Nice you came out as a breadtuber, I'll know now to avoid this channel. You associate with the smoothest of brainlets, and tell Hbomberguy if i see him irl he'll be crying
Well .... very interesting what you've done assembling a warband, BUT in the title you are asking if Frostgrave is the best skirmish game, which is what interested me and you've ignored this completely. So, sorry buddy, for me it's a pointless video.
Sorry it felt that way! The hobbying and warband assembly is a pretty key component to FG as a game imo which is why i spent so much time on it. Then once I'd actually played it, i was pretty honest about how i felt about the in-game stuff as well, ending with the fact that it wouldn't replace mesbg as my go-to game, so... that feels pretty conclusive that while i like it, it's not the best skirmish game... ...so... i think i did answer the question honestly...
@@forestcityterrain Warcry has been my favorite game for the last few years. Age of Sigmar was my first Wargaming love, the one that got me into the hobby.
Yeah, that's always the hardest part. If you really can't find anything the solo supplement bluebird mentioned may work, or I would also HIGHLY recomend Rangers of Shadowdeep. Same designer and very similar rulset, but it's a solo campaign game based around a ranger and his warband rather than a Wizard in pvp
Woo, Frostgrave! I don't know if there's a "best" skirmish game, but it's a great game if you're looking for campaign progression and a focus on magic. Hey, I recognize a lot of your potential menagerie minis - I hope you'll do some videos on filling out the random encounters.
Thanks! And yah i like Rangers too, though as of now I've only played it solo, would love to try coop. Stargrave is a serious interest to me, as i don't really have a scifi game
It's so hard to pick a good ruleset and Frostgrave is up there. If you're looking for another quick to play skirmish game Anthems of War would use the same minis!
Always good to see you upload. I will say that Frostgrave and other games like that are great for hacking. Change whatever the hell you want to make the game more fun for you.
@@AndurzTalksHobbiesI have wizards two actions so they can cast more spells along with using a damage dice for weapons and spells so it’s not as swingy.
Your selection of videos essays/channels to listen to whilst modelmaking is brilliant and mirrors what I listen to! I'd also suggest LadyKnighttheBrave as her stuff is brilliant and similar to LadyEmily's. (Oh and Rowan Ellis' video on Black Sails is a routine relisten!)
@@AndurzTalksHobbies Amazing! I'm so glad you are enjoying the videos :) Also, thank you for your fantastic hobby videos, your Angmar and Arnor videos have inspired me to do a lot more hobbying myself.
It's not the best skirmish game. It's a mediocre resolution engine propped up by a very good scaffolding of the campaign system and scenarios. As in, the set up of the whole thing is very conducive to getting a fun campaign going, but the rules themselves are based on the fickle D20 while the actual window for success in very narrow, meaning your stats are kind of meaningless compared to the need to roll high numbers. Which again is dependent on the fickle granularity of said D20. Your minis look great, and you can have a lot of fun with Frostgrave. But if you want a game with really well designed rules for the actual on table action, go have a look at Trench Crusade by Toumas Pirinen.
Yeah, i was surprised by just how different it felt using a d20 vs a d6, like i get it in concpet, but you really FEEL it when playing. And may give that a look!
Good looking mini's. I'd probably glue my fingers together with those tiny parts. The shards of Narsil is interesting. I would have went with a deer head... Losrandir.
That barrow wight conversion really works. The whole warband is pretty boss, in fact. Frostgrave is great, but I prefer Rangers of Shadowdeep. It's by the same author and the rules are almost the same, you pretty much already know how to play. The major difference ( besides playing a ranger instead of a wizard) is it's narrative co op instead of competitive. It's worth a look if you liked Frostgrave. ( also agreed on your RU-vid recommendations)
The system and arithmetic get a lot smoother and easier after your first few games. Once you get the hang of the rules and don’t have to think about them so much it becomes so fun, all the crazy stuff that happens with magic and monsters make for great stories
Yah, the other guys i was playing with had kind of pre written alot of the common plusses and minuses into their character sheet and even that did alot to smooth it out!
