Ummm, sorry, but whoever told you that at GC is terribly misinformed. Bone pins, usually made from cattle, are widely available. Check Reverb.com And thanks for watching 🙏🎸😎
I HAD A MARTIN D-15, THIS IS A NITRO LOOK IT UP, I JUST BOUGHT ONE FROM SWEETWATER, THE MARTIN D-215 MAHOGANY DOES NOT COMPARE TO THIS GUITAR, BOUGHT WIILY COYOTE TRUSS ROD COVER, THX BRO, GOD BLESS, BE WELL, JOE!!!!, GUILD MAKES THE BEST ACOUSTICS IN THE WORLD PERIOD, I AM A VIETNAM ERA DISABLED VET, GOD BLESS, BE WELL, JOE!!!!!
Hi Joseph, first - thank you for your service. ❤️🙏. So here’s the deal with the finish on mine. California was giving Guild a hard time about spraying nitro when they first opened out there a few years ago. So they used this varnish rub. They’ve since switched to nitro, having obtained their permits. I love Guilds - check out my D55 video if you get a chance. Glad you liked Wile E Coyote. He rocks! Thanks so much for watching, God Bless 🙏🎸😎
I would never buy a guitar withOUT a pickup. Cmon man! Hate the double guard. Nope. I would bring this out to shows all the time. They are made to be played, and it's not even a Guild! We are on opposite sides of the fence here. And btw, I own this same guitar. Bought it 2 months ago. LOVE wine red!
Yeah, you make some strong points. The RU-vid community talked me off the ledge on the whole double guard thing 😆. And I do have to say, these Anthem pickups are pretty great. But it still hasn’t gotten its first scratch or ding yet, so I can’t talk myself into taking it on a gig yet. Thanks for watching, glad you love yours as much as I do. 💪🎸🙏😎
It already has, no one is buying, it's definitely a buyers market, and as the economy continues to crash, you can bet that the guitar market will have a lot of investors losing there arse, nobody has disposable income like we did a few years ago, I don't feel bad having to hold on to a chit load of budget guitars, and although it would be nice to sale one so I can buy one, I will most likely just keep buying, maybe just high end guitars this time around.
So here's the thing... During Covid the market got flooded with new guitar purchases by new aspiringplayers, deciding "This is a good time to learn the guitar" ... 99% of them bought the $1400 and cheaper import and entry level USA stuff... Throw into the mix, inflation hit, and the supply /demand curve was taxed by the increase in demand... so those "cheap" guitars were highly inflated.. What wasn't inflated that much? The $8000, $10000 and $20000 guitars made in extremely limited numbers and bought by people who are immune to inflation and price increases .. If you want to sell a guitar fast, list a hard to find Gibson '59 Reissue with a 5A Quilted top ... but if you're selling yet another $2999 Les Paul Standard ... or worse yet, Epiphone, you're going to have to slash prices to compete with the tons of brand new inventory and used inventory.
Thank you! I had never heard Summer Wages, but just listened to it. What a great song! That pedal steel is amazing! It may be out of my league, but I’m going to try and learn it. Thanks for introducing it to me! 🙏🎸😎
Hello Paul, Randy showed these guitars sometime ago love the looks of the blonde one and to my ear it has we bit softer tone but it be hard to pick both sound great and your playing skills are great as well and do I dare buy another guitar lol good job thanks! :-))))))
Thanks Kathy! I’m much better at buying guitars than playing them 😆 I was thinking of selling one of my J200’s, but they’re all just too lovely Thanks for watching! 🙏🎸😎
I hate these kind of shootout vids. Putting a tux on a turd doesnt hide the cheap smell. I collect real Gibson for many reasons. its much more than just the look.
I JUST BOUGHT ONE FROM SWEETWATER, CANNOT WAIT TO GET IT, HAD IT PLEXT AND BONE PINS, MAN DOES THAT SOUND GOOD, BUT IT IS A NITRO FINISH....LOOK IT UP, I HAD A MARTIN D-15 ALL MAHOGANY, GOT RID OF IT, GUILD DESROYED THE MARTIN, THX , GRAT VIDEO, LOOK UP FINISH IT IS A NITRO, BOUGH WILDLY KOYOTE TRUUS ROD COVE BECAUSE OF YOU THX, HE MAKES GREAT STUFF, THX, GOD BLESS, STAY SAFE, JOE!!!!
