Firstly congratulations! Secondly, love the tower. It’s a really solid piece and it fits nicely with the theme of your army. Finally, it’s great to see you hitting the 7k and passing it with subscribers. Look forward to what comes next.

I love the fact that you start with research before adding in your own imaginative input to produce superb figures and amazing terrain pieces!

Well thank you and thank you :P And yah, the combination of imagination and "hard lore" has really been my favorite part of the hobby lately. I'm not one for "true lore accuracy" like some are, as I more like to start with what's given, and then just explore on from there!

Another well thought out and executed project it looks impressive and an evil place! Great use of the textures! The lore around Angmar and Arnor give the Lord of the Rings such depth of history it would be interesting to look at other lesser known or covered kingdoms and lands. I love the War of the Ring book, never played as with most rules, but an inspiring tome. I would like to one day do large Middle-earth battles but there's heaps I need to paint.
@AndurzTalksHobbies

Absolutely there's lots of bits out there like that with lesser kingdoms of men or dwarves, or honestly alot of the 2nd age stuff that ROP is touching out now fits that imo. One dream project I've been thinking of is a 4th age Gondor army as that's a whole other time to explore
@TonyEmeryPG20mm

@@AndurzTalksHobbies that would be a cool project! I love the aesthetic of the movie armies but I'm also very drawn to a dark age esque look. So I keep scratching my head how to reconcile these two styles.

Carn Dûm was build by the Witchking, there was no presence of the dwarves in Mountains of Angmar, Gundabad is the furthermost north-west where Durin's Folk settled, especially that after First Age the Mountains of Angmar were infested by Orcs which fled from Angband and in Angmar itself lived a population of Hillmen (related to those from Rhudaur) which weren't friendly as well, so not really a good place for dwarves to live ;D however a great region for the Witchking to establish his Kingdom
@AndurzTalksHobbies
@AndurzTalksHobbies Год назад
And there you are! I think it was on FB that i heard someone talking about the dwarven stuff (may have been jn one of the role playing of mmo style games). I do like the idea of carn dum maybe being somewhat subterrainian though like Angband was. Maybe built right into the mountain with the intériorité continuing deep underground.
@ellanenish5999
@ellanenish5999 Год назад
@@AndurzTalksHobbies I think you might have Heard about dwarven stuff because of the name it self Carn Dûm, it is a name originated probably from the mixed of Sindarin (elvish culture) and Khûzdul (dwarven culture) With Carn meaning red in Sindarin And Dûm meaning hall in Khûzdul Overall it translates to something like "Red Halls"
@jordymoss1662

Heya Andurz, you probably got the dwarf thing from myself and Albert (two towers podcast). So here's my little spiel about it being a dwarf settlement that was resettled some time later. Firstly; the name, nice and easy there's a heavy allusion with the dwarven naming convention. Secondly the dwarves were actually awoken at Mount Gundabad (which is incredibly close to angmar ofc). So the mountains of Angmar would have been settled by the stout folk very early on in their migrations. The third and biggest influence on that though is the idea that evil cannot create only corrupt. Sans saurons construction of Mordor all of the current orc strongholds are usurped eg Minas Morgul, Cirith Ungol, Dol Guldur etc. I think given that Carn Dum was settled third age I find it far more likely to have just been a resettlement of an old dilapidated Fortress.
@somerton4383
@somerton4383 Год назад
@@jordymoss1662 It might be the stone fortress in the icy wastelands in the Rings of Power show (love it or hate it, it has some awesome sets), or at least similar in style. I always theorise it's a bit like Minas Morgul, but with a further accentuation on sharper edges, triangular architecture like here, and metal plated areas dispersed here and there at its jagged tower tops. It would have an aura of frost and decay, in a land where many would have met their icy grave, with the fortress itself cast in an eerie light similar to Minas Morgul itself. If Minas Morgul is the Witch King's lair, as Gandalf says, then Carn Dum would be his open seat of power...his court and throne...where he threatened the Northern Realms of Middle Earth as a mysterious sorcerer tyrant for centuries after the first war of the ring. Later, when the Gondorian city of Minas Morgul fell and it became the central "headquarters" of the Nazgûl, he twisted the Gondorian architecture into a mockery of its former self, resembling his own kingdom of Angmar in appearance, down to the ghostly glow of his well of foul magic. I love the Witch King, hahaha But I admire your interpretation Andurz, and I think it looks awesome and a great representation of an orc "maintained" fortress, regardless of region into the North. I hope you keep up the excellent work, I look forward to seeing where you take the project next!

ICE made a couple great supplements for Angmar. One supplement was called "Angmar: Land of the Witchking" and the other, much broader supplement was simply called "Angmar" from the mid nineties and is a reprint of the earlier supplement "Empire of the witch-king". While not strictly canon, they have been approved by Christopher Tolkien, so whatever liberties ICE may have taken with the subject matter, could at least conceivably dwell within the canon Middle Earth. I found them to be quite indispensable to me when making my own Angmar army during the heyday of GW's War of the Ring mass battle game. Even for graphics like heraldry. They can be found digitally, and I cannot recommend hunting them down enough.

One thing that you could probably get a lot from for art is to look at the art for Lord of the Rings Online. There's a lot there that is very interesting and well designed. While Angmar is an early area in it (Being one of the original end game areas before several expansions), it's still a very eerie place to explore.
@AndurzTalksHobbies
@AndurzTalksHobbies Год назад
I remember giving that game a shot ages ago, but I tend to bounce off of MMORPGs, but it may be worth trying again as more of a research tool!
@AzraelThanatos
@AzraelThanatos Год назад
@@AndurzTalksHobbies There's also a lot of things with the art for it that you can find, such as if you ever decide for some Rohan terrain, they had a LONG video about how they designed everything for it. Also, other than the player housing (Which is more limits of the customizable parts with limited floorplans), almost every structure, at least in later points is individually done.
