I've literally worn a watch with a tachymeter for several years. Tonight I got extremely high and was looking at my watch and decided to look it up. Now that I know the basics, I'm gonna look into why the numbers depreciate so quickly at first. Thanks for this video and for the rabbit hole I'm about to go down tonight!
What's the reason behind choosing the readings of tachymeterfrom 500 to 60?? (Written on the bezel dial) Why not 700,800,900,......?? How did they conclude the 500 to 60 to be the standard??
I have a Gold Certina Bristol 195 that was gifted to me when I was a teenager. I wore it through high school and university. It finally died , the crystal was cracked. I had it serviced in Geneva back in 1994 , new stem , spring and crystal. I still looks great today , after 30 years since it was serviced. Back then it cost me USD 100. I've owned it since 1970 if my memory serves me right, maybe a few years earlier. It is still elegant today
Today is July 5th 2024, my 62nd birthday. I received a citizen watch and thought about my large collection of watches. I figured now that I’m old, retired and slowed way down, I might as well finally find out what the hell this tachymeter is used for. Thank you for the awesome explanation. Now….im off to determine some speeds, production numbers, etc.
Better off with a good ole timing bezel. That’s a way better feature and way more resourceful than this one. Keep track of how long your cooking something or just any tracing of time up to an hour. Scuba diving and such.
wouldn't it make more sense, instead of figuring out how many fractions of a km it was for a runner to get km/h, to just to multiply by hundreds of meters then shift the decimal point over to get meters per second?
This is a stunner. The only "hiccup" (and very minor one, of course) is the leather strap. As a dress watch, the wearer should keep any metal and leather accessories in harmony with the timepiece. That's why in my book, the Day Date in platinum with the ice blue face (ref. 228206) is the perfect dress watch, for its slap on and go versatility.
