home office and only playing it with the amp when she is not home otherwise it will be with the headphones. She never comes into my office because it’s far enough away from the central part of the house and is over the garage. She’s going to freak. Wish me luck. 🙂👍
Thank you. I wish I could find your video before I bought this keyboard. This is just for backing tracks. If needing instant sounds while playing, I would get stuck with only 8 sounds for the whole night unless I load anotherproject. This really sucks. So limited. So disappointed.
I currently own a mc 707, and what I love about zen core is the pcm waveforms, does this keyboard also comes with those?. I love how basic they sound but still interesting. Only 64 steps per pattern? not 128?😮
Yes but with using the V-Piano with unlimited polyphony, you don't have to worry about the piano cutting out. However, if you are using the same exact sounds on the "regular" Fantom, you will get the same issue.
This is one of the best combos workstation and keys out there In my opinion. I own a mpc live 2 one of the easy thing I ever learned how to use for real . I’m still learning after only 4 months
Hi Derrick, You have used the Roland FA in the past, does it have the same polyphony issue? I like Roland and want to buy one but can't use the fantom o due to issues with polyphony.
Brilliant Video.. Thanks Derrick. I actually refunded my original Fantom 06 because of the Polyphony cuttoff, which i thought was a software bug .. I ended up, believe it or not .. getting a Korg Krome Ex in the meantime, which I was shocked that it has such a great keybed and Im enjoying working in the old style "Modes" .. I was considering getting the bigger brother of the 06, the Fantom 6, but I cant believe Roland have the same Polyphony issue in that as well, which would appear to be a "Feature",. not a bug.. I think I may end up getting either a Nautillus or a pre-owned Kronos .. Thanks for saving me £4000 Derrick.. Blessings
Negotiated pre-owned prices (06/2024) in my area, all synths in very good to mint condition: Nautilus 61 (no AT) 1350 Montage 6 1700 MODX6 750 MODX6+ 850 Motif XF 7 1200 Motif XS 6 800 Genos 1 1900 PSR-SX900 1250 Akai MPC Key 61 1000 MODX8 850 (auction end price) Which one would be the ultimate price/function&sound winner in this set?
The MPC Key 61 is a sound designer's hardware dream. The layout is just fantastic. People take the MPC Key 61 for granted because there are so many great synths/keyboards out there right now. Years from now people will still want them because it is going to become a classic. I do ambient and coupled with the Wavestate SE + Modwave .. I couldn't imagine living without either one of them.
I get whiplash watching your videos When you speak, I hear a white vegan mountain climber man from Colorado that owns a chihuahua named Edward. Then I hear you play the keys so beautifully and I hear a soulful black man who is related to Donny Hathaway and grew up in west Philly. Haha. Thank you for what you do brother. The way you play is beautiful. I just wish you would play more and a little slower, between speaking. Such a tease. Amazing keys. ❤
