A parking lot for my travel memories. I have nothing to sell you. No courses, no email sign ups, nada. This is where I park my travel memories.
I’ve travelled to 26 countries over the last 20 years, most recently with Terry (whose voice you’ll hear on some videos) to 6, so I thought that it was time to document my adventures in one place. I am especially thrifty and love to figure out cheaper ways to travel whilst not compromising on reasonable luxuries.
Enjoy the videos! If I can help with any advice about any of the places, races, etc. that I/we have been to, please don't hesitate to reach out!
Loved your video. Lucky enough to be returning to Rome & this time I want to go UNDERGROUND COLLESEUM AT NIGHT ONLY. Already saw Forum HOW DO I GET TICKETS FOR UNDERGROUND AT NIGHT??
Hi! You're right, I was at the Colosseum in 2010 and just checked my pictures, the downstairs and underground section was closed then so would definitely have been in 1984. I hope that you get to go again and can see this magic first-hand :-).
Leave Pompei & the dead Pompeians alone. this city should'nt have been excavated, let alone the dead bodies disrespected by scientists & tourists, placed in glass cages & so on. a disgrace for humanity.
They should finish installing the rest of the floor and cover it with sand just like ancient times, people would get a real feeling of what it was like.
In the 1960s, the hypogeum was open to anyone and you could walk around down there anywhere you wanted without those raised walkways. But then again, in those days, there might have been only 200 or so people in there at any given time.
That would’ve been incredible! I was just pondering your comment and thinking back how extra spectacular travel must have been in the 60s…no RU-vid, internet, etc. Imagine the anticipation and wonder of travel back then!
Yes, it is interesting...but in a sad way to me. Hopeless people, men, women, children, all going to be slaughtered as entertainment for others. So many animals killed...again for entertainment. The Gladiators themselves......not just man against man at times.....and usually ended up as they were killed off one by one....a friend you had made in there.....or someone you knew had no chance against you and you would have to kill him.....all for someone's view of entertainment. Yes...a chance for freedom....at the cost of many others you had known....ate with, talked to, saw on a daily basis. The Colosseum itself...yes most interesting, the design, seating, etc., I wonder if anyone ever took or kept a log...for a count of how many had died there. And afterward....what did they do with the bodies ?
I love the empathy with which you’ve observed this. It’s bizarre, when considering modern standards and human rights, that it was considered normal to do that with people and animals. I am grateful that I was born when I was! Anna
Hi Ian, thank you very much for the feedback, so happy you enjoyed it with us. The tour guide told us some horror stories; the fights, Nero’s cruelty and just generally how disposable people seemed to be back then. Great time to be alive today for sure!
Very well done. The colosseum Hypogeum must be surreal to walk through....walking in the same footsteps that thousands of people walked before going up to be killed. It looks like you really have to use your imagination when looking out into the arena, but one area where you don't is the concourse you shot at the beginning. You can so easily picture the thousands of Romans making their way into the colosseum, taking that same walk. Maybe you'll show it in a later video, but the emperor's entrance is also very interesting. You can stand on the same stones that the famous emperors of Rome walked on as they made their way into the colosseum.
Hi Sebastian, love your feedback, thank you! My imagination went wild when walking through; especially how the gladiators must have felt walking to meet their fate. It’s almost unimaginable. Unfortunately we didn’t get to the Emperor’s entrance as we were on a tight timeline to make the Roman Forum before closing time. However, I threw a coin in the Trevi Fountain so will definitely be back in Rome! Anna
Hi Wahjoe, thanks for reaching out! We got the GoPro 11 Content Creator kit for this. If you’re out filming all day I suggest a few extra batteries just in case, although the stick and battery lasts really long. We also took a battery pack to charge everything while we had lunch, dinners, etc.
I went to Pompeii on a cruise excursion and it felt surreal walking through the same streets and sidewalks that those that perished thousands of years ago also walked!
Hi Carlos, we had the same feeling. I was amazed at how great some of the cobbled roads still looked. The rain on the day added to the pulling at the heart strings and amazement as we walked through.
Love how you are taking time to have a good look at things..I always love to look at videos of both Pompeii and Herculanuem ...Would love to visit both sites someday
Hi Christine, thank you! We were very fortunate to have a month to travel around Europe so could take it a bit slower. The “one year trip” is the next goal; stay tuned! 🌹 Anna
Look at how few tourists there are just 4 weeks ago. We are here currently (May 14th to 19th), and Rome, including the sites, is absolutely jam-packed.
Hi Matt. We were surprised that it was so quiet when we went. London was the exception though, almost couldn’t move in the streets! Good luck with the crowds and have a great trip!
Hi Angela! We booked ours on Viator. Here’s the link (we don’t earn anything by sharing this) www.viator.com/tours/Rome/Ancient-Rome-and-Colosseum-Tour-Underground-Chambers-Arena-and-Upper-Tier/d511-3731COLOSSEUM_SMALL I suggest you book well in advance as they sell out quickly due to the small size of the groups. It’s pricey but was worth every cent!
I still get goosebumps when I listen to it. Such a great privilege to have experienced this moment in real life and I’m very happy that you, too, enjoyed it. Anna
Awesome video 👍🏽🙌🏽 gonna be honest I usually prefer hearing the details rather than having to read them but this was excellent! 😃 thank you for sharing 🤎
Hi Meg, such a lovely compliment, thank you! So happy that you enjoyed the voiceless one despite your preference. Truth be told, I’m struggling to love my voice on video 😅but am working on it. Thanks again! Anna
Hi Laurent, sounds like you had a great trip! Have a great trip in September and enjoy being so close to so many beautiful things in Europe! It feels like I live 100 light years away by living in Australia 😂
Been to both sites in person and it was a joy and an experience to go to them, I don't have an favourite between Herculean and Pompeii they are marvels on their own but it's nice to see how both sites gives you an insight how they were at the time. I was only there in April '23
So glad you also got to see both! I hope you had better weather than we did though, although the rain at Pompeii did add to the drama and emotion of the place and what happened there. I hope the rest of your trip was just as magical! Anna
Dankie coach! Dis mooi hier in Australia, ne? Die bos lyk so anders hier as in Suid Afrika. Translation: thank you coach! It’s beautiful here in Australia, isn’t it? The bush looks so different here than in South Africa. Anna

The views are beautiful from up there and there was an amazing citrus smell from the garden filled with orange trees that still remains. Safe travels and I hope you have perfect weather.
I would have loved to see what it looked like back then. I remember when I went for my first time time in 2010 the underground area was closed and grass filled the floors. I hope you put a coin in the Trevi fountain to ensure your return to Rome :-). Anna
This was one of my favourite things to do in Rome! It was most certainly a very moving experience to walk down in those tunnels and absorb so much of Rome's rich history.
Anna, I'm booked for the "Full Experience, Coloseum Underground" tour in 2 weeks. It includes entry to the Forum and the Palatine Hill. But I don't know if it includes the "Super Sites." Did your ticket include that?
