Welcome to Michelle's Epic She who dares wins channel. After 17 years in the construction industry I decided to down tools and embark on a career as a podcaster and business owner. The goal is to build the biggest community to help inspire and empower women. I want to dare all women to WIN.
Join me for crazy dares, Vlogs and behind the scenes as I build this brand from the ground up!
Hey. I have a question. I make promotional videos for businesses, people selling warehouse, that kind of thing. I wouldn’t fly over crowds of people. My drone is a mini. It sounds like a A2 CofC would allow me to do this legally. But would I also need to obtain a PfCO? Thanks in advance for the help.
Awesome video Michelle, funnily enough I have just left the construction industry myself Most likely due to similar reasons to yourself. Just wanted to say all the best for the future and you’ll smash it! 🫡
What a shame we still have such unwelcoming cultures for women in so many insdutries. Loved what you shared and I'm happy to know you're moving on to something you´re passionate about. Cheers!
Ah thanks Vicky, Yeah its a such as shame the industry hasn't moved on and I can only hope it does for the next generation :) Glad you have you around!
I totally agree that construction is way behind in so many ways starting with the massive divide between architects and builders. Lean construction is a good idea but not easy to implement. It is also sad that construction workers generally are not valued. Plumbers, for example, have contributed more to the increase in life expectancy than doctors have over the past 100 years, yet they are routinely disparaged (midwifery (nurses) is the other profession that has done most to decrease child mortality). It is a strange world where lawyers charge ~£300 per hour for browsing papers in an air conditioned office while engineers, who make that office stand up are lucky to get 10% of that.
I'm a bricklayer in London and what you say about what the big contractors say and what they actually do when it comes to combatting toxic cultures and bullying is absolutely spot on. It's just window dressing, hence why I do whatever possible to stay away from large commercial building sites.
@@SheWhoDaresWins It's actually really cringe after you've gone through the online induction where the main contractor showcases their alleged commitment to combatting said cultures and it all goes out the window once your boots are on the ground/scaffold. I only work for big subbies when I'm desperate.
I’ve just discovered your channel and you gave me motivation when the new season after holidays started. Thank you very much, I used your videos for company when working alone and stressed out.. good luck doing your passion. I believe it suits you very much. Maybe one day I will also discover a new passion like you did!
Ah thank you! I’m glad you found me and I’m so happy to help in any way I did. Keep going and I’m here if you need or have any questions! Thanks for your support 🙏
Best of luck Michelle in your new venture! I am in my forties now and have worked in construction since the late 90's so can fully understand the way you feel. I got out of the game a couple years ago a bit less money but its less stress now, nicer colleagues & just 40 hours. Leave it to the younger guys! I always enjoyed your videos x
Ah nice! I’m in good company then! I think you are right it’s a young persons game. Such a shame though as it really taught me a lot over the years as I’m sure it did to you!
Many thanks for the video, I want to get qualifications as a backup to the risk of redundancy in the 9-5 world. Your "cheeky discount" code does not seem to be valid, did it expire? Thanks
Thanks for the vid. Wondering how you work with the sharing features in DD. I know the standard subscriptions only allow you to share view-only links. Did you go for the enterprise subscriptions allow your clients to interact with your projects rather than just viewing. I’m trying to figure out how you would price up. With a view-only link do you give them access to that link forever? And if you’re on the enterprise plan how much extra would you add on to a job to enable them full access. I believe the enterprise plans are over £400/m more and you also need to pay an additional £1k per project shared. So the cost of a client being able to interact rather than view-only must need to be priced different? Wondering how you play it. Thanks.
Hey great question. You defo have to charge the client for access so you don’t end up getting stung for the cost of enterprise. I normally offer them a year price and the they have to re pay after the year if they want to keep it. Some do and some don’t
Im a woman and have always wanted to weld. Considering school or apprentice. Im scared though, that I'll lose interest. I have ADHD and am slightly autistic. Very intelligent but, have that ADHD ability to hyper focus and learn anything fast that Im really interested in, the lose interest just as fast once Ive learned how to make what I want. I have an awesome little off roading Toyota Tacoma. There are several things I want to weld for it. It's what has me hyper focusing on welding again. I really do need a lucrative career too, not just a hobby to make my personal projects more affordable. So idk what to do. Apprenticeship seems like the logical choice. But it would have to be at my own pace. While I do learn things quickly when im interested, I have a bad back, which slows me down, and the ADHD and autism means I only learn a certain way. That means I have to find somebody willing to teach me, and do it just how I need them to do it. It seems like a lot to ask. So anyway, I have a lot of anxiety about taking this risk. Wish I could find somebody compatible to learn from. Im most interested in TIG welding just because the camper I want to build for my taco, must be super lightweight. I could go into business just building campers for tacos. Ither people are doing it, but not how I would do it. There isn't ANYBODY out there building ultra lightweight campers the way Id make them.
