I noticed the same thing that the ball doesn’t feel like actual leather. They feel like a composite ball you might get for $20 at Walmart. To add to that, Wilson claims they added more tech than any other ball to increase spin rate, velocity, distance etc. I certainly felt a decrease in velocity and distance especially in trying to make longer throws to the field when compared to the GST. I also noticed an increase in arm pain during camp when we used them compared to the GSTs. I can’t imagine trying to throw these in the rain or if the field is wet because I don’t think it would even be possible. Wilson should be ashamed of this poor quality football that they are trying to pawn off as their best item.
@@CBPJoey seems like they were made just as a marketing scheme. For QBs who have thrown enough that they can tell the difference between a good and bad ball and can tell when they have to give more effort just to throw the ball softer and shorter, it’s awful. It’s not even just the quality of leather but how bad the ball flight is. Not sure if Wilson has nobody who notices this or if they just don’t care about QC.
It's bad. We bought them for our college and now have to deal with the sunk cost of going back to the GSTs. Got them directly from Wilson as well. We wanted to switch because the quality of GSTs continue to just get worse and worse for reference. If we order 18 we get maybe 5 game balls out of them. Not sure what happened to Wilson over the years and we are contracted by our conference to use Wilson as our game balls
@@CBPJoey well the Omegas all just come like the one you got. The pre treated leather is just awful. The GSTs come with a variety of issues. Leather issues, shape issues, etc. The good ones of the GSTs are at least still good, but we've started to just go to Scheels and buy up only the ones we can pre check to make sure they are good
Absolutely trash. For that price it’s completely insane that you’re shipped that garbage. By the way - go to the Wilson website and watch their Omega break-in video, it’s a completely different ball.
What ball would you recommend? I just wanna play catch with my girl but she's got tiny hands and i'm in the UK so it rains a lot, we're still throwing around a cheap ball we got on holiday years ago but only use it on grass. Price isn't too much of an issue.
Few of the best in no particular order: GST/GST Prime Wilson F2000 Nike Vapor Elite For small hands though, I’d give the Team Issue Dual Threat a look - there’s a review on the channel and the guys will let you know what it would cost to ship it over. I’ve thrown it in game and it’s a great ball.
@@CBPJoey Apologies, but could you let me know what would be best baring in mind we don't have any ball prep stuff, what would you recommend with wet weather mostly, small hands and needs to be ready to throw?
I want to but I’ll need to pick it up. I’ve held it at a local retailer, it’s pretty high quality before break-in, can’t imagine you’d regret that buy.
@@CBPJoey I’m really interested because it’s advertised as a “slightly smaller” ball but I also saw that it’s actually more rubber than leather in the specs which gives me a little caution
it’s not smaller. If money is no object, buy a dime or Vapor elite, or GST/gst prime If you want something a little cheaper, the Team Issue Money Ball is a very strong option allegedly, and I’ll vouch for the leather quality given that I have a Team Issue Dual Threat and it feels great.
With the lighter coloured ball, I only used the brush and tack bar. The darker coloured ball: wiped off with warm rag, shaving cream, brushing, leather conditioner, tack bar. A way more time consuming process though I prefer the state of the lighter ball more.
Hey man ive been watching some of your vIdeos, and i have a website you can check out if you would like that hsa prepped and game ready balls from high school to college and pro size. They have all types of balls and ship to canada if you need. lmk
Yo w vid man. Really enjoyed this one I just copped the Nike championship ball on the Nike app. Is it the same as the vapor one elite or nah ? Keep up the good work fs
It’s not quite the same in terms of quality - the leather on the NC ball is a bit worse, laces are a bit more coarse etc, at least on the ones I’ve felt when compared to the VE. Still a way better ball than 90% of the stuff out there though.
Fellow Ontarian, I'm a QB with small hands too so I feel you. I just got a brand new duke off marketplace for like $95 but I don't think it's for me. I prefer my GST but this Nike Vapor Elite is on my radar. Sick choice on the colours.
Had to go with the beer league jersey combo. I just threw the Team Issue Dual Threat for the first time on the weekend - other team had the ref stop the game to check the ball, that’s how good the thing feels to throw.
