I am a former Air Force meteorologist, and author of the famous field guide "Storm Chasing Handbook". I currently write a monthly feature article for Weatherwise and IFR magazines. I also developed the Digital Atmosphere forecast program.
Kinda hard to cover the whole country in less than 20 minutes, plus the useful extras (e.g., bulk shear and dust in the hurricane region) you include from time to time. I have no problem with the length of your videos, keep it coming!. Enjoy your week off! Thanks.
Crazy, crazy shit! Flew Gulf War Buff sorties with the 801st BW(P) out of Moron AB, Spain. Never faced anything like that much SAM and AAA shit, thank Christ, but then again, we didn’t get in until a week or two after the thing started. Don’t recall nearly as much radio chatter on missions, but, then, it was almost 35 years ago! I say again: Crazy, crazy shit! Over!
When in grad school at MSU some 45 years ago I learned much about jet stream meteorology in my synoptic climatology course and advanced regional climatogy studies. It is good to see the 500mb analyses again. Thank you. PS I stumbled upon your channel by sheer coincidence. So good, I just had to subscribe. :)
During WW2, North African dust kicked up by the Afrika Korps/Allies conflict was blown across the Atlantic by tropical easterlies, The dust was subsequently observed in the Western Hemisphere.
Tim, I think one of the best parts of your videos IS the long-form analysis; I know you are concerned about video length and it may bore folks, but I think - and I may be way-off - most of us want that level of analysis and understand the "hows" and "whys" of weather patterns. You do a great job of educating of what is, or about to, happen weatherwise and I find these videos very informative.
Thank you Tim! Yes, HOT across all of California. Here at my location we have had the hottest period i have ever seen with over 100* for many of the past two weeks. Topping at 104* which I have never seen before here at 4600'. Have a good night and thank you for the great weather overview for the next week.
Thank you Tim! I think one part of your videos is the weather outlook and breakdown across the CONUS. The graphics you use are clear and your interpatation is clear. My Aunt and Uncle live in Streator Ill. Last night as you forecast, a MCS with numerous tornadoes reported moved through their area and on to O'Hare I.A. I was talking to them when the sirens went off sending them to the storm cellar. Thank you for your heads up on that weather forecast.
Love the way you do regional analysis. You do a slick job of weaving satellite and different charts so that I get a sense of the mechanisms at play throughout the depth of the atmosphere. When you queried us on the video, I was, at the moment, thinking about how much I learn by this type of teaching on the regional tour! Thanks Tim🙋♂
Love the regional analysis. It's fun to take a meteorological trip around North America, and sometimes the world to augment/combine with/trigger memories of having been in all 50 states, half the provinces of Canada, and some countries in Europe. Your geographic literacy is a marvel and I love the ride you take us all on, whether in the lower 48 or anywhere else in the world that grabs your attention. Though I will say I'm not a fan of using time to show the hottest and coldest spots on earth. I Global mins and maxes are too easy. IMHO time is much better spent looking at interesting things that catch your eye, such as a dust storm here, a pyrocumulus cloud there, dust from Africa moving west across the Atlantic, you name it. Whatever the case, your sharp eyed and mind on full and wide alert, ranging here, there and everywhere, is more than one could ask for. Which is why I am a happy Patreon contributor!
Greetings Tim, Thanx for the usual excellent video. We're getting continuous thunder and moderate rain in Madison. I think the bulk of the energy is passing south of us. I do like the detailed regional analyses.
At [4:30] there is a satellite loop of a beautiful classic large clockwise rotation over the Southwest, yet at [5:30] the map shows several low pressure systems. I am confused.
Hi Jon, great question. The clockwise circulation is the convective cloud debris in the mid and upper levels being carried by the mid/upper level anticyclone (the upper level high). The low pressure centers are the thermal lows, which are very shallow in depth and are confined to roughly below 5000-10,000 ft. (below 700 mb).
I was reminiscing about my trip out there 30 years ago this summer. I loved every bit of it, especially getting away from the awful Texas heat. Thankfully it's not been so bad this year.
Thank you Seems very humid with clouds here in Palmdale, Ca High Desert. Was having dry heat all week and this came out of nowhere or maybe just a small localized thing.
Looking at marginal risk for wind here in S AZ thanks to some upper air phenomena. Hardly any lightning strikes this season. Looking forward to next surge! Thanks Tim!
Thumbs up from me 👍 Thanks Tim really enjoyable Whilst eating my lunch today. I really couldn't deal with that heat 🥵 🔥😮 Thanks to Greg for the great closing footage 👍 Take care
Thanks Tim for another great analysis! I will follow Beryl to landfall, as i have tracked her all the way. How do people live with those crazy hot temperatures 🔥🥵 in the UK its cool and showery due to a active Jet. Thanks again and to Greg for the closing footage 👍 Have a great weekend 😊
