You have to Check out Combo Devils, one of the new smash like games that look very promising. It’s a mashup of traditional fighter mechanics and platform fighter mechanics.
I think the "You didn't play well enough" isn't a good argument, and I like Sonic, but unless a person is really blowing it by neglecting the most basic tutorials, you should be able to "Play" and either feel motivated to do better, or enjoy it anyway. SA1/2 had quite tight controls and functioned pretty good. 2 was a stepdown from 1 (1's characters generally had better momentum, 2 kinda janked it with Eggman/Tails) The real dark age started around 2006 and stretched for the next 10ish years, you had notable exceptions but a lot of the mainline games were starting to be jank or gimmicks that didn't work out (Motion controls, boost, broken and rushed releases) and a fear of "Being serious" where the stories became very safe and generic and robbed the game of a lot of attitude and personality (Eggman held strong but he's one part of a whole puzzle) SA1 is a genuinely good game that's rather tight and responsive and has a satisfying gameplay style, only Big breaks the momentum too much, but otherwise it feels pretty good. The music is good, the story works, the stages are well designed (There's no "THAT" stage), and then 06 followed by Unleashed really dropped the ball and scared the devs from making something "Serious" or like the older games, hence why you got Secret Rings and such after. Some games are still fun, I personally like Colors, but it was a very real lull in the series and I think that's when people grew a lot more cynical looking back at SA 1/2, it was more of a "Well I'm disappointed with the new games so I'm going to be a cynic about the old stuff." Also yeah the ports for SA1 were utterly abysmal, That era suffered badly from ports, and Sega still hasn't done any justice for the ports, you have to rely on mods, and that's a very legitimate major criticism. It's their biggest mascot and they treat it so poorly.
I think it's funny that people think by getting angry at someone on Twitter they will bring them down a peg. For me I would be very flattered that people are engaging with my opinions in any way possible. I love sonic and I find coney just saying things with no research is dumb not just for sonic for any topic. But I think ignoring him is the way to go. Not giving his opinion the time of day. You can't change everyone's opinions.
Sonic is not the only franchise with fans carrying this weird victim mindset. I've seen too many people insecure about liking Xenoblade or other RPGs making boogeymen out of Dunkey or other content creators who bash the games; it's so weird

I really hate the way people use the term "bad take" or "good take". Like they essentially just mean opinions but with a layer of "objectivity". Like, I'll see people say that X youtuber is bad because he has "bad takes" but in reality its just X youtuber liking a game they dont like or disliking a game they like. It sucks too cause i used to see people use the term "bad take" to refer to whenever someone said something awful/racist or whatever but its been watered down so much.
Here's how I Rage bait. I'd rather play a mid 3d sonic game than ANY mainline Mario game, that includes my favorite mainline Mario games Super mario world and Mario 64. I might play Mario party and Mario kart or some of the Mario sports games over the mid sonic games but that means the good Sonic games like sonic Generations or Sonic Adventure games id rather play then most. But I actually rather play majority of sonic games than majority of the "good" Mario games. The Mario games may technically be more well made but I get bored of them way quicker the Mario games are too stale for me, sonic games at least have an attempt to be different and they may fail quite a bit but I feel like Mario games just aren't very exciting.
I like sonic, I legit think most of the 2D games are STILL really good and hold up well. Mania was fantastic, for example- but that highlights the tragedy that NOW, the best of Sonic will come from fans not the IP holder (a lot of reasons for this). 3D sonic since jump has like, 4? games that are "okay" AT BEST? Rest is completely forgettable and meme fodder.
Sonic has got to be the most polarizing video game character of ALL TIME. Ppl love him, ppl hate him, some love some of his games, others hate some of his games. nobody can agree on Sonic. His media tends to have more uniformity and agreement. Everyone agrees on the cartoons, being Great, Mailed in, Unwatchable, Iconic, and Bad. (Ordered by when they debuted) Nobody hates the comics, and the movies are successful despite the missed opportunities. Everyone wanted him in Smash Bros. But now they hate him more than Eggman after seeing his optimal fighting style and repetitive move set. If anyone reads this please tell me. i thought sonic fans were the same way as i see the pokemon games, as in you know the games are mediocre but still love them because you either grew up with them or you find the little animal guys neat i just assumed that pokemon and sonic fans were like "yeah we know our games are mid, but we still love em"