The prep process is a big deal for the receivers, the gloves stick better due to less dimpled, softer footballs due to the surface area contact. And the process is easier when you know which steps are for what purpose. The initial shaving cream/brush is to break the factory seal coating of the leather and allow the ball to be prepped, then you lotion for color and softness while it’s wet and allow it to dry. Then you’re supposed to brush and apply mud to the ball. When brushing in the mud it micro-scores the ball making it softer, grippier and also darker due to the mud color. After that is all done you apply the tack to apply extra stick and brush it to set it. The reason the second ball feels better is because of the work you did scoring the ball with the brush and tack.
Ah good feedback! The ball that didn’t get any of the extras definitely feels worse, and that seems to be why! It’s fun breaking in these balls in either case though, I’m sure some people would prefer the conditioned/darker ball even if I don’t.
Random question, I purchased the Omega aswell from a different retailer. Mine looks the exact same as yours. Are they suppose to look like this? Even new from how it came, brushing the football virtually does nothing to it.
It's TERRIBLE eh! I honestly don't think theres any way that I have the same ball I've seen in some of the Shorts clips. That one short where the guy is brushing the ball for 30 days and it darkens up and looks like real leather for example - there's zero chance I have the same ball. Post a pic of it on Twitter and tag me, I'll take some good pics of mine and reply. @joeytweeets
Great reviews! I have not tried any of the Team Issue balls yet. I may have to buy one. I consistently throw the GST balls and the official NFL football, but I'm willing to try others too.
I’ve enjoyed going away from the GST, honestly - some of the fun the manufacturers have with the dimensions of the ball make these other options pretty solid!
My kid uses a team issue ball junior. We tried the gst junior he didn't like it. We got the team issue and he loved it. I had to show the ref's MBJ the J is junior so he could use it. Then we went to another town and I went and talked to the ref about the ball and showed him the MBJ and the wouldn't let him use the ball for that game. Ref said the ball is to small so he had to use a gst junior for that game. To be honest I don't think the ref wanted to switch the balls between offense.
I’ll probably record the omega review this week, but it makes an appearance in a few of the reviews on the channel. Long and short - my omega sucks, maybe it’s just mine and maybe not.
@@CBPJoey mine was also shipped with UPS, but I also received another import charge that I had to pay when the postman delivered, on top of the shipping charge that I paid at checkout. Was that the case with you? I've never had to pay something upfront when ordering outside or Canada.
Now that I’m really thinking about it, I might have paid like another 20-30 when I picked the package up. I had to grab mine from a UPS pickup “hub” (or whatever they’re called) at a local gas station. Hope you like the ball!

@@yuric9009 exactly - see what you think of the other videos/balls on the channel. I have two more (Dime and GST) scheduled, with the Vapor Elite and Omega waiting to be recorded.
Nike says the ball is weighted a certain way to promote distance and spin, so I think it’s the ball. Plus, I have enough other footballs around to know I can throw a clean spiral!
I've been using the shaving cream on these footballs for awhile and it works perfectly fine. Pretty much all/most of the professionals I see breaking in the balls use shaving cream. It does act as a conditioner for the ball and softens the leather along with removing tons of dye. It's important that you use leather conditioner as well, after using the shaving cream. Everybody has their own method with slight differences but these slight differences are inconsequential. Any good quarterback will be able to throw any broken-in football, regardless of the steps taken to condition the ball.
I use the shaving cream because it lifts that waxy film off a new ball so I can get my conditioner to seep into the pores. Watch the video I uploaded on how I prep my leather footballs
I just made a video on the GST that’s out in a week. One with all the treatments, one with just brush and wax. I have to say I like the brush/wax better.
Try not to use shaving cream when ur breaking in a ball, it can dry the ball out long-term and even deform the ball because of the lanolin content I usually use two coats of conditioner (with a wax bar + brush in between them) and gridiron leather balm before going into the mud step, makes for a fantastic general/all-weather end result. Ive taken some notes from a guy who does this professionally and he recommends something like that
I have a GST Prime on the way, I think I might revisit this comment or even just brush/wax only and see if that helps with grip. The shaving cream definitely takes the dye off, but I’m not convinced it otherwise helps.
@@CBPJoey I wouldn’t even use the wet towel, it has similar adverse effects to the shaving cream-don’t treat the dye on the ball like it’s an enemy or something you have to remove. If you condition the ball with a couple steps (without removing the dye) and then mud it, it’ll turn out beautiful Also make sure you pay attention to your climate cus it’ll take a long time for products to dry if your climate is super humid. If you want I could send you the Instagram of the guy I know who does it for the NFL/NCAA, he has some nice tips on that page
