O'Regan and now Wilkinson have come across far too long as Fossil Fuel advocates. Years of delays to targets, policies, and incentives? No problem! Natural gas for hydrogen!? Talk about a FF alert! No doubt Wilkinson is a bright chap; he is smooth distracting from tough points the panel posed.

Transporting hydrogen long distances makes absolutely no sense. I've seen numbers that at best 20% of the energy input required to produce the hydrogen ends up as an output at its final destination. The economics just dont make sense unless there is a massive amount of public money going into this. Canada would end up losing money to sell hydrogen. The companies that are involved might do alright though. One of the companies involved has a CEO that is very politically connected though. I know they are talking about making ammonia but the problem with that is you cant just shut off the process if there is not enough wind. You end up destroying the catalyst in the reactor.

You didn't put the link to the UM study which showed that 15% of Americans do not think climate change is real. Regardless, I find that actually encouraging, because it means a bigger fraction of Americans believe climate change is real than the fraction accepting that evolution is real. That is, there are move evolution-deniers in the US than climate change deniers.

Electrolytic Hydrogen used in reducing metal ores all powered by holographic nucleation energy management Circuitry is the obvious heat and light Electrification use application. Ask Simon Michaux about Microwaves. I've heard about lots of unpublished research alluded to over the years, and you can guess why, if EVs are a problem, Dark Money is another and inverted-reverse logic seems to be the norm, why the world is "going to hell in a handbasket". It seems that if you attempt to make money from the techniques/technology implied in our shared holographic positioning nucleation ecology, "life is short", pulse-evolution operates at higher frequency-amplitude. Wars are failure to "know your Self". The accumulation of intelligence suited to coordination-identification of cooperative integration and defense of holistic metastability, is the logical solution in Totality.

CO2 from burning of fossil fuels do not cause catastrophic warming of the troposphere. The troposphere is already opaque to most infrared light due to water vapor. Adding tiny amounts more to CO2 concentration will not make the troposphere more opaque. Its already opaque at like 20 meters.
@TheDanEdwards
@TheDanEdwards 2 месяца назад
" Adding tiny amounts more to CO2 concentration will not make the troposphere more opaque." - false. First, increasing a gas in the atmosphere by 1.5x is not "tiny". Additionally, you ignore that CO2 is well mixed in the atmospheric column, compared to water which precipitates out quickly with altitude. Furthermore, you have no explanation for the warming we see on record.

@@kayakMike1000 That is not what is contested here ... what is contested is the inane idea that shale plays, oil sands developments and expansion along with a plethora of other offshore fields were merely exploited (or explored) because a couple of engineers suggested bankers lend them hundreds of billions to showcase their technical prowess or something ... but absolutely not because geological constraints were materializing on the horizon, pretty damn near spot on where they were predicted to materialize (...) Sure buddy ... sure. ... because of course that would lead to questioning the dumbed down information we were being fed and the resource allocation model that governs us since WW2 which makes some people a little too uncomfortable ... Well currently Alberta only gets under 10% of its energy from renewables. So there is clearly work to do. The impact to bring this number up will mean lots more fields of solar panels that need to be replaced every 5 years. How to “recycle “ these huh?

So I'm decidedly on the Ontario Decouple channel that has reviewed the Nuclear Power Generation system there, note that the series of boutique hand built designs have resulted in a stage of readiness for next level faster to build cheaper designs, and just as with EVs those first machines are up in the luxury range by cost, but down in dirt cheap effective and efficient in long-term practicality. Toxic politics are the primary obstacle.

Listening to folks who’ve fully bought into this idiocy, and just want to hammer the details out, is like listening to someone talk about how we are running out of oxygen and we need to tax those who don’t use a rebreather that changes the mixture of air to be 2% more nitrogen. A lot of cost and inconvenience to solve a fake problem that conspiracy theorists believe is real.

They won’t last anyway, only long enough to destabilize the climate enough to make mad max look like a playground. Which means ending carbon energy in a fair and orderly fashion, as soon as possible, is a far better option than waiting as long as possible and suffering a disorderly end into an uninhabitable planet.

