Could you add a single Brummell to the loop as in a regular soft shackle? Or am I missing something in the order of operations? … love the ideas you come up with… have been on the huns fire some variety in hollow braid splicing 🤌🏽👏🏽
@@jeffmyers7062 do you have a splice like the mobius or similar but one you can capture a fixed eye (like a eye in a hook) within the spliced eye? While only having access to one end of the strands? I’m thoroughly bingeing through your fantastic brainstorming Ideas 🙌🏽
Yes, everything that you’re saying is correct, however… Doubled over 16th doesn’t have to be equal to 1/8. It’s not about making them equal it’s just about giving a static line some flexibility. Internal tensioners are way sexier than the ones that are being made in the video. I’m not trying to be argumentative but I much prefer an internal tarp tensioner with spliced loops on each end than the ones I made after I watched your video. Just my preference. Thanks for taking the time though. I appreciate your videos!
Cool thing is , you can make it however you want. If you "prefer" a "sexier" Line as you call it, then of course go for it. For me function and ease of use is where it at with my camping gear.
Wonder when europeans will get the right dimensions for hammocks designed for single persons...it's gruesome over here. Just Onewind has the right dimensions and they are allright but I guess not comparable to USA brands in quality and ethics in manufacturing...
One of the toggles on my suspension like this broke what do you suggest? Do you have extra toggles or should I go with the button or a titanium button?
Tools! I keep searching splicing/fishing tools and haven’t had any luck. I am in Canada, so our access is challenged. That Jungle site hasn’t been helpful. I found a markin some with some tools but noting like you are using.
Have you tried clicking through the links on his channel description? Maybe the facebook one would be helpful. But to do those splices you can just use a thin guage wire, cut a length, then fold in half (just don't make the jagged or sharp). Jeff suggests a coat hanger, but i found that wire used for gardening (tying plants, etc) is just great. Seriously it's that simple. Cutting? those replaceable utility knives. (i'd love a pair of those scissors though... 🙃)
If anyone else had trouble with the shuttle slipping, I was able to make it work by using 3 turns through the shuttle's fixed loop, or by having the fixed loop lark's head around the main line.
Could you hang a hammock on that webbing using a Bachmann hitch knot to slide up & down the webbing? Or is the webbing just too thin & slippery for that?
Technical comment: This is a slipped overhand (or slip knot) being used as a stopper knot. Stopper knot is a class of knot uses including figure-8, double-overhand, Ashley stopper, Stevedore knot. Thanks for the video. I love your videos.
Jeff, Love your videos. No nonsense, All content. A while back I went to your eBay site looking for the tools you use. Not there... Ended up buying other things but the beauty of this tech is that I can do it myself. For whatever reason, I find it daunting to make the tool myself when I could put money in your pocket and buy it from you. Do you have any plans for selling a collection of tools?
Wow! Nice! the idea i described for tarp tieoffs a while ago is using a legit button knot then an inline loop. Much more work than your approach! (2 brummels and a button...) 😅 but making it inline looks a bit cleaner... ish ☺️ what a pain i cant share a picture 🙃
Great video! Where can I find the buckles in this video? The link in the description doesn’t seem to be working. Thanks for sharing your knowledge for years now. I’ve learned so much from your videos.
Jeff, I can’t wait for my order to arrive! Where do you get your hook hook latch splicing tool? The widely used ones I’ve tried always seem to break on me, also the handle on yours looks much more compatible with “man hand” than the tiny all-metal ones.
love your stuff...best tutorials on yt. i have been thinking of making 'buttons' for the button knot, but out of hard wood like purple heart. but i was thinking only one hole in the middle with a stopper knot or back splice to secure the button...for use on non critical applications like, sail gaskets, and soft sail hanks to use on synthetic stays.