Hey I think it sounds like an ace idea. I have adhd too! And I don’t think you can guess where it will lead, I would pursue it and see what happens! I’m excited for you. If anything you’ll learn some new skills! Let me know how you get on :)
Hi I have a question, which I know is unusual, and not applicable to all, but I have a good use case to fly heavier drones sub 2kg in built up areas, even if it needs to be in low speed mode, but haven't managed to find the info or if there is any certification to make it legal to do that. I know I can use a smaller drone, but they are limited, and my use would be alternative to a camera on a crane which takes time to set up, take down, ect. I'd also be able to take footage from above, though wouldn't need to go up more than 20 meters. Is there anything out there I could do to allow it?
If looking to do drone shots for people's weddings or private events as a side business using a sub 250g drone, will just the A2cofC do or do you have to have do the GVC too?
Yes I believe acofc will be fine, just be careful with crowds there’s a few wedding crashes where people (drone pilots) have been sued for bad accidents. Maybe clue up on your insurance
@@SheWhoDaresWins I've since got the A2 CofC and have the insurance. Yes you are correct about being careful flying over gathered people at a wedding or event. If they're uninvolved then it's a definite no no.
Madam, I have more than 24 years of experience in setting out and land survey fields including 15 years of gulf experience in the oil & gas field. Can you suggest to me about new projects and companies which are hiring people. CSCS card how much time to get? How can I apply?
Madam, Do you know about the Hinkley power plant project. I have more than 24 years experience in setting out jobs including 15 years of gulf experience in setting out
Checked out other shorts and videos. Like the way you think. Please push this channel forward. We sadly live in a time were the wrong people have influence. I hope this will change eventually.
Ordered mine yesterday, will be here tomorrow 😊 I’m going to join fpvuk for the benefit of insurance and article 16, to give me a little flexibility. Bit of a bummer that I live slap bang in the middle of Salisbury plain restricted airspace but won’t have to travel too far to be in the clear. Great video btw 👍🏻
if anyone is looking to buy a dji avata 2 kit for £200 cheaper than the retail price, please reply to this comment and get in contact with me. i'm trying to sell mine because i hardly ever use it, it's genuinely amazing value and in mint condition, so just let me know.
Hello , I am a structural engineer and I work sometimes in civil 3d to import surveying points and produce some proposed topography , I got interested in surveying but my question is , do you believe it is useful to get chartered if you have your own business ? and how do you think AI will affect surveying , thanks
Hey! I don’t think you need to be chartered unless you grow your business and start tendering for large government jobs. Oh great question about Ai I have a video on that coming soon
@@SheWhoDaresWinsbanned from the USA and the government. As of right now they will not be able to be sold if the ban bill passes and the president signs it then no dji drones will be able to be sold. They could ban flying them too but as of right now the only thing that would happen if it passes is dji not be able to sell drones anymore. 😢
Great video! Ive enjoyed watching your work on youtube. Ckear and simple diwn to earth. Music audio level on this video was just right. For me anyways. You didnt mention the use of lidar for vfx industries 😢
My avata2 can't fly far 300m to 600m then rth I can't open any files in 4k TV or computer only 1080p on tv nothing on windows my 8 year old phantom 3pro out performs the avata in almost everyway, They won't return it either I have to send it in after only 1 week.
Do construction work first in the field for at least 10 years - so you know what your talking about ! Us veteran construction workers are always teaching you college kids how to do your jobs !
Watch out folks that want to buy Avavta 2.. Only if you own one of a limited number of phone models will you be able to download and use the DJI Fly App and therefore you will not be able to set it up... I'm returning an Avata 2 I just bought due to this.
@@Gusfffffffffgggg - the point is that you should be able to do this from a laptop.. go ahead and think you are better than other people because you own phone X.. congratulations -
