Much of Sleeper was shot at Cal Arts. The hallways, the "operation room', the Orgasmatron, etc.. In 1973, my wife literally ran into Woody rounding in a corner in a hallway in a hurry for class, both on the floor. The 'Orgasmatron was a light tite circular door from our graphics lab darkroom - borrowed and separated, then returned.
This has been a favourite film of mine since it came out when i was 15. Everyone went on about Woody Allen, and of course we'd all seen Sleeper. But this makes me nostalgic for an era i missed by decades. Great film making and too many brilliant moments to pinpoint. Although when the guys just saunter in beside Ruthie to do their parts during the Carmen Miranda song, its a favourite. And Wallace Shawn.
How is this not his best movie? The Jokes fit in seamlessly. He combined the themes and motifs. I guess that really works. By combining things the pieces all fit together better. The singer cheats on his wife and then breaks up with his manager. There's guilt over the betrayal. They are struggling to make it in the world. People from the past trying to salvage their careers. There's The italian vibe. It didn't occur to me that the black and white was something from Italian cinema. So many films and entertainment seem so forced yet this movie moves of it's own force. Is that what they mean by Tour de Force?
Woody Allen movies or highly intellectual... His last night in Paris this full of illusions.. allusions... I love Google when I dictate to it... But this is one of his finest movies particularly showing the Greek chorus... Which seems totally off the wall... But actually works out really well with a comedy... Helena. Was excellent... And Mira sorvino... Also an intellectual... Really had great fun... With costume voice and acting to make a very sympathetic character
There is no better writer than Woody Allen... And not a bad actor also showing the Jewish nebish character... Mary sorvino was excellent and a great find... And so was everybody in the movie... Helena Bonham Carter.. was excellent... And the Greek chorus... Was a truly unique addiction and addition... My education is very esoteric... And I not only read Greek... But also the history of the playwrights in the Greek period... What a great fusion of Greek tragedy and comedy...
Anche questo è un ottimo film di Woody Allen:divertente, intelligente, geniale, straordinario come moltissimi film del grande regista. WOODY SEI UN VERO GENIO. ❤❤❤
Zelig is one of my favorite films of all time, and I think it has profound things to say about conformity and groupthink and the need for belonging. It should be seen and talked about more.
I think that the concept of "Pronoia" was penned after a line in this movie. "I think you’re the opposite of paranoid. I think you walk around with the insane delusion that people like you." But maybe I'm just wishing it was so.
I ❤ Woody Allen. Just found this channel, and it is great! Looking forward to watching every video. Not sure why you stopped posting videos 6 years ago, but this looks like a treasure trove for us Woody Allen afficianados! Thanks for all of your hard work producing them for us to enjoy!
A favorite movie of mine, I have the DVD. Diane Keaton was precious: "So, where do you want to eat? And the Countess at the opera and in her room at midnight, Wow!
I thought this was Woody's last great film. But there were future films that came close to greatness: Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Blue Jasmine and in my opinion and looking at it in its' entirety: "Whatever Works".
I discovered this movie by chance during my US college days in the early 80's. It has remained one of my all-time favourite films, mirroring my own upbringing in Trinidad. There, we had two (two!) radio stations, which informed our daily lives when I was a pre-teen. I watch this movie almost every year, and it never gets stale!
