So you have to plan your trip around finding charging stations that i am guessing are not right off the highway and you have to spend time away from your family on the trip and it takes like 40 min or more per stop. I will stick with gas because in reality there is no benefit to owning electric at all!
45 min and not full. Will wait for 6th gen batteries from BMW or go 800v architecture from Porche. Infrastructure just not there. Maybe a commuter car for work but family roadtrip, no thanks! Great video!
Curious but why not add another kid in the second row, fold one of the rear seats down and then ditch the thule roof box? Roof box is probably stripping at least 10% range. Edit: the 20in all terrain probably steal another 5-10%.
2 reasons... 1. CARGO! Our roofbox was FULL. Our frunk was FULL. We had snow skis, a pack n play for the baby, boots, helmets, etc. We were full to the brim. 2. Comfort - We have the luxury of not typically having 3 kids across in the middle seat, and it's better. They have more space, less fighting, etc. If they're happier in the car, that means we can drive farther without an "incident." We only use that roofbox for probably 4 to 5 trips a year... We use it for ski trips for the ski equipment, and then maybe once a year we'll do some kind of road trip w/ camping equipment or something else where we need the space. It probably does kill the range by 10% or so, but I don't really care that much... I can only drive so far before I need to stop and pee or have lunch or something so it's all good. We love the Thule!
@@hungarianhc I didn't realize you guys had skis with you! I was skipping around the video haha. Makes a ton of sense why you used the Thule box. And yes children sitting side by side isn't always ideal. But seeing the video they seemed to well behaved? which is why I was wondering 😅
Did you run into any stations (besides Tesla) where it wasn't compatible? I went to a EVGo and the charger wouldn't fit even though the map told me to go to that location.
This doesn’t look very appealing. I own a EV and would never cart my entire family around the country in it. That’s what my gas powered, body on frame Lexus suv is for. I don’t take vacations to sit around in parking lots. EVs are fine for commutes and charging at home but not much else
That was great!!! How are you liking it 6 months later? I'm very excited for the R2!!!! I have a model 3 right now and looking forward to hopefully trade it in for that one!!!
What I am truly curious about is the cost you paid at each charging station and how it relates to a tankful of fuel or price per gallon vs. price per kilowatt
Is actually way cheaper than gas, and yes the range might not be the best but for a car that you’ll use everyday is perfect. BTW if you have an EV you’ll be saving 66% of money buy charging in your house than going to a gas station
Bro you did a Doo Doo 💩 change at a charging station? Were you promoting that accessory? Did your charging neighbors get a poopy experience at charge as well? I’m confused. 😂
Way to much time spent planning around the charging. With an ice car you don't need to plan at all. Electric cars are not the future they are just an add on for mainly local commutes. Hydrogen may be the future.
I should have! To be honest, I didn't care... Two reasons: the Rivian chargers are currently free, and I do 90% of my charging at home, which is also free (solar). So for such a limited use case, it wasn't something I was thinking I needed to track. Should have done it for the video!
From the video it seems all you did was charge. That should have been the title. Charging my status symbol. Didn’t make it through whole video. Bullshit. Ps. I’m a fan of electric cars