Iss this true ? Is Ford losing $36,000 per EV? "Ford lost an estimated $36,000 on each of the 36,000 EVs it delivered to dealers in the third quarter, the company said in October, after announcing earlier it would slow the ramp-up of money-losing EVs, shifting investment to Ford's commercial vehicle unit and citing plans to quadruple sales of gas-electric hybrids. " How can this be? I don't understand.

To the extent we are trying to see into the future of energy and oil sands role in that future, I think it would be helpful to discuss the long-term outlooks of the Energy Information Agency and the Canadian Energy Regulator. CER's outlook last year, for example, was supposed to be a kind of pathway to net zero. As I recall, they envisioned world oil prices declining as the world reduces its demand for oil. By 2050 world oil prices are around $30/bbl oil - I am going from memory here, but I think that is more or less right. At that price, oil sands are no longer earning great income, royalties, taxes are declining and there is certainly no new investment. Andrew said he thought it possible prices could stay highish as we go through this transition. I would have liked to hear what he thought of the CER scenario and what a higher oil price pathway to net zero might look like.

Thanks for this particular podcast. I've long been puzzling how the looming decline in global oil demand will play out for Canada and the oil sands specifically. This podcast filled in many of the gaps including the relative importance of the oil/gas sector to Alberta's and Canada's economy. Thank-you to Andrew Leach for his thoughtful book (just ordered one). It will be telling whether the Pathways Alliance commits to its much ballyhooed plans to reduce emissions by 22Mt/year by 2030 using CCS. which as Sara points out is slightly less than the 20Mt/year reduction proposed in federal cap on GHG emissions. I also found the question from CCL and the ensuing discussion on what happens to Canadian productivity when the oilsands are eventually shut down; i.e., we lose the very high productivity of producing non-conventional ( ~$1000/hr) in an economy where the country wide average is ~$60/hr, and weakening. Good question. Good balance. Good podcast. Thanks.

This is so important a discussion, needed at a critical time when we're being seduced to the must-do transition to non-carbonized energy systems. Most of it magical thinking (see Simon Michaux, Tim Garrett et al.). The insight it gives to the unseen complications that a commitment to a fossil-fuel energy system had bequeathed us is so lacking elsewhere. Thank you.

CLIMATE CULT Timeline to Apocalypse 1970s - Global cooling will kill us all. 1980 - Correction, looks like Global warming will kill us all. 1990s - Global warming will definitely kill us all. 2000s - Global warming stopped. UN memo (original). Lets call it Climate Change because the temperature keeps fluctuating up and down. 2010s - Everyone realises climate change is normal. UN memo (1). Let’s call it a Climate Emergency. 2010s - There was no climate Emergency. UN memo (2). Let’s corrupt the science with false temperature data and call it a Climate Crisis. 2020s - The Climate Crisis failed to eventuate. UN memo (3). Let’s find a useful idiot and name her Greta. She will be our climate cult Goddess. 2021 - Greta failed to change the climate and just yelled at everyone. 2023 - UN memo (4). We will wait for El Nino to arrive and we shall call it Global Boiling. To ensure success the cult got busy with arson attacks throughout Europe starting in Greece when 79 arsonists were arrested in Greece. 2024 - Everyone realises El Niño is a natural event that has always occurred for as long as the Pacific Ocean has been in existence. 2025 - UN memo (5). We shall declare CO2 a toxic hazard that will kill us all. 2025 - UN memo (5) is immediately cancelled when a 9 year old pointed out that CO2 is the trace gas of life without which we and all carbon based life forms do not exist. All that carbon came from CO2. It is called a trace gas because there are traces of it measured at an incredibly low 420ppmv or 0.042%. Barely enough to raise the temperature in a room full of climate cult members releasing methane in a desperate attempt to raise the temperature. 2030 - The climate cult is exhausted from its endless lies and doubles down for another decade of stupidity. 2040 - The climate cools while CO2 continues to rise and everyone realises temperature and CO2 have decoupled. UN admits defeat and commences the biggest compensation payout in human history. Now we can add permafrost Methane release as the latest fake disaster according to COP 28. Every single climate cult doomsday prediction date has come and gone with nothing to show. How many more decades do we tolerate the climate cult clowns that destroy everything they touch.
