I cringed a little, when you stuck that magnet base on top of the radio ! Not ever knowing for sure, but I've often wondered, especially with very strong magnets, like the, " Rare Earth " type's, if the strong magnetic field could ever damage a chip, or cause other issues, when placing them in close proximity, one to the other ?
Great informative video. I heard people complaining about big fingers and the band button but did not understand why. ......and now I know. Band Stacking Registers.....I turned mine off. I got tired of cycling through each register to change modes. I now use the mouse to click on the VFO icon and then use it to change modes. Much faster and easier. I wish you could click on the MHZ numbers to change bands. For sending a carrier I use the mouse to change to the RTTY mode and then key the mic. I have the FT-710 and really like it. I am thinking of getting the 10. The 710 has a funky way of addressing the RIT / XIT. Thanks for posting the very informative video. Barry, KU3X
I have owned 2of these. I never liked the way they sounded so I sold them. In the beginning of this video you mentioned adjusting the sound for SSB. Could you please explain how to make it quiet for SSB?
I only operate Cw and I’m looking for a quiet receiver for my garage where I just put a dipole in my attic. I wanted an inexpensive rig with exceptional CW receive. Watching you manipulate these settings is similar to what I’ve done with some other rigs. For the price and offering you’ve convinced me to snag a G90! SUBBED & Cheers de KI7QCF
Interesting video, thanks! I think CW pitch is a personal thing, our hearing differs. For me 550hz is way too low it does not "pop" from the background noise especially at higher speeds with weak signals. I have been running 700hz for the last 30+ years so anything else feels wrong even to my now aging ears. I have also found that turning the AGC off is fine if you are replying to a station and you can set RF gain and volume to taste but when I am on the calling side of a pileup it is terrible, then the AGC fast option is the way to go with RF gain set just high enough to hear the weaker stations. I enjoyed the video, thanks! 73, Rudi de ZS6DX/ZS2M/ZS1BT/V51VE
Why do peaple keep listening the same old things about radios..cant they say something we all dont know.they seem to rhink they are the first to say these things lol..do you research and see if anyone else has said the same
With my FTdx3000, I mounted a momentary pushbutton in a small box and connected it to the Tx Req In pin on the rear panel LINEAR plug. In any mode, I can press that button to get a steady carrier and releasing it returns everything to the previous mode/settings. One can select between 10/20/50/100 watts, via Menu #178. I find 10 or 20 watts is more than adequate to dial in my tuner and/or amplifier. I'm sure the very same thing is possible on the FTdx10.
I learned CW back in 1989 to get my A licence and although never used it much since. But one thing is I have never lost how to send it. It has always stayed in my head even being away from the hobby for 20 years. Only issue is my read speed but in time it will return. My situation will change in September and I will finally be able to get back on HF with my IC705. Great video and all the best 73 de G0LQP
On another issue I have always used straight and would like to get a paddle but not a very cheap one. Do you have any recommendations? I do have a very old British 1940s Semiautomatic Eddystone S689 Bug Key that a friend gave me but its is just not for me.
I know this is an old video. I hope I get a reply. But this is exactly what I need. Question. Will these work to just play my acoustic instrument into a PA (Bose speaker) For live performances? I don’t need to record. Just be on stage, lavalier attached to the instrument and play through the speaker? Any info will be greatly appreciated.
The DELIBERATLY MISSING spectrum display "averaging function" is a real disappointment. Other pricier Yaesu's have it. Also the usb wireless mouse incompatibilities issue is beyond belief. I suspect this radio was never intended to "point & click" the spectrum to change frequencies - only push buttons in the setup menus.
I agree, CW is a lot of fun. I found out after getting my ticket back in 2020, I quickly started learning CW and it has been my main mode since then. I immersed myself in it, I first learned the alphabet, I use a app given to me by a CW Academy instructor called CW_Player 30wpm with 1 second between characters and practice everyday for instant character recogition, between that and listening to QSOs everyday when I get a chance at work via a websdr when I'm not at home, making at least 1 to 10 QSOs a night I am getting better and better. My comfortable speed is 19-20wpm now. My first live QSO I just jumped in, it was terrifying yet exhilarating. After that 1st cw I was hooked. My Clublog statistics over the past 3 years is 95+% CW QSOs. I'm also hooked on QRP operation. I've recently built two QRP Labs QCX minis (20m and 40m) and use those to activate POTA and just have fun. Something about building your rig that makes it fun to use. For Data, I have been having fun with JS8Call. 72, 73 de AI5DD I'm also interested in your class!
THANK YOU !!! for this great tutorial ! I am an old Ham with hearing problems, just now learning CW . I am about to purchase a G90 and believe that it's fine tuning you have demonstrated will allow me to work CW better . 73 a Tennessee Ham .
I simply cant make adventures routes. No mater what I do, I go on highways. I can make a adventures route in the tread app, but when syncronised to my XT2, the routes changed to different settings. Do someone have the same problem?
The XT has traffic and weather also. Riding around Washington, DC, I depend on the traffic automatically routing me around jams. The road conditions and weather radar are on the weather page. Very useful.
the russian transceiver. junk. made for peace in a very military style. very russian - say one thing and do completely different. George Orwell is still valid. and should I tell you that supporting russian economy you are supporting their army? their military crimes and the kremlin?
Thank you for this excellent tutorial. Can you please explain how to enter the exact address of a hotel at the last stop of the day. Many thanks, Steve
