We are Brittany and Drew, husband and wife, who have been traveling the world by van for 8 years and counting! It all started with an idea to teach English in Asia, when we were offered an unused camper to explore our own country 1st! After that 1st year (2015), we got married, flew to England and bought our very own rolling home for a 2.5 year van life honeymoon across Europe and N. Africa. Then, in 2018 we returned to the USA and self converted Spirit, our beloved and handcrafted Sprinter Van. For over 3 years, we searched hi and low for just the right project, international lifestyle and unique property to call home. We made the biggest purchase of our lives and have now shifted all the of the energy we poured into our travels into transforming the home of our dreams. 💪
Global vanlifers now currently parked full time on raw land and renovating a historic watermill ruin (called the Magic Mill) into our #dreamhome in Southern Portugal 🇵🇹💫!
It's amazing how much those new terraces have added to your property. It creates so much space out of a slope that you couldn't really use. It's definitely a huge improvement.👍
We have been watching every video n amazed at the progress everyday. Those walls are so thick n so time consuming. Your team of workers are so fantastic. Can’t wait to see another update. Obsessed! In a good way. Glad kitties found great parents. Dave n Patty from Bethlehem Pa USA
Widać dokładnie jak wysoko podniósł się poziom gruntu po wielkim katakliźmie. Pierwotnie na pewno były schody wejściowe do tego domu od frontu,i wysokość pomieszczeń była inna, i zapewne piwnica też była. A teraz niewiele zostało....
Wow! Some big work got done this week! That’s super cool that the workers can watch with their families to see what they’ve helped you create! and very impressive climbing skills, Brittany! Proud of you! Love from Mary in SoOC💗
Hey Drew!! Search on Google for “Carneiro hidráulico” this is a machine that will pump water up hill with no electricity. You should check that out. 👍🏻 works 24 hrs
Hi there! I just found you…subscribed. Where are you? You are American, yes? So why make your home elsewhere? How does your family feel about this? Please don’t think I’m being rude…my granddaughter moved from N.Y. to Canada. I’m trying to accept that…I’m too old to travel, so I will very seldom see her. I raised this girl, so it’s hard for me. Thus all the questions! Anyway, your progress is amazing…I will watch faithfully.
Hello sweet new follower! We are blessed with a family who is very supportive of our choices and journey 🙏 My dad immigrated from France to Canada and ultimately to Florida when he was a child. I used to spend summers with my great grandparents and cousin in France, and ever since I was young, Europe always felt like home to me ❤️ Luckily we are able to visit family back in the states a couple times per year and they come to visit us in Portugal. We lived in California before becoming nomads (then we traveled the world in a campervan for 8 years), so now that we are stable and in one place, it’s like we can see each other more, even though we live overseas 💞 They are just happy that we are happy… and that makes us grateful and happy too 🥰🤗😘 Also, sharing our lives with them through RU-vid each week definitely helps keep us all connected ❤️ Looking forward to sharing it all with you tooooo ✨
Okay, I am a sucker for beautiful nature timelapse videos. You have an abundance of jaw dropping scenes in this video. That’s why I subscribed. I am also fascinated with your project to create your home in a foreign country, as a USA citizen. Amazing! I can’t wait to see more.
Your Portuguese must be getting really good now! Between your lessons and actually speaking to Portuguese people in different scenarios you must be learning very fast! It is always great to learn a new language! The tanks look great. You must be feeling so much safer now. Or you will once all the lines and sprinklers are put in! Fire prevention planning is even more important for where you live! Way to go guys! Have a great week!❤️🙏🏼👋🏻🇨🇦😎🫶🏼
You need a solar controller for a ram pump that will turn on the one way valve up to your tanks to pump water when a water pressure sensor in the tank triggers that the refill is required. The water pressure sensors can be Wi-Fi or direct wired into float on top of the water with a small micro solar panel on the top of the tank. It then sends a signal to the pump controller to then open the intake for ram pump. The ram pump can just use pressure from the flow of your creek to run. Very effective low tech equipment combined with high tech solar and sensor. I have seen one ram pump inaction to pump to three different locations higher up the hill side over 100m than the pump location using solar microcontroller systems. When not needed the system can be shut off and the water flow of creek not be affected and the pump silenced. Seen these types of systems in use in Indonesia, Philippines, Borneo and in Australia. Hell of a lot quieter to fuelled or electric pumps plus more fire resistant options. You can have a manual override to a run a sprinkler high pressure irrigation type watering system to cover house roof with constant water mist when under threat of fires. Additionally you should consider installing down pipe stoppers at about a meter high on your down pipes so you could flood the down pipes and gutters to further protect house from embers. Anyway do you have a plan to address the eucalyptus trees near your van and the high eucalyptus fire load that I can observe at the top of the terrance slope, along the upper roadside and on the other side of your valley. Just an Aussie who survived Ash Wednesday 1983 bushfires but also lost family then and most recently lost friends and family as 2009 Victorian Bushfires. 3 million acres burned in one day. Learn lessons from Australia that we have did the hard way. There were state & federal investigations ie royal commissions into the 1983 SA & VIC fires and property protection was put into building codes. Things like 15 meter clearance of highly voc trees from dwelling which I know Portugal has similar requirements. Your evacuation plan needs cover when you leave along with what you do when you can’t. Have you in the project planning included a last resort emergency shelter into your building redevelopment? Portugal and wildfires is like Australia and bushfires - It is NOT IF but rather WHEN IT happens.
Cheers for that Mr & Mrs Adventure. Next time we go to Iceland we'll be checking out the sparkly lava tube for sure! I'm looking forwards to seeing how your tiny hydro-electric scheme turns out back in Portugal - I'm sure I saw the cogs turning in Mr Adventure's brain there! (They do have micro-schemes here in Scotland so its worth an internet rummage to see what could be done). Thanks for sharing.
Wow Im impressed Drew you cover a lot of ground sorting the hoses out, young and fit! The clamps on those chains are massive and amazing how they clip on and support all that weight. Hats off to both of you for all the decisions you make, I really struggle with making decisions now. The kitties on the bed so cute x
Lithium batteries are made with cobalt. Lithium, nickel, and cobalt are used to make the batteries. The Congo has 70% of the world's reserves of cobalt and literal slave labor is used to extract the minerals. There is no sustainable energy options on planet because they all heavily rely on Congolese slaves. As it stands coal is probably the least harmful way to power your house, depending on how you source it.
