Traditional photography in a digital age without sacrificing true creativity. Photo-technique, post-production with Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, Olympus gear reviews and wonderful places to visit in the UK, not to mention a touch of history and art.
Nice! I've had that lens for many years, but forgotten it nearly totally. Always thought that it can't produce anything serious, being so 'toy-like'. Looks like I need to shake my brain and spend few days with only that lens with me. Thank you for your mind provoking work!
This little plastic fantastic’s performance never ceases to amaze! I carry it in my bag at all times due to its diminutive size and weight. One has to use it in order to trust how very good it is. Someday I’d love to experience the PRO version, but until then, this little gem doesn’t disappoint.
Beautiful Music Derek, and many a good Images to be had on that walk, Retro rather than Landscape but different from some city locations, and you managed to produce some excellent work, Regards, Colin.
Good to get a comment about the music. 'Sea Pictures' by Grace Williams is very relevant because she is a Welsh composer and lived on Barry Island, not far from Cardiff. When choosing music I try to find something connected with the location that I can use and that is not just nondescript wallpaper! Pleased you liked the photos too!
Oh dear! looks like 'commercial' photography is not for me then, as I really like the more 'moody' and 'industrial' quality of some of your photos in this video. 👍
Thank you for your comment. I wear two hats for my photography - commercial and artistic. The mistake is to get them mixed up and instead understand where the dividing line is. RU-vid allows me to wear my artistic hat, but unfortunately I don't think my calendar clients are going to be interested. However, pleased you like my artistic shots in the programme.
You certainly deserved that snooze after a 14-mile walk, Derek! Top-rate photos despite the conditions, and the castle interiors were unbeatable! Thank you for another great production.
Thank you for letting me know that you liked my video about the E-M10mkii. I produced it several years ago and have many more programmes. If you don't know already, follow this link for more... ru-vid.com
Derek Good Evening...Liverpool Kev Here. again.....Thank you for your considered and expert explanation...I do like your style very much......I think I have explained that I did some work presenting on cruise ships...I think I was ok at that...but not good at all at 'teaching' people when I tried my hand at 'Training'......Strange but True...I have only been involved in photography for 45 years or so and frankly the mystery of spot metering had escaped me, ...Pretty much entirely...More my fault than yours when I say 'The fog of misunderstanding' has not entirely dissipated but an awful lot less opaque than before...Wish you the very best as ever Derek....Liverpool Kev
Good Evening Liverpool Kev. Thank you for your reminisces. I tried to teach photography at my photo holidays, but it was not always successful. When you got to apertures and shutter-speeds you were told that cameras did it all for you and had great fun by eventing scenarios where some traditional photo knowledge was necessary, like freezing and blurring waterfalls! Spot metering was way down the list particularly when we now have HDR.
Thank you for your comments. We, traditional photographers, sometimes feel that we have lost the plot of photography when computers, and quite like AI, take over the creative aspects of photography. All good wishes.
Very informative Derek regarding spot metering, I am an olympus user both digital and film om-1. Please can you tell me, does lightroom open olympus raw files? The programme I currently use does not and I therefore use the olympus software that I don't find especially easy. I may have to bite the bullet as they say and spend on lightroom.
Adobe Lightroom will open Olympus RAW files but you need to keep the software up to date. I use the subscription version but you can download a copy from Amazon, I have just had a look.
Lovely video thanks again…i notice that your yellows are very pronounced .Is this native outcome of the camera colour science or is t your proprietory lug/edit style. The architecture seems overly golden in hue and grainy
This programme was produced some years ago, before Covid and it is difficult to recall the circumstances governing photography. It is likely that the presence of tungsten light would have warmed the images and although I save to RAW, even today I find it difficult to know how much I should reduce 'yellow' in post-production.
I am sorry to hear that you found the quality of this programme unsatisfactory. However, judging by the many comments, your view doesn't appear to be shared. I am wondering if during transmission, the strength of your wifi signal decreased without your knowledge, this can happen. When it does, RU-vid will reduce the quality of transmission automatically, something I occasionally experience myself even though I have the benefit of London on my doorstep.
I have tried several Olympus and OM SYSTEM lenses indoors but have never found the focal length of the optic a problem in mixed light. However, a f1.8 prime lens is easier to handhold in lowlight.
Pleased you enjoyed the programme. When it comes to colours I save to RAW so that I can do the digital processing normally done in camera to JPEG myself in Adobe Lightroom and tweak the colours manually as I want them. Thank you for getting in touch.
That was great, Derek, and thank you for another great video. I was born in Lancing, which was just off your map to the left of Shoreham-by-Sea, so I knew the Brighton area very well, and this brought back lots of memories. The music was a great bonus.
That stone circle is really something, just loaded with the best kind of photographic potential that almost guarantees everyone will come away with their own unique take on it. Mark me down for a visit, with some luck.
This will be a student's paradise for necessary tool learning with my camera. And of course, some great jaunts around the country. A great month you've lined up, Derek! I appreciate your consistent dedication!!
No you haven't missed episode 5. I have many programmes scheduled for premier and unfortunately the order of the Beginner's Guide series got a little mixed up. It is scheduled for Subscribers 6 September.