Thanks brother! It’s a 2011, and they wanted $2799. But, as I tried to explain to the salesman, it’s going to need a neck reset. He didn’t understand what I was talking about
I've owned 18 guitars. 9 were new and 9 were used. However I've never paid more than $600.00 even for the Fender or Gibson models I've owned. When I bought them it was back in the early 1970's. Some were under $400.00 new. The others were most recent purchases were new and under $600.00. Most of the guitars were between $350.00 and $400.00. If you know where to look and are patient you can find deals if you are looking for specific models.
@@BrianBrazilHarmonica sounds like you’re a very savvy guitar shopper! When I was a kid, my brothers were always buying and selling good Gibson’s and Fenders for 4-500 hundred. Ah, those were the days! Thanks for watching. 🎸🙏😎
I've been calling a guitar crash for the better part of 2 decades. It's inevitable. Fewer new players, aging players needing to liquidate, and a daily overproduction by manufacturers competing against their own used inventory already in the market. I'm just surprised it's taken this long to play out.
I think the Covid production gap delayed it by a few years. Demand went way up, and factories were closed for at least 2 years. But yes, this was inevitable.
Good video! New guitars have been too expensive for me for a long time. The used market has some beautiful instruments and as you pointed out, you can often save up to 40% or more if you find a used guitar that you like. The fringe benefit is, if you decide to sell at a future time, you can recoup most of your money and often sell for a profit.
@@rosewoodsteel6656 thanks very much!! I agree with you. I look at the current guitar market the same way I’ve always looked at the car market. Buy used, and let someone else take the depreciation hit!! Thanks for watching 🙏🎸😎
Inflation is caused by devaluing the dollar. If printing presses are running day and night and the dollar is not pegged to a standard, such as silver, the dollar is worth less and will therefore buy less.
Brother Paul, I thought the thermally aged had a sweeter tone. I love the depth that these 200’s have. Both were tone monsters, for sure. Great playing! I’m not going to kick either one out of the house, brother man 👍🏻
Thanks Brother Randy! I’ll quote the brilliant Greg Lake: “I could never sell them, because they’re just too lovely. I never tire of them”. 😆🎸🙏 I appreciate your support!
Super Jumbos not for fingerpicking???.Somebody has clearly never listened to Michael Chapman's 'Naked Ladies And Electric Ragtime'.Didn't Ray Whitley's SJ 200 see the light of day in 1937?.I've had(and still own)J200s since 1972 including 3 Bozeman models. My Guild F50R(made in New Hartford)would eat them for breakfast according to not only me but a former Taylor and Larrivee clinician and demonstrator.I've got a slightly smaller rosewood GAD and a maple 17" Farida J66.Many years ago a guy was selling a '54 J200 and said a buyer would be in laminated body territory if they opted for a '55.I wonder if that was the situation down the years before a return to solid wood at the tail end of Nashville production and Bozeman models?.I heard that Gibson went with laminated though more expensive due to worries re structural integrity on a big guitar.Don't like the Epiclones though.
A friend of mine here in West Sussex (Southern England - UK) has one of these and I have to say I'm very impressed with it. The build quality is great, and unlike so many Les Pauls or Gibson LP copies, it's not too heavy. The neck and fretboard are great, it's very comfortable to play, and TBH I wish it were mine..! My guess is that it was made in Japan, partly because of the much lighter than usual weight, aprtly because of the super-high build quality.
Thanks, I continue to be impressed with the build quality of this guitar, and I’m so glad I found this at Notoms on Denmark Street. It’s a better guitar than a recent Gibson P90 gold top I owned. Thanks for watching! Cheers! 🥂
You empathize with the people building them, but, take my money! Haha, well they took mine also. Whoever trained the children to build them, did a good job. I've gotten the SG so far with a 338 on order currently. The SG is incredible as well.
