I was going to use the bigger gaff comment but someone beat me to it. We may even need a bigger Kayak. Great video and I loved the what am I gonna do with it? Lol great video adventure 😊
dope man! I wanna get out there with ya soon! My first kayak adventure in Goleta a few weeks ago was hilarious. I fell off while taking a piss and got soaked lol. Managed to catch like 4 bait fish and sent a few down for like 20 minutes but I was freezing so I went back in.
do you have much luck with catching halibut in the summer? I'd given up targeting them and have been sight fishing for corbina (not much luck there either, hard fish to catch). I've figured that my approach of relying on jerkbaits in the surf probably isn't seasonally wise so I started fishing heavier structure like this near me. I'm fishing weedless texas and hitting pockets, no halibut but I caught some nice rockfish. I like the style of your videos, cheers!
Ya summer time when the waters warm up is really when the halibut season kicks off here Corbina are thick in the shallows as well and are worth targeting. As you said a super hard fish to catch! They put up a fight tho Thanks for the support 🤙
Cool footage. Takes a lot of dedication to learn the nuances of west coast surf fishing. So much of the water looks featureless and identical to even the moderately experienced angler. Take a look at John Skinner's striped bass surf fishing videos and it will leave you drooling. Our west coast surf striper fishery is interesting but we just don't have the estuary nursery productivity that is needed to become a truly world class fishery.
I agree the striped bass here are unpredictable at the best of times. Well worth targeting as they seem to be doing better and better every year here in Cali. Definitely worth every bit of effort 😁
Used to live down in that area. Saw a halibut that was recklessly chasing baitfish go flying clear above my fishing buddy's head while we were standing only knee deep in the kelp.
Corbina are actually the shallowest parts of the water. I use waders when targeting other fish but these elusive fish are found right at the shoreline. If you are in the water you will spook them!
@@SbsurfanglerI'm inclined to agree. They're so close it's frustrating; bumping into my feet! Absolute behemoths almost beaching themselves. I had two chances to barehand some today. I almost think a hand net and spear might land more fish haha so crazy this summer down in Carlsbad, San Diego. It's a corbina bananza, and I can't catch any 😅 (help me, ima bout to start tossing dynamite)
@@KyleDixon88I’m working on some epic Corbina fishing footage.. the best advice i can give is to stay dedicated and patient. Corbina are very frustrating fish to catch, lots of missed strikes and spooks. I miss several opportunities before i actually hook up
As far as I know you just need somewhere it's allowed, and a CA fishing license with the salt water enhancement. But it could be slightly different. I don't remember exactly what the regulations are but that's close at least
