Peoples are lately going crazy about Miquella from Elden ring, most that we think are more or less liking cute boy just (certainly because of religious legacy) having some thoughts in your head is bad, how dare you have " bad throughts " in your head, how dare take have littles pleasures in some arts and stuff or whatever, the judgement is roots in the religious legacy i think Ironic when you know abrahamic religions are not the one who made a system that protect childrens

I am about 90% through the book now, and it is fascinating! I would love to ask you some questions that I think are not answered in the book, and also just to connect with someone who has researched this honestly. Is there a convenient way to reach out to you to discuss the book?

The confession scene in Yamato Takeru (1994) reminded me of other anime where there’s a shota best friend confession. In both Dororo (Osamu Tezuka; manga 1967; anime 1969) and Arion (Yasuhiko Yoshikazu; manga 1979; anime 1986) the younger boy protagonist confesses to the older boy protagonist near the end of the story. However, it is then revealed that the younger boy is really a girl “pretending to be a boy”. It made me so mad, because I read these in close succession and got burned both times. There are hints of romantic affection between the characters even before the older protagonist finds out the younger one’s sex. Do you think these works are shota-coded, and it was just unacceptable to publish it at the time without the change? More precisely, do you think the author wanted to write a boy romance but figured he wouldn’t be able to publish it?
@karl.andersson
@karl.andersson Месяц назад
Cool references, I was not aware of them. But I think that in general the authors are not aware. Or rather, that the allure of the boy characters goes beyond shota; *everyone* likes a cute boy and the chiralism with which he is drawn. So the authors sort of tap into a general desire that lurks in society's unconscious. An unspoken desire. Shota just makes that desire visible.
@klawiehr
@klawiehr Месяц назад
Wow, now I understand why Japanese writers are so good at chiralism. Coding and expressing things with underlying intent is embedded in their culture and communication styles to begin with. That talent happens to help sell merchandise, too… somehow the capitalistic angle of that doesn’t depress me... but maybe it’s because I’m a buyer.

This is such an interesting channel! Binged through half of your videos in one sitting. You have a great manner of speech and methods of relaying information in general, and that is one of the main contributors I would say. Wish the uploads were more frequent, but I do understand why they're not. I am yet to lay my eyes on your book and, frankly speaking, have no idea if I'll ever read it due to possible shipping and financial struggles that may come with it, still, there's something I'm very curious to ask. You see, I'm into shotacon as well, but I'm really not proud of it. On the contrary - I lowkey hate this fact, and if I could change it by the snap of the finger - I totally would. But at the end of the day - what can you do if you are born like that? And obviously, I wouldn't ever approach minors and talk to them about anything sexual, ever. But I would lie to myself (as many loli/shota fans I reckon) if I said that I'm strictly attracted to fictional characters. What's rather ironic is that I condemn pedophiles despite technically being one myself. Although, to be clear, it's more about people who feel no shame about it (cunny culture, etc). Do you, by any chance, feel the same way? Have you learned to cope with it if so? And how much do your studies help you with that process? It really is an incredibly intricate topic people are yet to grasp upon and it has a long and arduous path ahead of it for everyone to filter through and hopefully draw better boundaries of what is acceptable and not, but just knowing myself and what situation I personally am in, it really is gonna take a hell of a long time for modern day society to come to that. Very curious on your stance though, given you actually do legit research and whatnot. Oh, and I'm a 21 year old male if you're interested.

Thanks for your sweet and openhearted comment, which highlights a core aspect of my book, namely the difference in mindsets between Japan and many other cultures. In short, you describe your interest in shota as a sexuality, something you're born with. In my book, I call this the "born this way" mindset. But what I show is that many Japanese participants in my study think of their shota interest as a "hobby" rather than as a "sexuality". In other words, the Japanese way of thinking of one's shota interest provides a different perspective, and thereby shows that the "born this way" mindset of sexualities is not universal. Rather, it has emerged because of historical factors such as Christianity and the "medical" discourse that came in its wake after the Enlightenment. Which I describe in some detail in the book. What I want readers of my book or of this comment to feel is the sense of liberation that comes with seeing one's interest or desire from another viewpoint (like, try seeing it as a charming hobby rather than as a sexuality). Not sure if that makes sense in a short comment like this, maybe I should do a video about it.

@@karl.andersson Thanks for replying! A video would be great actually, but don't feel pressured to do it just because someone random encourages you, make it on your own will and tempo. As for my case in specific, I'm not a fan of having such hobbies, it's something that brings me pleasure and self-satisfaction - yes, but that's where it ultimately stops. I'm not passionate about it, I'm not willing to talk about it (this very moment is an exception given the environment I'm in), and I especially don't want it to build my character, because hobbies naturally form you as a person, and this is definitely not the direction I want to step towards. I am very much interested about what you have to say though, even if our opinions and worldview differ. At the end of the day, as long as it's not malicious - I'm always open to what other people have to say, and I mean it. Just a quick note though. I already embraced shotacon and I don't consider it to be a necessarily bad thing as long as you know your boundaries, but I still don't think it's something that people should be proud of, per se. Personally speaking, it's more of a fetish, but on an extreme scale. And people normally don't talk about those. In case of shota, it's yet to be accepted in society even as "just another weird fetish". People are reluctant of bringing it up even when asked, for obvious reasons. No one wants to get labeled with the P word. And there's no such thing yet established as good or bad P - as ridiculous as it sounds right now, because better and more precise boundaries are yet to be drawn by most. This is pretty much my whole stance on this topic as of now.
@karl.andersson
@karl.andersson Месяц назад
What you describe is basically the "ethics of shota", as my study participants describe it in the book. Views on how integral one's shota interest is to one's very being, so to speak, varied among my participants in Japan, but on the whole I noted the difference in mindset that I described above. Appreciate your comments!

Hello Mr. Andersson! Is there a chance that there will be an electronic (.pdf or something like .epub) version of your book available? You don't even have to make it cheaper than the paperback one! Because it's a bit stressful to buy physical books like this from overseas in a countries like Russian Federation/Iran/Pakistan, with a state-mandated anti-LGBT and other highly conservative laws. We (the pals from such countries) still have our $$$ and a means to pay for your book, - but some customs officer, who will look through our order (if he knows english, of course. And they DO look through the postal packages.), can create a heap of legal issues for the buyer. (He may also decide not to create them, but it's a game of chance.) So having a PDF for the sale will be highly appreciated! (And will surely bring you more $$$ to further your research)