Wonder what will happen to boutique builders? Their cost has risen significantly. I bought a used Bourgeois this year for $4700 and a new one cost 13k.
Good question. Wow, that’s a massive price increase! I haven’t been following the boutique market for quite a while. Well, I guess they may decide to build less guitars for more money. But I can’t imagine they’re good investments at those prices. Thanks for watching! 🙏🎸😎
I just bought a new Guild USA M20.. which the does not have the deep dread sound… because it’s the 00 version of what you have..but it still sounds rich. I love it.
I ain’t wasting time no more, cause life goes by like a hurricane. Bits of a song that resonates with us, for sure. A beautiful song, Paul. You’re more than welcome for myself being part of the now 500+ subscribers. As far as I’m concerned, time well spent just to get to know such a fine man who’s become like a brother to me. You’re the one that got me interested in the 200 to begin with and at some point one will end up in east Texas with me. A really great review, my friend. Now, how about a comparison between the red wine and the sunburst? I would guess that the aged top on this one is louder that the standard, but I’d sure like to hear it. By the way, Maryanne was always my girl 👍🏻
Brother Randy, your friendship and support has been my biggest inspiration for the channel, and it’s the best thing that’s come from this endeavor for me! I’m really glad you enjoyed this one, and let’s not waste time no more. We’ll find you the right 200 when the time is right. Looking forward to our next conversation. Maryanne all the way ! 😆🎸❤️
Lovely tone, such a roaring bass and chimy treble! I wonder if the tone will become mellower over time. Would love if it did to some extent. That's definitely a grand piano, I don't think the wine red is standing a chance!😁 Is it pickup-free? That's definitely a bonus for this guitar's tone! Lovely grain as well, I think tighter than most Adirondack. The 2 block bridge might not look as good but it's just a better design. Bridge holes should be closer to the saddle for optimal break angle. If they're far away, the angle is too shallow, and with inlay between the pin hole and the saddle you're kind of prohibited to ramp the bridge, which is a real shame. I understand a guitar can sound great even despite suboptimal construction, but when it's a guitar as expensive as J-200 it would really pain me to look at the bridge and constantly realise that the guitar's crucial part was robbed of its potential. Not saying that to put you down, I love the moustache bridge even though it's not an optimal design either, just a bit of geekness.🤓
Oh man, I understand that "in the back of my mind I always wanted a different thing". That's exactly why I ordered the new all-solid natural maple Epiphone SJ-200, I always wanted THAT. Thank you VERY MUCH for mentioning my review in the description, I greatly appreciate it!
Why do people always talk about resale value? Who buys guitars just to sell them? I just don’t understand. I have 31 guitars and I could get a crap about what their resale values are. Maybe some of you buys guitars just to sell but it just doesn’t make any sense at all to me. Just don’t buy the guitar.
We each have our reasons for buying and selling. One reason is that in today’s guitar- buying process, it’s nearly impossible to try a guitar you’re interested in at a store. Sometimes you have to buy it to try it. Maybe you like it, maybe you don’t. Another reason is for people like myself who may want a particular sound for a track, but don’t necessarily want to keep it beyond that point. To each his or her own. Thanks for watching!
In 1989 I purchased a new Gibson Les Paul Custom and a new PRS CE 24 Custom and when I was purchasing my first house I tried to sell them to help with my down payment 🫤 I couldn’t get more than $500 each both being in excellent condition 🫤 losing money on guitars is nothing new !
From the UK here, I have listed three guitars One Gibson, One Fender and a Kramer. Three to four times all low priced for what they are. No buyers. 1 silly offer for the Gibson that's it. That was on Ebay.
Well they arent that close. The guild is kind of tight/stiff sounding and has less detail/overtones. The gibson is simply a prettier sounding guitar. It sounded like a piano with a ton of bass. The songs sounded better on the gibson.
I think I like the fullness and sound of this Gretsch better than the recent Reverend 12-strings, which do look very cool. They just don’t seem to ring like a 12-string should.
Actually, there is a model SGJA- SG200 which is all solid The GJA-SG200, which is what I’ve reviewed, is a laminate back and sides. I appreciate you watching, and for your comment 🎸😎
