Beautiful, man! This song is dripping with it! I particularly liked the way you really leaned into the ending of the track, just letting it take the energy where it wanted to naturally go after coming down from the melodic peak. Masterful work. @AstronautDown if you ever see this, do you mix/produce in Logic?
Huh, I just tried to play this on piano and then got some strong _A Glacier Eventually Farts_ vibes (the track that plays in the Void Fields). Another one of my favourites! I wonder if that was just my brain melding them together or if they indeed share motifs
2:08 reminds me of the start of Yu Yu Hakusho's "Struggle Of Sadness" Soundtrack, maybe thats why it feels so powerful to me, my childhood memories convene with this piece of art and create something above music, a sentiment that can't be described and only can be felt by remembering a now distant past
I know I'm a little late to the party, but I went into RoR2 pretty much blind, and when I hit this track I actually had to stop and just listen. This is the only music of any kind (that I remember) that has made me teary-eyed just because it's SO GODDAMN EPIC. Like, I'm not prone to getting emotional, especially over music. But this? This is something really special. I'm going to make sure every single human I ever meet hears this at least twice. They say nothing is perfect, but I think this song might somehow be.
My first time playing Risk of Rain one in any capacity was with this game, and the OST really took me by surprise. I knew to expect good things since I played RoR2 as well, but the moment around 1:40 really brought the tension during the final boss to 11. Very well done!
I just like the fact that almost every other track has a bit of prog to it, even the teleporter music, but this one specifically is just not fucking around at all and immediately gets to the Badass Distorsion Guitar™
I remember reading "Polaris" and "Call of Cthulhu" while having this on the background; and like, it fits WAY too well. Truly an otherworldly experience
25:09 I love how this is described. It reminds Howard Roark from Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead & Rin Tezuka from Katawa Shoujo. Both artistis who had a desire to do art despite limitations presented by society (for Roark) and disability (Rin is a painter without arms). I will always remember this quote: "Some people do art because they like to do it, I do it to breathe" - Rin That's why i admire artistic people. They tend to have a compulsion to express something through a medium and they do it.
Hey Chris, listening to this wondrous album and I'm looking for your usual commentary but i just can't seem to find it on the playlist did you make one for this as well?
No, but we have a pretty lengthy discussion about the making of this which covers music as well. I don't think there's a point in discussing music separately as it was created very much in the context of the text and in parallel to everything else.
Oh my lord this track is stellar, it feels like you are in bad and sad times, but its a journey, there is more to come, that we must continue through the pain and trials. This is definitely my favorite track! Thank you for making this masterpiece
Cannot wait for the release on Spotify. Such a great work. Excellent collaboration, Chris. Keep it up! I hope to see both of you doing more experimental work. It could be interesting to see an application of some experimental genres like folk-rock and folk-electro.
This accords of extreme sadness at 1:13... How pointed out another comment, sounds like a lost battle. That is Simulacrum. A bunch of people, less or more knowing that they are in a trap and knowing that they can do nothing with it, but accept it. They just doomed. Even when Voidling was killed... Does it matter? Who will free them? Only void creatures seemed to be able to interact with void storages. And even if someone will free them... Well, we already have void fiend. Nobody can guarantee that prisoners remained in a better state. So at this point, maybe Simulacrum is a better place for them. At least there they will live, or rather, will be given an illusion of living. (P. S. And yeah, im not good with english and im too lasy to use translator, sorry if there some braindead errors)
chris you've genuinely outdone yourself with the tracks so far, i cannot wait to hear the rest of the tracks. your music has genuinely inspired me to try things in my own, id not thought of prior to listening.
Learning you were doing the music for the expansion was a relief and a burst of joy at the same time. I suspected as much when I heard this track on the new stage in the free update, but I dared not hope. Now I know and am extremely happy to hear more of some of the best video game music to ever exist. Seriously man, you are like Uematsu level to me.
