Du Glücklicher, ich bin auch 1951 geboren, hab mit 17 Jahren geträumt Grateful Dead, Quicksilver M.., Love und viele andere mal zu sehen, das Glück war mir nie hold.
I've been a guitar nut for over 50 years. Loved this guy for so long. Loved Happy Trails lp, so good. Cobra, Fresh Air too. Heard about his Copperhead record, and bought it right away. But, it didn't blow me away. Then John kinda dropped outa sight. Some great guitarists have patchy careers. Like other faves of mine Chris Spedding, Mick Taylor, Snowy White. Now you see em', now you don't. Shame. Thank goodness for RU-vid. Bless John.
Words cannot describe this unique performance! All of that and 2 drummers, there is no doubt that the band is trippin hard and right on time with each other thus making this a masterpiece
What helped make Hot Tuna great was that they remained underground instead selling out for commercialism. They played what they wanted instead of being told what to play.
Long time cowboy movie actor Jack Elam in the video. Could be Neil and Jerry on lead guitar. Neil definitely here, maybe eith Jerry in the spots where you here two leads doing Neil like tone and lines. Jerry liked to play off others and could be a tip of the hat to Neil. Somebody should ask Neil about it, or Jorma. Not out of Jorma's Airplane realm either.
Quicksilver had it all, the compositions, chops galore, vocals covered, and fully realized in the ‘concept’ album: Just For Love. Copyright disputes and distribution questions led to some fractious sessions. Valenti was composing hits and continued a mostly solo path. Their live dates were recorded (if you can call it that) and rushed into print. Spotty recording, mixing, mastering plagued those releases. Band came to full flower (power) with addition of Nicky Hopkins on keys. Who also wrote some excellent tunes. Stones wooed Hopkins into their band and the letdown (both in Stones AND Quicksilver) of producers and agents ‘raiding’ the group siphoning talent spun them out. Some fabulous tracks laid by the band in their time. Cipollina, Valenti, Duncan and Hopkins formed core of all-time greatest acid band. And that absolutely includes Dead and Airplane. Distribution and promotion was sorely lacking, in addition to the pressured break-up.
Love the song, the band and this post BUT I can't help wondering who the hippy chick is dancing in the robe and what ever happened to her. I imagine she ended up strung out on drugs and sadly died an early death. Hope to god I'm wrong.
