Also if you flip the eldris and insert the butt of the handle into the sheath. It doubles the handle length for more control and comfort for bigger hands.
Hey brother I'm a new subscriber, I didn't know anything about what's going on with your mother, I'm sorry to hear that. One can really see how much u care about her in this video. Rest assured that she knows how u feel and that I'm sure she is proud of the man/son you've become. I hope things even out for you and your family. On a lighter note I love the channel and content man
yes, they have made over 20 of my new videos unacceptable Mosty hunting fishing and guns. that's another reason we haven't had any interesting videos on top of mom's health.
Glad she is doing ok Dakota. No need to apologize for crying either my friend. The saying goes “real men cry” and doing the things you are doing while being with your mom shows that you have true character as a man. Keep on keepin’ on my friend and “Get Out There!”
@@offthecouch1999 it is really a nice little Knife, but were Carbon Steel available, i would go with the Carbon, cause the easyness of Sharpening, but the 12C27 is also hellishly sharp when properly sharpend.
you rock isn't sharp enough, and that steel might not have enough carbon.. I have a firesteel from a Nicholson file from Orion in Australia... that thing throws sparks like crazy.. my only firemaking video on my channel is using that.
@@sargevining i reckon it eas common in the 30s ferro rods we just commong out when kephart wrote his book and he had a mixed bag of emotions silmilar to that we all had of grayl just a few years ago
I watched you on Shawn Dyer's second discussion on Classic Camping and "Bushcraft". I was impressed on your command of the subjectcand ability to discuss your ideas and impressions clearly. Did I hear you say you're interested in doing some 1950s Camping? If so, DM me your address, I've got something to send you.
I put my thumb on top take a piece of char cloth and tear it in half. Put the two pieces together with the frayed edges toward the edge you are striking. I use cotton wash clothes I get at walmart I buy by the bundle. They make good fuzzy edges to catch a spark.
I tried to use a padlock hasp for a couple of years. I had similar results as you. I learned many hasps were plated and/or not the right steel. I switched to a piece of an old file ground smooth. I had immediate great results with char cloth and now use charred punk wood. Try a different type of striker. It might work better.
I've got one from the gather thing that is very similar to what you just said it worked pretty decent, but I just don't have anywhere to store it till i cut it down to fit in my tin. I'll definitely get home tonight and try that. Was gonna spend the weekend out here? But I need to get to work early on monday
You might need fresher char cloth. Moisture really affects the ability for the spark to catch. I would also start out with a larger rock too. I know you can do it. Try striking on the corner of the steel,it may shear off larger pieces of steel that last a little longer than the small sparks. It takes time so stay at it. Good luck. 👍👍
Thanks a ton and that's good advice.I had no idea about the charcloth being affected by that. Usually when I throw a ferrod sparks into it.It just lights right up. But I do keep this in my pocket, which is right against my body, so I reckon it probably is damp
@@offthecouch1999I would try a rock that is maybe twice the size of that one you’re using. Also if you’re keeping your cloth in your pocket you really need to keep the moisture out. I would maybe make some new char cloth and try keeping it in a plastic bag and keep it maybe in your shirt pocket. Sparks from a ferro rod are way hotter than the sparks from flint and steel. You’ll get and once you do you’ll wonder why it took so long. Ha ha ha. My wife thought she’d never get it and was ready to give up,now it’s her go to method. 👍👍
@@offthecouch1999 I could never be mad at you definetely youre a friend for life with no conditions at all please be strong for Mom and Ill keep my faith for you.

Photos and videos or it didn't happen LOL. Cant wait to see what folks come up with, How do I know there's going to be a dude with a pinky nail sized hunk of flint and a piece of steel no bigger than a zipper . lol Can not wait to see you guys at the Bombproof Opossum Gatherhting 2025!!!!
