I am a geology professor, author of Geology Underfoot in Southern Idaho, and co-author of Roadside Geology of Idaho. I love exploring the Earth's rocks and landscapes and sharing these stories with others. On this channel, I post a variety of engaging videos to help folks understand geology from a variety of locations in throughout the western US and beyond. Most of my videos are field-based, where geology is learned best, but I also have some longer lecture style videos as well. My videos are not slick productions. They are often raw, off the cuff, and unscripted, but hopefully informative and helpful. As a licensed climbing and whitewater rafting guide, I sometimes sneak these exploits in as well with a bit of geology for good measure. Enjoy and thanks for your viewership!

I'm rewatching your last post. Saw it the morning on my tv but don't have the ability to "lik" your posts there so I'm rewatching it now. LIKE LIKE LIKE! I'm really looking forward to your new stuff from Iceland, etc. So glad we found your channel. 8-)
I like the connection between Icelandic and NA Westcoast tectonics. I can attest the midwest US kicks ass! Business is good and gas is cheap. Will there be a direct temporal relationship between the Atlantic spreading center movement and Farallon subduction/PNW Clockwise rotation/San Andres slip?
I started on the live but was at work, and sadly had to actually work 😂😂 Watching now at home. I look forward to new Random Road Cuts, and further interviews and, basically any video you put up! Safe travels to Iceland. ❤
Greetings from France, team! Thank you for your always informative and rich in content updates,Shawn! Nice to say hi to Amanda Jo ! Hopefully everyone is doing great there! Gratefull to have your updates and keeping In track with the important news, thankfully you are there personally to provide us with all this wonderful content, keep the good work team!
Still pretty cold in Idaho Falls, 63 degrees F this afternoon. I walked to the post office at 10 PM last night and had to keep my jacket zipped, but it is supposed to be warm tomorrow.
that volcanologists seems to be hoping that the next eruption moves over to Eldvorp because there is no infrastructure?.......is it wishful thinking or based on what data?....there was mention of plate boundaries I believe....as you inferred there are no earthquakes in that region so far...
Couldn’t be here for the live. Tomorrow I’ll be hiking the Etna to get my “volcano fix” since we can hike near this Icelandic Volcano lol. Keep up the good work informing us about the events in the Reykjane peninsula….
It would be very special to have some activity while you are there! Plenty to see, regardless. Hope you have a wonderful time. Will be thinking of all of you. Hi to Amanda Jo!!
There is a great shot on one of the drone flights (I see them all so they blend together) of the lava lake side of the the tunnel in from the cone. It also shows the inner walls of the lava lake/levee system. It looks like it plugged on the cone side. The lower flow field gas plumes have subsided, and there are no longer any glow down near the berms so that system of tubes has drained out.
5X5 on the replay, lol (Just recovered my cig lighter from the innards of the clothes dryer after dropping it down the lint trap. Funny how I took 14 screws out, but only had 13 for reassembly🤥)
