This video should help you with your new football purchase decision.
I was looking for something like this when I was deciding which ball to buy, but ended up with a lot of videos that didn't really tell me much, so here's a review of the three most commonly searched footballs (minus the NFL's Duke) - the Wilson GST, the Nike Vapor One, and the Wilson F2000.
All three balls have pros and cons, and I'll outline them for you here. I'll also go through the benefits of The Wilson Tack Bar Kit, which I recommend for any leather ball.
We'll go over the grip, the laces, the leather stripe stitching, and more. If you have specific questions, let me know.
Hope you enjoy the video, and that it helps!

I've been using the shaving cream on these footballs for awhile and it works perfectly fine. Pretty much all/most of the professionals I see breaking in the balls use shaving cream. It does act as a conditioner for the ball and softens the leather along with removing tons of dye. It's important that you use leather conditioner as well, after using the shaving cream. Everybody has their own method with slight differences but these slight differences are inconsequential. Any good quarterback will be able to throw any broken-in football, regardless of the steps taken to condition the ball.

I use the shaving cream because it lifts that waxy film off a new ball so I can get my conditioner to seep into the pores. Watch the video I uploaded on how I prep my leather footballs

I just made a video on the GST that’s out in a week. One with all the treatments, one with just brush and wax. I have to say I like the brush/wax better.

good think you telling people to treat it with wax it better for the leather: I take it out the box and play

Try not to use shaving cream when ur breaking in a ball, it can dry the ball out long-term and even deform the ball because of the lanolin content I usually use two coats of conditioner (with a wax bar + brush in between them) and gridiron leather balm before going into the mud step, makes for a fantastic general/all-weather end result. Ive taken some notes from a guy who does this professionally and he recommends something like that

I have a GST Prime on the way, I think I might revisit this comment or even just brush/wax only and see if that helps with grip. The shaving cream definitely takes the dye off, but I’m not convinced it otherwise helps.

fyi - so far, you're right - the wet towel plus the brush/wax is the move

@@CBPJoey I wouldn’t even use the wet towel, it has similar adverse effects to the shaving cream-don’t treat the dye on the ball like it’s an enemy or something you have to remove. If you condition the ball with a couple steps (without removing the dye) and then mud it, it’ll turn out beautiful Also make sure you pay attention to your climate cus it’ll take a long time for products to dry if your climate is super humid. If you want I could send you the Instagram of the guy I know who does it for the NFL/NCAA, he has some nice tips on that page

Definitely some variance ball to ball, that’s for sure.

Is it just me or the Wilson GST feels more round and harder to throw than the Nike footballs?
@james-df6pz

I feel like the GST dies mid air but the Vapor one and Vapor elite keep the velocity and are easier to throw and spiral
