On each episode of this music podcast ONE SONG, friends Diallo Riddle ( Emmy-nominated star and creator of HBO Max’s South Side and IFC’s Sherman’s Showcase) and Blake "LUXXURY" Robin (Music Producer & TikTok creator) will hilariously break down ONE SONG from the pop music canon that you know - or need to know - but have never heard quite like this.
45:00 There is not just a metal connection with the galloping baseline: there is a great cover of Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie by the Swedish great, Yngwie Malmsteen: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lySTsopypL0.htmlsi=dA5Dm-hMSmwrmtMz Edit: The guys play it later in the episode. ZOMG I should have waited to listen to the whole thing before commenting!
Speaking as a norwegian being envious and in the same time in awe of swedish pop production since ABBA, please do not take Röyksopp away from us!!! We do not have much international acclaimed music besides a-ha, so please...
You guys rock (generic - so as not to offend sub genres 😂), a great song and an unreal breakdown. Love you passion. Also - Diallo’s one song at the end is epic - a much underrated hip hop / r&b album ‘The Magnificent’
Hi guys, Italian listener here. Can you please add the subtitles? It is not always easy to understand everything that you say, especially when you are talking about the technical side of the music. You are amazing, and I want to understand and appreciate every word! Thank you! Ps. I wanted to hear more about the covers or sample of the song 😢
Shout out to Other Music! I loved that shop. I used to got there on my lunch break every paycheck and go on a little buying spree. Usually 4 or 5 albums. And I always made sure I would buy something that I didn't know based only on the cover art. I found all kinds of amazing music that I never would have encountered that way. Senor Coconut was probably my best discovery using that method. I still listen to them today.
By far my favorite podcast I listen to all the #1s but by a mile this podcast lets me and my father have something great to talk about. Thank you for making life so much better
I would really like to hear what you guys have to say about Heavy D's "Is it good to you" or anything off the Peaceful Journey album. This album and Blue Funk were really under-rated.
I agree. As a gay man, this song had nothing to do with spanning over cultures. This was a song written for a woman, as all their songs were. The disco songs were written to get into the American market.
They don’t talk about the reason Al Green turned to gospel music and became a minister. An incident in a hotel room where he was severely injured. A woman I know went to one of his gospel shows said the women were reacting to him the same way they did when he was singing secular music-minus tossing underwear with phone numbers on stage.
Billy lost all credibility, long before his conservative stint, by saying “no one falls in love to pavement” a sad petty man with a handful of amazing songs but jfc u were wrong about that one
thats my favorite Elvis song! close to the gallop but slightly different, for one thing it swings more (as does most early rock n roll) than a "pure" gallop, whatever that means lol; but i hear what you hear, it has a similar "space" after the one followed by 2 and then 3 16ths, very Eddie Cochrane...all these rhythms are definitely in the same family!
@@LUXXURY Oh I can certainly hear the different beats and swings (you wanna dance to one, and air strum to the other) but I like this idea of an indirect connection between EP/Leiber&Stoller and Heart, with these rhythmic signatures that make the songs recognizable through the thickest walls!
