Great video! KU and Prime Reading really helped me explore a lot of books, despite it having a limited collection in my country (mostly shitty self-help books written by charlatans) - could you tell me what app you used for tracking your reading streak? Cheers!
The kindle app on my phone is where I checked the streak. It syncs your reading in the app or on a kindle as long as the kindle is connected to the internet.
I've used my various Kindles virtually every day since I bought my first Kindle Keyboard 13 years ago almost to the day. Best money I have ever spent. I am using an Oasis now, as it is the only one with side buttons. I like side buttons.
I had a 530 day streak that I was happy to be "freed from" when I lost it for the same reasons you mentioned. I have high volume reading days and days when I barely pick up a book (hello reading slumps!) and I'm also reading more on my device (which doesn't show me streaks) than my phone or tab (unless I'm reading a comic) so I feel like I'm in a better place now. Great video - thanks for sharing!
Glad you had a great reading month! I really enjoyed all the vlogs! I think my favorites this month were A Marvellous Light and Dearest Milton James. I have SO MANY I need to get to in September, I'm scared. 😅 I need to quit applying for ARCs and doing so many readathons. Lol
Yay for more fantasy! Can't wait to see what you're going to pick up next. Although the vlog wasn't boring at all! And I am so inspired to make a rainbow blanket now, yours looks incredible!
Yeah idk on the TJ Klune referencing residential schools - I've seen some indigenous people say it's fine and some say it's offensive so idk. I have it and have read it and loved it. But sometimes I'm not sure if I should? It's hard. However Voyage of the Damned I'm going to read soon and I'm so excited! Sounds right up my alley.
Yeah I’ve seen the same and while I didn’t find anything offensive in my reading of it, it doesn’t mean it wasn’t there. I think the real issue was in how he brought it up in interviews rather than in the content of the book, at least from what I’ve seen.
Oh it's Aardvark! I keep meaning to look at them and keep forgetting. That's so exciting!! I can't wait to read The Truth According to Ember. Going to have to check out Aardvark, thank you!
I really enjoyed Tress of the Emerald Sea, it was really cute! I haven't read the rest of these but they sound interesting! I know my best friend loved Atlas Six but HATED the third book in that trilogy (Atlas Complex, I think?), which was sad. Really messed up the rest of the trilogy for her.
You’ve definitely sold me on This Ravenous Fate. Even though I’m not a huge fan of YA fantasy 😂 I hope you’re having fun doing other hobbies while you’re making it through the reading slump
Almost choked on my wine with these tier ranking titles. So good! Also… I subscribed today on another video! Lastly, have you read or plan to read the other books in Meghan Quinn hockey series? I read the first three. Hoping to read the last two soon 🏒
I plan to but haven’t yet! I’m at the end of what I’ve been affectionately calling ARC-palooza because I requested too many for the same 6 week period but that’s almost over and then I can read whatever!
A reading break is definitely needed sometimes. I find I read more if I let myself take breaks. I may need a break soon, feeling kind of sluggish and like nothing sounds good.
You can highlight and take notes now, but if you mean in the margins, yeah I’d love that! I am excited for the day we see a color option. I’m hoping for a smoother screen look than the one Kobo came out with. The grain on it is too high and is hard to look at in my opinion.
I'm super late watching this one, sorry! I can't get over how politely your pupper is sitting and listening to you so intently on the couch. 😂 Adorable. Falling back on favorites to rot on the couch is so relatable.
No I’ve never done a paid review before. I think that kinda defeats the purpose of an honest review. I know some folks who have transitioned from doing bookstagram to paid review positions for companies/online review sites, but not ones who do it through bookstagram if that makes sense.
Omg! I'm not alone :D I'm in a huge reading slump as well :D to the point that there's no much to vlog about, I read maybe a page a day! Also, great video! I'm happy I found your channel 🤗
You're so not alone! I'm trying to fight a slump right now by using audiobooks instead. It's kinda helping, but I feel like I'm just delaying the inevitable.
I have used mine for years and I read almost every day because I love it (not as a challenge). Like you I use kindle unlimited as well a lot but recently I have come to realize that I am missing something if I only read on my kindle. Have you had this experience too? I like the romances and some of the fantasies but somehow I haven't read a lot of "5 star -this is fantastic it will stay with me for years" through KU. These have mostly come from my bookshelves for some reason.
Yes and no. I think because I don’t exclusively use KU to read on my kindle. I get books via Libby too and have had 5 star experiences from both places. There are genres that I tend to only via audiobook though so if I stopped doing that I would definitely feel the same way.
It must be ARC season! I have 4 right now which is more than I've gotten all year. Lol I'm a sucker for romance so would love to know how the flying one goes. Also I Might be in Trouble seems funny!
I think I might pair the August romance ones in one video together and then the September ones in another. Frequent Fliers seems like it’s gonna be really cute
So cool that you received all those books! Devil is fine sounds like a book I would read. I will await your review of it before I add it to my never ending TBR. In the meantime, happy reading!
Love what you said about DNF. It does make it a lot easier to DNF keeping in mind it doesn't have to be forever. But I have noticed on the times I do make it back to finish a DNF book- I was usually right in the first place to DNF. It has been rare I actually enjoyed reading a book a previously had decided to DNF. I love that you are quick to DNF now. I think it's an important skill to have in order to avoid reading slumps.
So thanks to the StoryGraph's custom facts I was able to figure this out! From July 29, 2023 to July 29, 2024 I read 191 books and 25 or 26 of them weren't on kindle. Everything else was!
The kobo system does exactly the thing you wish the kindle ecosystem did with deleting things off your device but still being online! Also just fyi the grain is a feature of the color screen, not of kobos overall, just in case you do ever want to switch. Your kindle decal is so cute!
Ahh that’s good to know. If I didn’t read so many indie authors on KU, it would be really easy to switch, but it’s just not. If I did switch, the color one is what I’d be looking at. I wonder if it’s possible to adjust the grain situation. It was pretty stark in the side by side I saw.
@@AdventuresInPages unfortunately I don’t think so, I had the same question, but it’s just the limits of the color technology right now, but hopefully in the future it will improve!
I adore my Paperwhite. It's one of the best purchases I've made for myself. It's so much easier on my eyes and hands. I also love that so many books can come everywhere with me.
